Training partners make everything better. I got one of my old coaches back into lifting (I’m 20, he’s 27) this past spring and he’s already surpassing me on every lift. Last week he benched an even 400lbs (5lbs under his lifetime PR) and squatted 405x6 (he squatted 510lbs when he was 18). I’m getting him into sumo deadlifts, and I know it’s only a matter of time before he pulls like 550 or something. Ridiculous.
Me and him have got a lot in common and he’s a really nice guy, so it doesn’t bother me that he’s infinitely stronger than I am. Seeing him pushing that kind of weight motivates me to stop being a little bitch and lift harder. It’s crazy how simply doing an activity with someone else can boost your performance
What are you getting? I’ve been wanting to get a tattoo for a few years now but I know nothing about them
I’ve been working on an American flag. It’s all black and gray except it will have a blue stripe like The Thin Blue Line flag. Tomorrow is my third session; the artist has been doing short sessions and it’s been healing really fast.
It starts on my trap/delt and stops just above my elbow. If we finish tomorrow then I’ll post pics.
I do not have a tatoo, but if, I’m going to see Colin Dale, his a good friend of my Kiwi friend.
He does some really freaking awesome tatoo’s.
Take a look at his gallery http://www.skinandbone.dk/
TN says I have put the link in your log once, hope you don’t mind it’s going here again.
@Frank_C how did you even get to do the running. that was awesome. I don’t know if I’m looking forward to this program the way you describes it.
It’s not a bad program; yesterday was a bad day. I didn’t feel good when I started.
There was an article on here awhile back about the best time of day to lift. A research study tested grip strength every hour of the day and found that strength was at its peak 3 hrs and 11 hrs after waking up. The waking up part was done naturally without an alarm clock. It has to do with cortisol levels and some other stuff that I don’t fully understand.
CT checked these results against his own grip strength and found that he peaked at 2 and 10 hours after waking.
I have found that I feel pretty good around 11 in the morning. If that’s my 3 hour mark then 7pm would be my other peak time. I definitely know that 5pm is not a good time for me. I always feel tired and it’s a struggle to get going. Yesterday was no different.
I slept like crap again. I kept falling asleep in ways that hurt my shoulder so it’d wake me up. It got to the point where it just hurt for awhile and kept me awake.
My hip is nice and achy this morning. The muscles around it are angry too. It’s a good day for some tissue work at the chiropractor.
I think there is something wrong in my hip (duh). The pain is an obvious sign but I think the muscles might be doing one of two things that is resulting in all the tightness.
they’re compensating for something
they’re guarding an injury and trying to prevent me from making it worse
Well let me learn ya somethin’ -
If you’re gonna get a tattoo, don’t get wasted in a 3rd world country and expect A.) to make a good decision, or B.) for them to hesitate…
I have a bunch of tattoos - eventually I will but it’s not even something I think about anymore, it’s kind of hilarious at this point, and all of my tattoos are covered when I wear a t shirt so no biggie. My friend still claims it was his idea but I don’t think either of us remember. He got a picture of Mickey Mouse on his thigh pointing at his balls with a scared expression, and it looks worse than mine if thats even possible.
That’s kind of great news, next up is you to not start squatting and deadlifting 400+ pounds because you feel good.
I really hope you’ll get over it without getting under the knife again.
Well, to clarify, they muscle tightness and pain I experience are two different things. The muscle tightness is better for now but that doesn’t mean anything for the pain I’ve been experiencing. I’m honestly not seeing any outcome that doesn’t involve me going back under get knife.
Time will tell though. I’m not ready to give up on this journey to 260 lbs so I’m not ready for surgery again. It’s going to have to wait.
Woke at 243.4 lbs. My two year old son was 33.8 lbs.
I don’t feel particularly energetic today but I’ll try to get my arse to the gym around my normal time. Hell, it’s upper body day and I’m not running. What’s not to like about that session?
Rack pulls take way more out of me than trap bar deads. I like it.
Here’s where the tattoo stands this morning. I’m going back (again) in two weeks to touch it up and finish.
Thanks, Mort! I think it’s mostly done. He might add some more blue next time. It’ll be healed up and we’ll be able to see how everything looks without the swelling and touch it up.

Rest Day. I anticipate that my weight will drop at some point today as I’ve had a bit of a problem with my digestion. My stomach is all bloated and it feels kind of crappy (no pun intended). I’m pretty sure I have a good sit-down trip to the bathroom in my near future…at least I hope I do.
