Jumping and Power Absorption

Just bumping this thread in case I have any questions in the next couple of days…

If you want to improve your vertical jump, the best thing to do would be to spend time vertical jumping. I played junior college basketball and have been able to dunk since the 8th grade when I was 6’2". I used to jump off one foot because I didnt have the strength to get up off two. Since I was a junior in highschool I have been able to dunk easily off two feet. I have tried many diff methods but lifting and playing/sprinting/jumping in the same day has always worked well.

There is no need in IMO to even do depth jumps. It doesnt mimic jumping off solid ground in the least. Using a depth jump over 12 inches results in a much greater force stimulus for a stretch reflex which will not be available when you are doing a normal jump. I suppose it does help with rapid force production but I dont think it converts to regular jumping much. People should practice regular jumping first at least for a half a year or so before depth jumping… and deadlifts mimic jumping, not squats…

So you’ve been able to dunk since the 8th grade and that makes you a guru?

Honestly one of the worst posts I’ve ever read…

Do you NEED to do depth jumps to dunk?
Certainly not.
Can the be one of, if not the most, beneficial tools in building an elite vertical?
Without a doubt.
