Oh yeah those are good numbers!
Your posts read like you’re in control again. Good.
God made you strong both mentally and physically, so make Him proud.
Stay safe. Everyone on here expects you to be running that department someday.
I hate to disappoint you but I’m pretty confident I’m being called a different direction. I see a broken world everywhere I look. America is crazy right now. If the past four years have taught us anything, it’s that adults get pretty set in their ways and are hard to move. Children on the other hand are quite impressionable. I believe that if I’m going to have a positive impact on the world then it’s going to be through teaching/coaching/mentoring. I want to work with high school aged kids.
My current plan is to hang on for another three years so I can get a partial retirement. There are a lot of benefits for me that will come with that. I plan to take care of the two classes I need to qualify for the Transition to Teaching program this spring. Once I’m done with those, I can get hired by a school and then get into the program and obtain my credentials while teaching. That will allow me to make money while getting the education.
That’s the current plan, but I know that something might change between now and then. I’m asking God to show me his plan and his timing instead of trying to dot his all on my own. I have a plan but I’m open to changes including leaving my job early and missing the retirement benefits.
There are a few spots with the police department that would allow me to work with kids, but I think teaching is where I’m meant to be. I can mentor kids during a very small portion of my week or I can be around them full time. I visited an advisor a couple years ago and confirmed my fears about getting into teaching. The only way for me to get my credentials required two years of classroom work and then a semester of student teaching (you know where you pay the university for credit and then go work full time for no pay). I could’ve pulled it off, but it wasn’t worth the stress and negative impact it was going to have on my family. Here we are two to three years later and the Transition to Teaching program has expanded and my Exercise Science degree now qualifies. It’s possible now and I think it’s the direction I’m meant to go.
A few of my friends have changed careers to teaching. None of them regret it.
I’ve been keeping my thoughts out of this log because I just don’t think I have much to offer in helping you, but this sentence made me very happy. For what it’s worth, I would be more than happy with you mentoring my kids.
Read a lot of this guy when I was new to faith, some slightly off the wall stuff but really enjoyed him overall.
Really? Hadn’t kept up with his sermons, thought he’d gone off to Hong Kong? He did a powerful talk on being lukewarm, that resonated with me.
Great idea - libraries are a completely underutilised public service, great way to access thousands of $/£ worth of education and entertainment for free!
Just read this, really fantastic post, such a great thing to be called to. You’ll be great at it, no doubts.
I get what you mean. Some of the things he touches on is not everyone’s cup of tea. What I really like though is will always blatantly encourage people to do their own study and not just take everything he says.
About Francis Chan, yeah, he’s been doing a few things that certainly raises some eyebrows lately. Sure, no one’s perfect, and we don’t know what God is doing (or will do) with his life, just be a little careful with his newer stuff I guess.
Just had a quick look, is it his recent change in terms of transubstantiation? I’d listen to what he has to say but scripture, not church history has the final authority for me, so whilst I see his point (theology should be done in the context of the church i.e. church history, but it isn’t infallible particularly as church history moved more towards Rome!) But would definitely argue he’s wrong, wouldn’t stop me listening to him, but then again I’m quite happy to listen to most view points, but I do try and analyse everything through scripture and not just take on others views by osmosis.
Feel free to carry on in my journal (lurking on a monolith, don’t worry if you don’t want to) if you want to talk further, save clogging up J’s.
Great job man! I pretty much always sub out hip thrusts too, but mostly cos I hate em
Awesome brother. I’ll be cheering for you
Fixed that for you.
Seriously though J, you sound like you are sorting stuff out and have a good direction in which to head. I am glad for you.
It’s all a matter of perspective. Aside from a school shooter, my police job experiences will always be worse than a teaching experience.

Good session but I fear it needs more cardio because I wasn’t gasping for air or dying. Time was 43 minutes. This was my own creation because the scripted workout needed a rower and space for push presses.
Love the new title J
needs more cardio
Said no-one sane, ever.
I really admire your recent mindset change by the way. It takes real mental strength to be so honest with yourself in your goal setting.
There is a lot to be said for being specific and keeping your goals simple. It’s really good to see you finally fixing onto what you really need. I think you may find that after a short time getting used to these sessions. You will be surprised at the improvements you make.
20 minutes on the elliptical.
I think I’m going to switch to HIIB Volume 2. Volume 1 is chest/back, legs push, shoulders, legs pull, repeat. Volume 2 is chest/back, legs, shoulders, repeat and has more abs and arms. I don’t want to hit legs twice a week with a four day split. I’m also not getting sore in the right places. Push day hits my hams and glutes and pull day hits the same muscles. I’m just built to be posterior dominant so I use those muscles a lot. Tomorrow will be Day 1 with chest/back.
