I want to make a joke about him being an officer of the law but you wrote it with a capital C…
Once again, that would suck. If he did miss a tear then I have to decide what to do about it. Everything I’ve read about rotator cuff tears seems to say that physical therapy and surgery have about the same outcome. I’m definitely not trying to have another operation to make it three years in a row.
And my MRI is on the 20th.
That’s awesome news dude! Hope you can save some cash by doing it this year!
I’ll have to disagree with you on that. I’ve had 3 RC surgeries and based on all my discussions with the surgeons and the PTs. Surgery is necessary to repair the tendon.
As I mentioned before, a friend of mine had RC surgery but never fully recovered. I had my surgery after him and fully recovered. I told him to go see my surgeon and they found an additional tear in a tendon on the back of the shoulder that the first surgeon missed.
I truly hope this is not the case for you but as you’ve states your PT seems to be at a loss.
Physical therapy in the context of subjects who have not had any prior surgery will probably have the same outcome compared to surgery, yes. I’m just not too sure if it still holds true for someone who’s already had surgery
Wouldn’t say absolutely necessary for each case. It really depends on which tendons are damaged and to what degree the damage is. Other factors to consider are also willingness to stick to rehab, which J has covered

Half a workout.
Warm up by doing all the PT stuff I could do in my work gym.
HIGH INCLINE DB PRESS
55 x 12 x 3 sets
LAT PULL DOWN
170 x 12 x 3 sets
3 WAY DB RAISE
15s x 10 ea x 2 sets
BARBELL CURL
65 x 15, 12
Took 19 minutes but closer to 30 with the PT exercises. I’ll do deadlifts and RFESS tonight at home. I didn’t want to change during work and they don’t like it when you make noise in the gym during the week which makes deadlifts tough.
Please tell me you don’t go to PLANET FITNESS?
Nah, it’s a gym that our Chief outfitted for City employees. It’s on the 4th Floor. The walls between the gym and the office space are paper thin and there are court rooms below it. Deadlifts are tricky during the week.
I even caught their attention once by doing DB snatch grip high pulls with my good arm after my surgery. Apparently I was shaking the walls to a Deputy Chief’s office. I figured out that I was able to shake the floor with the movement. That one never occurred to me.
DEADLIFT

ELLIPTICAL

Legs sore from RFESS - specifically my hamstrings. RDLs will replace high pulls but I’m not pushing the weight. Those will cripple me if I don’t ease into them.
My glutes are destroyed from light RFESS like brace-the-wall-to-shit destroyed. Ugh.
I don’t really get full ROM on any leg movement in terms of training every movement they do. I feel that my above parallel squats hit my quads and top end hip extension. Deadlifts hit hip extension even better. And RFESS hit the deep portion of a squat but don’t really touch hip extension.
I think the three movements combine to make a simple and complete leg program (including unilateral work).
Great news with the MRI J, I hope they’ll figure out what’s been bugging you.
Despite your shoulder you’re killing it, Well done J.

Snow day! The wife and the kids got to stay home for the day. Unfortunately, I planned to be home alone so I worked from 8-12:30 and needed to work out. I was only home for a couple hours, but we all played in the snow together during that time. I even have to work another hour tonight for a neighborhood association meeting.

As you can see, the order of this was a bit different. I had to use what was available. I went to a different branch of the gym and it has less squat racks and platforms.
It’s so pathetic that a neighborhood association meeting needs a police officer in attendance.
However, I’m the president of mine, and I totally get it.
Hey, it’s part of my new job and I’m happy to go. They are actually the reason my position exists. Our Department could probably do without my position but it’s a great job and I’m happy we have it. Council Members and community people complain to the Chief a lot. We’re “their” officer so they come to us first. If they don’t have their own personal officer then they complain about that. They’re my job security.
I make my own schedule (it’s loosely set at 0800-1800). I have Sat, Sun, Mon off. And I get to d whatever I want. Some people use that to their advantage and do nothing. I’m choosing to go after our repeat theft offenders. The stores have great video. If I can ID the suspects then they can be charged. If I don’t do is then no one will and they get away with it. The cases with “unknown suspect” don’t even get assigned to a detective so no one looks at them.
Hope you had a good time with the snow day. Those are some of my favorite memories with my kids. My work follows the schools so if they close I’m off too. Made for some fund days over the years. Looks like your pushing hard towards that 500 goal… Any improvement in the shoulder ROM and pain?
I think I have a tiny bit of improvement. There’s lots of improvement after I do my PT stuff but that goes away. MRI is Friday.
