Just a Beer Light to Guide Us...

I thought I would venture back over here again and track my training as it leads up to provincials. I just started the second week of my cycle.

A quick update, for the last several years I’ve been competing at 60kg, then at 63 when our weight classes changed. I never got close to the top of 63 so, last September I cut to 57kg over 3 1/2 weeks. I dropped 12lbs. I’ve maintained it since then typically sitting between 123 and 124.

I did my first raw meet in years and went 4 for 9 but had a blast.

I’m still trying to get a feel for where I am now in gear after cutting weight. I’ve also decided to keep geared training to a minimum because, in the past I’ve ended up grinding myself down particularly with heavy squats. They kill my shoulders.

This was yesterday’s training:

I’m doing moderately well. My squat numbers are comparable to where they were before I cut weight so I’m pretty happy. Yesterday I trained in Franks new suit which is huge on me but it works really well. I’ve ordered my own suit in a 32 but don’t know when I’ll see it. Our Canadian dealer is seeing if he can get Titan to expedite it for me.

You are one squatting beast.

Very happy to see you here!

I am just fascinated by the fact that you pretty much maintained your strength but at a lower body weight. Do you plan to compete at 57 permanently? 12 pounds is a pretty significant cut at your size. And when is provincials? Any specific goals this time around?

Good luck getting your suit. It always seems to take forever to get PLing gear.

Hot Damn!

I have nothing to offer but you sure are a BEAST!! Love it!

Nice !

This is week two in the bench shirt and it was a bit smoother than last week. Last week wasn’t bad but it was a bit stuttery and tentative

That’s it. Then we walked the dog in the freaking cold (-9C with -15 wind chill). The dog doesn’t care though.

On another note, since I’ve cut weight I’ve had several people comment on my size. Most recently, I had a client breakfast this morning. It was for one of our builders and we were there with all the other trades. One of the guys we were sitting with made a weird comment about what I’d eaten. I didn’t say anything but the woman I was with commented on the way home that she thought he was out of line. Why do people think it’s okay to comment on your weight when you’re slim. They wouldn’t dare say anything if I were overweight. Dinks. It’s not complimentary, it’s inappropriate from a strange man and never a good thing.

Hey, thanks for the nice welcome back.

I haven’t kept all my strength but it seems like I’ve kept a good percentage of it. Whether I’ll compete permanently at 57 remains to be seen. We’ll see how things go at the next couple of meets.

Provincials is January 18 and my goals are 1.) total 2.) I’m still chasing an elite total. At 57 I’d need 365. If I squat 135, bench 72.5 and pull 157.5, that would get me there. Mostly I’d just like a solid total.

Happy to see you here again- war Beanie!!

those are some giant squats nice work

And I can’t stand when people comment on what I am eating when I am actually trying to eat. In one ear and out the other isn’t always that easy to do.

On a happier note, what kind of dog do you have? I’m a bit dog crazy.

Attached is a picture of my dog Dani. She is a shepherd mastiff mix. This was about 9 months ago so she’s filled out a bit. I just like this picture. She’s about 3 year’s old now. We got her last December from a couple who just had a baby and couldn’t take care of her as well. She needs a lot of exercise.

Today my weight bottomed out at 121. I’m not sure why. Maybe it was the super large mulled wine I had last night in the bath tub. It was delicious though.

I tore my hand again. I keep tearing the callous on my left hand pinky finger despite filing it and moisturizing. After I tore it, I put on liquid new skin and it felt like liquid fire on raw skin. I seriously hope they don’t expect anyone to put that on children’s cuts

Today I finally received my 49th birthday gift from Frank. We ordered it a while ago and it came today.

It’s a 13mm custom belt we ordered from Bob’s belts. I’d been looking at their site for years and finally asked for one for my birthday. I even got my initials embroidered on the back.

The first time I wear it in contest will be my first M2 meet. I hope it brings me luck.

Big-time deads and Zerchers. I love the belt.

Thanks. I love the belt too. Frank looks after me

It’s already getting worked in quite nicely and much more pliable.

I took the new belt for a spin.

255-3-add belt
285-1 straps
305-1
325-1 add wraps (the only rep with wraps.)
285-2,3x1

I think this is the heaviest I’m going. I can’t see going any heavier than 325 at provincials. I’m thinking of opening at 125 (275) so I’ll likely go between 125 and 135 and hammer depth. On the last singles at 285 I brought my feet in a bit and was able to get down a bit better.

Bench
bar-10

We had other stuff planned but I decided that was enough for now.

Zerchers are great for that “yes I get into loads of fights” looks. Cute doggie, yes I can well see that a shepard-mastiff needs loads of exercise.

Yesterday we had a client lunch at the mandarin and I’m still riding the subsequent sodium bloat.

I just got bored with this

The attached picture is a baby blanket I just finished crocheting. Franks daughter had a boy November 19. He is my second step grand child. That’s right. I’m a step gramma.

A grandma! Oh my.

You are so industrious, O.

Last night was our work party and it was a blast. There were almost 100 of us and we had a bowling party. I suck at bowling which makes it more fun because I can relax, have a drink and just roll with it. I’m not much of a drinker so even a few affects me the next day.

Today we went to the Y in St. Catharines for a bit of team training.

Deadlift
135-2x5
225-2 add suit bottoms
275-1 add belt
315-1 add straps
335-1 felt easy but the bar moved in my hand again and I ended up with a blood blister. Same spot as before, left hand pinky. I think I just haven’t let it heal properly. Between now and the meet, I’m not going heavy and I’m pulling with straps to let my hand heal.

Deadlift to knees/pause and lock out
275-2x4 suit bottoms and belt
225-4x4 nothing

Bench
bar-10
95-3
105-3x5

Then we tried Jerry Marentettes new thing for stability. You bench to about 6 inches off your chest and hold it for 10 seconds. One of the guys put his hand down for the right height. Then you lower to 1 inch off your chest and hold another 10 seconds. You press the bar and do it again. You probably can’t press it again and your spotters pull it up for you. I did it with 85lbs and 95lbs. It was kind of hard.

All the guys went for a soak in the whirlpool and I futzed around with front squats
95-5
115-5
135-2x5

I spent the afternoon making hor dourves for our family Christmas dinner at my sister’s in Barrie tomorrow which likely won’t happen because we are all braced for a shit kicking ice storm.
