Thanks  I never stopped skulking around.

Today was a visit to St. Catharine’s for a bit of training and much discussion about the upcoming nationals. As I think I mentioned, our club is hosting. Plus now that I’m President, I have to approve all of our provincial entries and then pass them on to the meet director. This morning was a pass off of a bunch of Ontario lifters and signing a bunch of approvals for our club.

This afternoon we are having a planning meeting for the June Toronto Super Show as we are hosting and organizing it again this year. We already have 18 lifters registered.

It’s been busy, busy, busy with all sorts of powerlifting administrative stuff. I did get to train though.

For no apparent reason, I’m feeling a bit pissy and fragmented the last couple of days. I feel like I’m going in too many directions. Saturday I’ll be spending the day at a local college promoting our association along with a couple of other OPA members.

On the bright side, I was able to source a local trophy company to do a plaque for our male athlete of the year who is also a blind lifter. I wanted it in braille.

I decided to take a break from deadlifts for a couple of weeks because my left shoulder has been kicking off when I pull. I decided to try something a bit different; strap squats. It’s kind of like pin squats/anderson squats but rather than off the pins, the bar is suspended from tow straps. I like the set up much better. It feels like I’m in a spot more closely approximating the bottom of a squat than it feels from off pins. I set the bar height so it was just above parallel, at the transition spot out the hole.

That’s all.

I was up and out early today promoting the OPA. We were invited to a meet at Seneca College just outside Toronto. We were to have a booth to talk to college kids about our federation. It was a college meet and I was expecting a shit show. I was very pleasantly surprised. The venue at the school was beautiful. The meet was well organized and although they didn’t have real (OPA) referees, the kids acting as refs did a creditable job. We had a large table, a dedicated t.v. on a wall to run a video and a spot for out banner and books. I’m looking into using the school for other meets. It reminded me of the set up at the Olympic Oval in Richmond with floor to ceiling windows on one end of the space. I’ll give the kid who set it up very big thumbs up. One of our founders was looking to possibly partner with him on a college and university program but didn’t know what he’d be like. I gave him a very sterling recommendation so I hope they can work it out.

Along with our federation were the multiply guys (CPF) One of them is an old friend of mine I hadn’t seen in a while so we had a great time shooting the shit and talking bench technique. He’s an 800+ bencher.

I bought a new Centurian several weeks ago and today I finally put it on. The straps are very loose the way I like them and the hips are nice and tight.

On Saturday when I was at the college meet, I spent a lot of time chatting with a friend who is a multiply bencher. He has a ton of great information. We talked about my technique and the shirts I have. Currently I use a super katana. I also have an old f6 and fury. His opinion is that the super k has a lot of stopping power but kicks off quickly on lock out. His suggestion is to go back to the f6 because, while it’s not as strong off the chest, it carries through further to lock out. It’s kind of big on me. I might try it Wednesday and then pick up needle and thread and tighten it up to see how it works.

On Monday I ordered a new pair of sbd knee sleeves. I think I mismeasured my legs because they are tight as crap and tough to get on . They loosened off a bit during training so I hope they will a bit more over time. Other than the ‘holy crap how do I get them on’, they were great. I’ve worn Rehbands for years. They are longer and thicker than Rehbands.

Anyway, it was actually bench day.

Try putting the sbd’s on over hairy legs, not fun! I think you will like them but they are a bit tough to get on even after some usage.

I’m doing a push/pull this weekend and I’m taking my Tommy Kono’s for pulling as they are much easier to get on.

We went to the Y in St. Catharines because I had a crap ton of entries for nationals to drop off the the meet director. We trained with our club.

I’m still avoiding deadlift but will likely get back to it next week.

My knee sleeves are a bit more manageable. Last night I put powder on the inside of them and worked it into the neoprene. The went on a lot easier today.

Double quote.

DBasler, based on your comment, I shaved my legs last night  They were getting a bit unmanageable.

I have lost many a deadlift because of too much friction on my unshaven legs:)

Lifting really impressive weights, Julie! And you have had no trouble maintaining the lower weight?

Sounds like you’re really busy with the CPU. Denver is hosting several exciting meets this year, including USAPL Raw Nationals and IPF Open Worlds. It is so fun to have the events in my backyard.

Won’t worlds masters be in Colorado next year? I’d like to try and make that one. I’ve been super busy with the cpu. Myself and a couple of the old timers have an agenda of proposals for the national agm. Even just day to day stuff. Once you’re the boss, it’s all your problem. I’m still trying to get me feet under me. I have a good executive committee but there are a couple of growth projects that I would like other people to work on because they have the time and expertise.

Yes, IPF Masters Worlds will be here in 2015! I hope you and Frank make it. It would be fun to see you guys again.

I am confident you are an excellent leader but hope you don’t get too bogged down in all the politics of PLing in your new role.

I’m seeing bugs. Not real bugs but it feels like it. The other day after skating I saw a string of bright lights in the corner of my right eye and shortly after got the biggest freaking eye floater ever. It’s like fruit flies or dust bunnies skimming across my vision. I’ve had floaters before but not like this. It isn’t bad indoors but in the sunlight, I’ve been driving with my right eye shut because the floater is so distracting. I went to the eye doctor and she said it would disappear in time and there was no damage to my eye but it was likely created or knocked loose when I hit my face a few weeks ago.

So like a trooper I trained through my faux d.t’s

Then we had an awesome roast beef lunch and our meeting.

The weather was pretty warm today so I took advantage and broke a bunch of ice outside for an hour or so because it’s been like a skating rink. That was harder than training. I can barely lift my arms now.

Not really but it felt like it. I took my squat shoes to a shoe repair for new soles. I’ve been using them since December 2008 and they needed a bit of tlc. I don’t want to get new shoes because I like the feel of these ones. I ended up squatting and benching in my deadlift shoes. It wasn’t the worst but didn’t feel great for heavy squats. I prefer the thick, wide sole of squat shoes so I don’t get lateral movement of my feet. I wear 6 1/2 and my feet are like skinny little flippers.

68? That’s all? HA! But really, holy shit. Big squats too. I can only hope to be so strong someday!

I just had to buy shoes to wear for my meet, normally I just go barefoot. Nowhere had any lifting shoes, so I just got wrestling ones. So far, so good. But I think I’ll end up getting different ones for squatting.

I’m going to close my eyes next time I do push-ups, see what I get
