Yeah your hammering your entire posterior chain with every lift. My back hurts just looking at that list. Feel better man. That’s a rough session dude!
Good luck with the truck. I’d love a truck, and I’ve considered getting one when I pay off my Forester. Except I think I’ll just enjoy having a paid off car for a while. I can get a truck when I need to replace the forester.
I tend to get carried away. Deadlifts are for deadlift. Squats are to strengthen my legs and help with deadlift. Clean pulls are for explosiveness and traps!
This is what happens when you modify a strength program. As written, SGSS has a horizontal push and pull, a vertical push and pull, and one exercise of your choice. It’s an upper/lower split instead of push/pull.
I felt like most of my gains went to my legs when I ran the program in 2018. I don’t want that so I modified it. The problem is that I want my deadlift to come back so I’m hitting legs for that and trying to be a bodybuilder with my upper body.
I forgot how draining it is to do five sets of squats and deads. There was nothing left for back day.
My two options are to spread this out to a P/P/L or go back to upper/lower and reduce the upper body work. ![]()
This is why I don’t have a truck yet. I’m not supposed to finance It. It wasn’t meant to be. Someone bought the truck yesterday.
I should really wait until we’re debt free and save the money to buy something outright, but that’s going to take awhile.
Having minimal bills is such a freeing feeling. We’re working towards having our only real payment be the house. Once we’re there (about 15 months) it’ll be super easy to stockpile savings. We’re a bit behind other peers our age in terms of retirement planning. We had to liquidate all of our savings and IRAs when my daughter got really sick and we weren’t insured at the time. Around $100k of medical bills. Then the whole cancer thing. Feel like we’re finally above water though.
Holy crap man. I feel for you. Thank God that’s behind you
For sure. Ready to enjoy some financially free years. Once we’re done we’ll be able to live comfortably on about 25% of our take home. Can’t wait! Time to play catch-up
I think I may have settled on P/P/L. I had already decided to do squats and deads at home on work days. It’s not ideal because I don’t like training after work, but it’s better than doing super quiet deadlifts at the work gym. If I don’t do legs then I’ll have plenty of energy for the higher volume upper body sessions.
Buns, bread, and beer certainly blow me up. But I’m all in when it comes to carbs and colds. I went through a box of doughnuts more than once last week when I was fighting off a post-travel something-or-other.
Do it. I’ve fallen in love with not crushing myself. This structure keeps you from doing just that. The system saves you, from you.

Nope. Nothing in the tank. Did like 6 regular and 4 or 5 with my hands on the bench. The eight sets of pressing apparently wore me out.

26 minutes. I did some PT between the warm up and jogging. This definitely felt like more than 26 minutes. I’m still not certain on the exercises and reps moving forward. I’m going to do my back work again tomorrow and call it the end of week one. Today’s shoulder work felt good but I’m still drawn to an actual pressing exercise so I can load it up. On the other hand, I don’t need to do three pressing exercises per session. I probably ought to keep it the way it is.

The weather is ridiculously nice so we’re on a family walk to the park.
Jealous. Once we’re done today I’ll have worked 45 hours on just Fri/Sat/Sun. Enjoy the nice day man
We are too!
Enjoy!
Was just out running around with the kids, now they’re taking a quick nap, and gonna hit another playground before picking my wife up from work. Beautiful day out, shorts and a t shirt.
Life is strange. Today was one of the fullest days I’ve lived in awhile, but it wasn’t easy. It was awesome, but didn’t come natural.
I hit the gym, went to the park with the wife and kids, and then came home. My wife decided to work on the yard a bit. I absolutely hate yard work. I decided to go outside and hang with her. She was mostly burning one of several piles of tree limbs. We live in the city so we either have to haul our stuff away or burn it in a fire pit. We’re using the fire pit.
I decided to rake leaves and my wife bagged them for me. After that, the kids came out and joined us. They played on the swing set and we continued to burn things. I ran to the store and bought hot dogs and jalapeno cheddar brats. We used sticks to cook them on the fire and then played with a frisbee til dark.
I had three brats for dinner and I’m on my 6th ish beer. I’m soft. Any time my wife wants to relax, I’m on board. This is supposed to be the last splurge til spring break.
The reason I said life is strange is that my first inclination is to sit on my ass instead of going outside and being productive. I don’t know why I hate yard work, but I’m glad my wife doesn’t. It’s a lot easier to be out there with her.
I’m worn out, but happy. Time to watch Hunters on Prime.
Looks at the calendar
Say what?
My best days are where we run the kids ragged and just do things. I love a good lazy day from time to time, but I don’t feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment unless I work for it. Such is life, my man. Family is everything.
Spring cleaning!
They’re from the fall…but it’s hard to tell when the trees are done dropping their leaves.
I just ignore the leaves as long as possible.
