Just a Beer Light to Guide Us...

Good luck to you this weekend.

Go whip some ass!

Today was our Provincial Equipped Championships.

Before I get into the actual meet, I’ll review a bit of the AGM from Friday evening. Every two years we have elections for our executive. This year our President decided to step down. I and our current vp ran for the vacant position. I was elected as the current president and our vice president’s vacancy was occupied by another woman from the Ottawa region. While there have been several women president’s over the years, this, I believe is the first time both top positions have been held by women.

There have been a lot of changes and exciting new initiatives. I have been involved in the running of our association for 4 years primarly with our provincial website and media.

I wasn’t confident on the outcome of the actual meet because I was so focused on the agm and the presidency. Because I am more than qualified for both equipped and unequipped, I was entertaining the idea of competing unequipped just to get the total and save the aggravation. Because I was elected president, I decided I should compete equipped in our equipped championships as I thought it would be inappropriate to treat it lightly in that position.

I’m glad I did because, although it wasn’t my best total, it was by second best meet by wilks. I weighed in at a crazy 54.1kg (119lbs) the lightest I’ve ever competed at. I dropped all my openers because I really didn’t know how I’d do.

I ended up with:

Squat

120

127.5

135 called on depth

Bench

67.5

72.5

75 didn’t come up

Deadlift

147.5

152.5

157.5 only to my knees

Total 352.5 wilks 426.1

I was hoping for an elite total which is 365 at the 57kg weight class. Because I was so light, I fell short of it but it’s been a long time since I got in six lifts. Because I’m competing equipped at nationals, I’m glad I sucked it up and ended up with a decent total.

Congratulations on both accounts!

That is crazy light weight for you to compete. Yet you are STRONG!

Video coming? I hope.

Congrats Madam President!

Sorry no video. Frank couldn’t coach me since he was lifting in flight B. I was able to do my own stuff with a bit of help from team members but I didn’t get video. Here’s a picture though  I think it’s my first squat

Argh!

How did frank do? I am assuming that you’ll both be going to nationals?

Frank didn’t get his best total but he set a national bench record. He benched 180.5kg. It was sloooow. One more hair on the bar and it’s wouldn’t have happened. He squatted unequipped and only did two deadlifts. He tweaked his knee.

We’ll both be at nationals. Our club is hosting it this year and now that I’m president, I have to be there as that is when we have our national agm.

We were back in the basement today. I kept it very light just to get the blood moving

Squat
bar-10
135-5
145-5
155-3x5

Bench
bar-10
65-10
85-10
95-10

That’s it.

Yesterday I was on my back most of the day. I got up and updated our website, got access to our executive committee forums, did some write ups on various winners and then pretty much passed out for the rest of the day. We watched tv and I think I napped off and on for about 4 hours. Every meet knocks me for a six.

More interesting is an article that was written on one of the competitors from the meet, Kelly Branton. He chose to lift unequipped in the equipped provincials (typically a number of people do). He squatted 365 kg (806lbs). It’s a great article and includes a video of the squat. It’s a feel good piece. One of the other lifters mentioned, Tim Ekert, won the Ontario best male lifter for 2013 and was nominated by my husband. Tim is a blind lifter who has represented Canada many times.

Just stopped by to say great job, J. You are inspirational.

And a chick that does Zercher squats? Awesomely awesome!

Speaking of Z’s, I don’t know if it will help you or not but when I started hand-to-hand interlocking my fingers I got much “tighter” and subsequently stronger on my lifts.[/quote]

That’s a good tip. I’m going to give it a try next time I zercher. I’m not sure when that will be. I’m feeling an unfortunate pulling in my left shoulder that is worsened by zerchers and deadlifts.

Congratulations on a great meet and on the election as well.

Great job in the meet, and congrats Madam President!

We’re still in a deload post-meet week.

Bench
bar-10
65-5
85-5
95-5
100-5
105-5
110-3

Squat
bar-10
135-5
145-5
155-5
165-5
175-5

That’s all.

Congrats! Do you get a signet-ring, or is that just for royalty?

Today I was super unmotivated. I spent most of the day futzing around with an electronic expense reimbursement form I’m creating for our provincial website. They are very picky and time-consuming. I have almost everything in e-format though which is nice.

Despite complete lack of motivation, I had some awesome home made chilli made with coffee, black beans and cocoa and garlic bread and it fired me right up.

Deadlift

135-2x5

225-2x3

245-9

225-2x3

Front squat

95-5

105-5

115-5

125-5

135-3

squat

125-15

It doesn’t look like much but it felt pretty good.

No signet ring but the official headquarters of our organization becomes the city in which the president resides.

There aren’t any perks to the job. It’s a lot of work and a target on your back as the whipping boy (girl) for everything everyone doesn’t like about the organization. I’m pretty sure that’s the way it is everywhere though.

Congrats on the meet.

Ive been meaning to also mention… I really really love our new hair color, goes so much better with your skin tone IMO.

I was in a rush to get home today because we were training and then I had some admin stuff to take care of. We’d had more snow last night and when I got out of my car at home, I wasn’t paying attention and I slipped on some ice and smashed my face into the corner of the car. It hurt like crazy. I’m going to look like I was in a bar fight tomorrow at work.

Anyway…

We trained and it was pretty good

Squat
bar-2x10
135-5
165-3
195-3
205-4x3 belt

Bench
bar-10
65-5
95-5
105-3x5

BO BB rows
95-10
105-5
115-5
125-5
135-5
145-3

push ups
3x20

Ouch, I was dreading the worst when you started with your ice slipping story, good thing you do not need your face to lift
Just be careful, you have your people to think about now.
