Christmas is a bit of a hodge podge this year. For the past ten years, my girls have stayed at my place Christmas eve and the morning and then went to their dad’s place. This year was the same but the difference is that Frank is working all Christmas and new years. He works nights, 11:30 to 9:30 so there wasn’t really much overlap Christmas morning.I kind of had Christmas morning with the girls, then Frank got home, then the girls left. We went for a long walk with the dog.
Yesterday we squatted
bar-10
135-5
185-3
225-3 add suit bottoms
255-1 add belt
275-1 add straps
295- bunch of singles. I’m having a tough time getting down and was playing with stance. It’s still giving me a problem.
Interspersed in all of this is my Christmas vacation project. I have an old Ikea book case with glass front doors that I bought in 1990. It is pine look press board. I decided to fancify it to fit in with the rest of my decor. I painted the body in high gloss aubergine and the shelves are gloss cream colour to contrast. I took the doors off and painted the frame in champagne mettallic paint. It’s a flat paint and only has a slight metallic sheen to it. The final part, that I’m in the midst of is applying wall paper to the backing of the shelves. Tomorrow I’m going to get nice new knobs at Home Depot. I’ll post a picture when I’m done. It sounds kind of busy but because there are glass doors on the front and it will be filled with china, the wall paper will be very much background and more of a suggestion of colour.
I bought a pair of lifting gloves at Target during the week and was heavily mocked for the fancy pink stitching. Well I was just mocked. However, they didn’t hold up well after 225 and I had to switch to straps which had it’s own difficulties. I had tried to pull 345 which came up fast and then got weird and wobbly because the straps were drooping. When you use straps, you futz around so long at the bar you lose your air. They aren’t great for heavy singles for me.
I won’t be pulling bareback until the meet to give my left hand plenty of time to heal.
Great pulling. Close to three times bodyweight is impressive!
I hate pulling with straps. It’s hard enough to get in the proper starting position without having to mess around with getting the straps in place. I’ve seen guys get both hands done in around 5 seconds but I don’t use them very often and it takes me a heck of a lot longer and completely throws me off.

I wouldn’t normally pull heavy single with straps but I’m trying to let my hand heal before the meet. I can’t do them quickly so you lose your air farting around with them.
Squat

13-5
185-3
225-3 add suit bottoms
255-1 add belt
275-1 add straps
295-1
275- couple of singles. This is my opener and I’m still struggling with depth. It’s like I stop cold. I’m trying with pulling the legs of the suit up a bit for more give.
Bench
bar-10
95-3
105-3x5
Wednesday was supposed to be bench day but I drank a bit during the day. Not enough to be silly but enough to be mellow and cuddly. It’s not really effective when you really just want to spoon or read a book in the tub.
Not much today. Just deadlift. I was going to do a bit of light benching but when I set up and pulled my blades in, I was getting a painful pinching in my right shoulder blade so I left it alone for now.
I’m super excited because I bought a new laptop on ebay for a great price. I"ve been spending part of the weekend setting it up and transferring files. It’s always a lot of work to do.
Another quickie/longie. Training in gear not much happens but it takes super long.
Squat
bar-10
135-5
185-3
205-1
225-3 add suit bottoms
255-1 add belt and straps - this would be my last warm up
275-3x1 all pretty tight with decent depth
Damn, you started this when you were 41? This just confirms my bias that the 40’s ARE the new 20’s.

Happy New Year! Damn I feel weak after reading all those numbers.
Made the cookies, then had lots of left over chickpeas so made some Espinacas con Garbanzos and Garlic Parmesan roasted ones.
What did you think of the cookies? I love them. It’s an easy way to get a few calories and nutrition into my younger daughter.
The cookies were yum, but didn’t cool down the chickpeas first so by the time I got them in the oven choc chips had melted. Gonna try them again only maybe with almond butter and to not melt the chocolate before they get in the oven.

I just use canned chick peas and mash them cold. It took me a while to figure out the best way to grind them up. I also add a bit of oatmeal as a binder sometimes.
