Just a Beer Light to Guide Us...

Christmas is a bit of a hodge podge this year. For the past ten years, my girls have stayed at my place Christmas eve and the morning and then went to their dad’s place. This year was the same but the difference is that Frank is working all Christmas and new years. He works nights, 11:30 to 9:30 so there wasn’t really much overlap Christmas morning.I kind of had Christmas morning with the girls, then Frank got home, then the girls left. We went for a long walk with the dog.

Yesterday we squatted
bar-10
135-5
185-3
225-3 add suit bottoms
255-1 add belt
275-1 add straps
295- bunch of singles. I’m having a tough time getting down and was playing with stance. It’s still giving me a problem.

Today I benched
bar-10
95-3
105-3x5
double paused bench
85 & 95

Interspersed in all of this is my Christmas vacation project. I have an old Ikea book case with glass front doors that I bought in 1990. It is pine look press board. I decided to fancify it to fit in with the rest of my decor. I painted the body in high gloss aubergine and the shelves are gloss cream colour to contrast. I took the doors off and painted the frame in champagne mettallic paint. It’s a flat paint and only has a slight metallic sheen to it. The final part, that I’m in the midst of is applying wall paper to the backing of the shelves. Tomorrow I’m going to get nice new knobs at Home Depot. I’ll post a picture when I’m done. It sounds kind of busy but because there are glass doors on the front and it will be filled with china, the wall paper will be very much background and more of a suggestion of colour.

Have a great Christmas.

And then I went a benched a bit more.

Bar-5
95-3
105-2
115-1
120-1
125-1

Hope the storm was ok. A Jackie of all trades! Speaking of which what’s that cookie poop recipe you have?

Things seemed to move slowly this evening so we only ended up benching and squatting

bench
bar-10
95-3
115-1
135-3 add shirt
155-1 signals
165-1"
155-1

squat
bar-10
135-5
165-3
195-5x3

Then a frigid dog walk

I’ve been falling behind logging due to Christmas bloat and festivities.

Last Friday we went to St. Catharines for team training and general mockery of each other.

I think everyone was deadlifting.

135-2x5
225-2
275-2 add suit bottoms/belt
315-2 add straps
335-1

I bought a pair of lifting gloves at Target during the week and was heavily mocked for the fancy pink stitching. Well I was just mocked. However, they didn’t hold up well after 225 and I had to switch to straps which had it’s own difficulties. I had tried to pull 345 which came up fast and then got weird and wobbly because the straps were drooping. When you use straps, you futz around so long at the bar you lose your air. They aren’t great for heavy singles for me.

I won’t be pulling bareback until the meet to give my left hand plenty of time to heal.

Pull to knees/pause/lock out
225-6x4

Zerchers
135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185 - 4 each

Nice work. I’m feeling weak!

Great pulling. Close to three times bodyweight is impressive!

I hate pulling with straps. It’s hard enough to get in the proper starting position without having to mess around with getting the straps in place. I’ve seen guys get both hands done in around 5 seconds but I don’t use them very often and it takes me a heck of a lot longer and completely throws me off.

I wouldn’t normally pull heavy single with straps but I’m trying to let my hand heal before the meet. I can’t do them quickly so you lose your air farting around with them.

I missed logging earlier in the week.

Monday was squat day…

Squat
bar-10
13-5
185-3
225-3 add suit bottoms
255-1 add belt
275-1 add straps
295-1
275- couple of singles. This is my opener and I’m still struggling with depth. It’s like I stop cold. I’m trying with pulling the legs of the suit up a bit for more give.

Bench
bar-10
95-3
105-3x5

Wednesday was supposed to be bench day but I drank a bit during the day. Not enough to be silly but enough to be mellow and cuddly. It’s not really effective when you really just want to spoon or read a book in the tub.

We put it off until today.

Bench
bar-10
95-5
115-1
135-2 add shirt
155- signals
165-1 same
155-1
165-1
155-1

155 (70kg) will be my opener and 165 75 kg is my planned second.

Squat
bar-10
135-5
165-3
195-5x3

Plus I knit a hat. I have a face like a greyhound.

Cute hat. Cute pic!

When is provincials?

Happy New Year! Damn I feel weak after reading all those numbers.

Made the cookies, then had lots of left over chickpeas so made some Espinacas con Garbanzos and Garlic Parmesan roasted ones.

Not much today. Just deadlift. I was going to do a bit of light benching but when I set up and pulled my blades in, I was getting a painful pinching in my right shoulder blade so I left it alone for now.

Deadlift
135-2x5
225-2
225-2 add suit bottoms
275-2
315-1 add straps
325-1
345-1

I’m super excited because I bought a new laptop on ebay for a great price. I"ve been spending part of the weekend setting it up and transferring files. It’s always a lot of work to do.

What did you think of the cookies? I love them. It’s an easy way to get a few calories and nutrition into my younger daughter.

Another quickie/longie. Training in gear not much happens but it takes super long.

Squat
bar-10
135-5
185-3
205-1
225-3 add suit bottoms
255-1 add belt and straps - this would be my last warm up
275-3x1 all pretty tight with decent depth

Bench
bar-10
95-5
100-5
105-5
110-5
115-2

That is all

thats not all
thats kind of allot.

and your 345 pull is pretty bad ass.
kind of like your hat too.

Damn, you started this when you were 41? This just confirms my bias that the 40’s ARE the new 20’s.

The cookies were yum, but didn’t cool down the chickpeas first so by the time I got them in the oven choc chips had melted. Gonna try them again only maybe with almond butter and to not melt the chocolate before they get in the oven.

I just use canned chick peas and mash them cold. It took me a while to figure out the best way to grind them up. I also add a bit of oatmeal as a binder sometimes.

dropping to say hi, it’s been awhile. Love the hat!

Hi back at you. I like the hat too but it already feels too big. My head must be getting leaner.

I find it super boring prepping for meets. Everything is fairly structured and there isn’t any room for stupid fun things.

Last night was bench
bar-10
95-5
115-1
135-2 add shirt
155-1 signals

Goblet squats to keep warm while Frank did shirt work

squat
135-5
165-3
195-5x3
These felt kind of tough

Meet is January 18, next Saturday.

Good luck in the meet. Sounds like all cylinders are firing.
I also like the hat, it looks good on you.
