Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

I guess one of the perks of where I live is that we basically don’t have Fall. Goes straight from Summer to buried in snow, meaning no leaf raking.

Nice day J, when spring shows, the days are so much better.
EDIT: btw I hate yard work too, my wife does the most too.

I just figure that the yard doesn’t pay any attention to me, so why the crap should I pay any attention to it?

What if the falling leaves are its way of trying to catch your attention? Checkmate.

I live in a condo with a small yard intentionally designed not to have any leaf-producing fauna. Un-checkmate.

I absolutely hated yard work growing up, but now, I love it. Very cathartic for me.

Yeah we get the double whammy. Some of ours drop first thing in the fall and some hold the leaves until the bids arrive and then drop in the spring.

3.2.20 Rest Day

It’s an odd feeling, but I have nothing planned today. Initially, I thought I’d keep doing my physical therapy on Mondays but I took care of that yesterday so I’m good for a few days.

I think most men hate yard work and are generally happy sitting and resting. My wife literally doesn’t sit still any day until the kids are in bed. Living in a city we only have a small yard but here still plenty to do. I mow the grass (what little there is) and help with major jobs like pruning tree limbs or digging holes to plant new plants but the wife does the rest.
The funny thing is I will spend hours washing and polishing a car or motorbike but more than 10 mins of yard work is a pain.

I don’t mind yard work, but I don’t go out of my way to do it.

DEADLIFT

295 x 8 x 3 sets

CLEAN PULL
235 x 5 x 3 sets

Short and horrible. I’m feeling better and getting over this sinus infection but it was definitely a factor today. My HR was up and I was breathing heavily during my entire rest period. I set my timer for 80 seconds and I’m usually ready to go after 60 seconds. Not today. I’m still breathing hard and it’s been several minutes since my last set. Glad that’s over and I’m seriously considering doing 5x8 on deads and three sets on everything else Friday. Five sets of each sounds terrible.

I almost put this in the Things That Make You Happy thread… I got to charge my own cases today. They’re all misdemeanor so they went to Municipal Court which is way easier than District Court. I’ll be issuing four or five warrants tomorrow (still waiting on one victim to commit to prosecution). :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve been focusing on burglary to automobile cases and following up on the use of the victim’s credit cards. If they go to a business with a good camera then i get a good picture of their face. I send that out to every cop in the area asking for help. If someone identifies them then I can charge them with unlawful use of a financial card.

It’s like the easiest go straight to jail case I’ve found because it requires no witnesses.

Heh, I like that phrasing “commit to prosecution”. As in, you know, I have only been sorta half-assing my own prosecution, because I am kind of lazy, just not really into it. Now I am fully committed to it. Bring on the courts.

Actually, it’s worse than that. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to press charges. A career criminal stole his wallet and went shopping with his bank card, but he’s not sure if he wants to go to court over it. I spent time getting video, identifying the guy, and then presented the case. I also spent time filling out redundant paperwork and all he has to do is sign it to finish things up.

He wondered if the thief was an adult. He wondered if he would have to go to court. He thought pressing charges would create a bunch of paperwork.

Well, I’ve already done that. I have a great case against a career criminal who has committed 10 times the crimes for which he’s been caught, but we’re not sure if we want to do anything about it. I can’t believe how naive people are in 2020.

He finally agreed to sign the damn piece of paper.

Well, on the flip side, I’m sure the credit card company just wiped the charges clean and reimbursed the fraudulent activity. So in his books, all was square. If he THEN had to open up a new can of worms, fill out a bunch of paperwork, go to court and plea his case…well…I may not want to be part of that either! Just a signature though? You got it.

But considering the amount of friggin’ work I had to put in for a minor US speeding ticket, I wouldn’t be surprised if you made him fill out hours worth of paperwork and demanded his presence at a court reading! Yes, I’m going to be bitter about that for awhile…

At least you got him to sign. I can imagine how frustrating that would have been though.

The problem is that everyone views this from the selfish angle. To each victim, it is a minor inconvenience to get new cards and have the credit card company reimburse your money. I see people who make a full-time living out of doing this. Oh, they’re also unemployed and on disability so they get free money from the government on top of everything they steal. If every victim brushes it off then essentially what they’re doing becomes legal. Why the hell should I go to work every day when these people have everything I have and more by doing nothing?

This is the exact reason we have a problem with property crimes. No one seems to think it’s a big deal anymore.

Well, today was interrupted by work. I took my turn in plain clothes to try to play the surveillance role for our team. It wasn’t exactly a successful day, but it prevented me from sneaking off to the gym for my lunch break.

I can’t really afford to miss a day of training since it consists of short days (on work days) and long days (on days off). I’m considering a two a day for tomorrow - back and then legs.

I’m also considering driving an hour to the town to the northwest of here to look at a truck. It turns out that finding my truck is harder than I thought. The biggest problem is finding a 2WD. Everything is 4WD. That’s cool and all but it’s completely unnecessary here and it makes most of the minor repairs more expensive.

So here’s my wish list:

  • 2WD
  • 150,000 miles or less
  • leather interior
  • no rust or body damage
  • less than or equal to $8000
  • red, blue, then black or silver, and lastly white in color

And the truck I found is red, 2WD, has leather, no rust or body damage, has 105,000 miles, and is currently $8300. So close…

My wish list doesn’t seem ridiculous but my search is proving to be difficult. It’s like I’m searching for the unicorn of used, cheap trucks and I might’ve found it.

I do this sometimes to get the weekly work in. I don’t know if it makes a difference physiologically, but it helps me psychologically to not fall off the wagon and try to find a new program
