Just Another Log

I’m probably going to play with SGSS a bit more. I’m not going to run the whole program, but I really liked alternating between three and five sets at a given weight. The 5x8 day was a beast by week three, but only having to do three sets with 5-10 more pounds the next workout made it very manageable.

Why not the Nutty’s beginner routine?

Is the idea ramping to a topset of 10 or is there several sets across?

The idea is to ramp up to top 1-2 sets.

Doesn’t like the idea of double progression and staying with the same weight for weeks lol.

Honestly, even though it works great for beginners (and everyone really), I get why many won’t do this. I think it’s hard for people to wrap their heads around bar speed and feel. Especially those who are weaker and newer lifters.

For sure man! I think even for myself there’s no way mentally I would have been able to handle double progression in the beginning.

I think though if you are a lifter that understands the long game and have no ego double progression would last a long time. But I do think the linear/block periodization is better for most lifters mentally. Keeps things fresh. Double progression can get boring as fuck haha. Luckily for me boring usually equals results lol.

I’m actually finding double progression to be more enjoyable than linear/block periodization for some reason. I’ve never done D.P. before and it seems more fun somehow.

Your lunges and split squats killed me the first time though!

I like the SGSS approach of 3x8, 5x8, add weight, 3x8, 5x8.

By dropping back to three sets after adding weight, it never crosses into the feeling of more, more, more for me.
