Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

Glad to hear the shoulder is feeling pretty good! I’m sure your going nuts not being able to use that arm. To make the time go faster, maybe develop some sort of short term goal. Something you can work towards for the next six weeks or so. Just food for thought.

Really curious about your thoughts on these

Technically speaking, did the two gentlemen do anything wrong?

@Frank_C, @mortdk

I don’t really like watching that stuff. The media sensationalizes things and leaves information out to boost ratings.

Cell phone videos usually don’t contain the whole encounter - again, to skew the situation to make us look bad.

In the top video, the guy should’ve given his ID. I guarantee you that every state is like mine - you must present ID if officer has reasonable suspicion a crime is being committed. Reasonable suspicion is not proof; the threshold is low. In this case, it sounds like there was a pet violation. That’s enough to ID the guy. I didn’t watch past the 1:08 mark. Nothing would have happened if he would’ve shown ID, but people want to argue like it’s court instead of doing what they’re told.

In the bottom video, I only watched 1:21. Suspicious behavior is good enough to ask for ID. The guy said he lived and worked there but he didn’t prove it. Guess what - people lie.

I gathered that he got Tased. He wasn’t using the gripper as a weapon so it was a leap to say it was a weapon to justify the Taser. But, again, if the idiot would’ve complied with orders to sit down then nothing would’ve happened.

You notice the theme with complaints against police? The situation always escalates after citizens ignore commands and disobey. If people would just listen then a lot of bad things wouldn’t happen.

For me it all goes back to a simple principle… if someone is put in a place of authority over you, you need to respect that. Our society as a whole doesn’t embrace this thinking though. Youth are taught to question everything, and hold fast to the idea that what’s right for you might not be right for them.

I got into a debate with one of my best friends (PHD Philosophy professor in LA). He was saying that the fact that you parent a child doesn’t qualify you to set boundary’s for that human being. I told him that because I said so was an acceptable parental response in my house lol.

We’re always going to have people in authority over us that we disagree with. There’s a time and place for escalation and protest, but pick and choose wisely. If your gonna stir the pot you can’t complain about getting burned on occasion.

Oh sorry J. I agree that it could be skewed and doesnt always show the entire thing. Yeah, I really couldn’t understand why they didn’t just show an ID, specially for the college guy cleaning around his dorm. Apparently, some say that once you show an ID, they can tag you in their system as an offender, and next time you get apprehended, you always show up as a repeat offender from there on. Not really sure how true and what that would be the implications of that, that’s why I was curious. Just wanted to see it from another perspective so I’m not a misinformed douche lol.

You have to actually be arrested and charged for any type of offender tag. There’s a process that includes documentation for just about everything. Telling an officer your name is not enough for anything like that.

If people would spend more time learning their local laws and procedures than they do pretending to be experts then this stuff wouldn’t be so confusing.

I see. Got it! Thanks, officer. I’m less of a misinformed douche now. Haha

In my country it’s a violation if you don’t tell the officer who you are.
We have the same videos here and as J says, it always starts with somebody trying to argue against the officer. Just do what he says and there wouldn’t have been a video to show.

And Jack is right about the youth being told to question everything. Somebody should learn them NOT to question an authority.
“because I say so” is such a good argument as a parent, it’s not for debate.

Ooops. I don’t know why I was thinking you were in the US. Haha

LEG PRESS CALVES (1.5 REPS)
150 x 15 x 3 sets

@jackolee, I might have thought of a couple goals today - 40 cm bicep and calves. My left arm was 38.5 and calves are within 1 cm as of my T-Nation check-in.

I don’t train calves often because I don’t enjoy it. I doubt I do any crazy techniques. I might just try 350 Sets. For my left arm, I’ll just make sure to train it directly more often.

Haven’t posted much lately but I’m glad the surgery went well!

I had a similar one (torn shoulder labrum) just over a year ago, and had this too:

Well, actually no (if I’m remembering what suprascapular means), mine was in my neck. Did you have to pull yours out on your own? My doc just told me to take it out after about 48 hours. It was in a vein in my neck and when I tried taking it out, it got stuck and required a decent tug to get it out. Ended up being several inches in there. Kinda freaky honestly.

I always wonder how they determine who gets what meds. I got hydrocodone for mine, which seems to maybe be slightly less intense than other opioids, and others I know who have had, say, their wisdom teeth removed, get hydrocodone, OxyContin, etc. Just wonder why the difference and if it matters. I took one pill the day after my surgery, not for pain, just thinking it would maybe prevent future pain, and after realizing I reall enjoyed the feeling I got, didn’t take anymore. Didn’t seem worth it.

Taking my arm out of the sling and just letting it hang was the BEST feeling ever, haha.

Little late to the party, but oh well. Hope the training continues to go well, and good luck on the recovery!

No and I’m glad. Yours sounds unpleasant.

I usually get hydrocodone. This time I have percoset 10s. They gave me a 7 day supply and then a prescription of Norco 5s. I asked what the difference was and apparently it’s all the same stuff. The number at the end indicates the amount of the active drug.

I had my post-op appointment today and found out that there was a typo on my instructions. I only have to wear the sling for six weeks instead of eight!

6.15.19

Woke at 209.4 lbs.

I’m thinking about lazy cardio (steady state, low intensity) this morning and how to eat for the day. I’ve switched to lifting MWF and I’ve decided to do my cardio on TThSa.

I’ve been watching Paul Carter’s podcast and episode two is about keto and carbs. He asks Scott to treat him like a client and gives him his goals and split.

  • get shredded
  • emphasize back and legs
  • train 4xweek with PPL split so one workout is done twice while the others are done 1xweek

Scott tells him to increase carbs on back and leg days - like 350g. Keep them closer to maintenance on the other training days and go low on non training days - like 130g or less.

(Funny thing is I’m answering my own question as I write this out)

I’m not sure how to use this because I technically have six training days per week. But as I wrote that out I realized the approach keeps carbs at maintenance when training things that aren’t a priority. Boost carbs when you train your point of emphasis. And keep them scarce on rest day.

I guess for me this means high carbs MWF, low carbs on rest day, maintenance or possibly low on cardio only days. My cardio is treadmill walking and bike interval workouts so it’s fairly low in intensity.

My goal right now is maintenance of everything I have. It’d be cool if I could add a tiny bit of size to my left arm and calves just so I have a training purpose. I’m also trying to learn to eat without tracking everything - you know, like a normal human.

I’m going to loosely try this carb manipulation and see how it works out.

I think this is impossible, whenever I try at least I end up eating to much.

You learn portion sizes, but you have to stay focused. Carb restriction also gives you a safety net, or larger margin of error.

You do need to be careful fat consumption doesn’t spike when going low carb.

Are you sure? Have you seen what normal humans look like?

Mort, I’m learning that I still need to measure or at least use the same containers so my portion sizes are consistent. I aim for about 600 cals per meal. With those things guiding me, I think I’m getting better. I’ve made it a week without using MFP and my weight has been 209 every day.

Ok, I’m trying to be like @IronOne.

Why do you do movements like these? I’m not saying they’re wrong, or that I think they’re wrong, I’m just wondering. Do you do them for ab strength, or hypertrophy? I imagine you’re lean enough that you can justify doing ab movements for hypertrophy - most wouldn’t be able to see their results due to body fat, minus pro strongmen.
