That there is no such thing as bad publicity
He thought it was all about mind set?
What does using the spotter bars say about his mindset?
I saw this, this morning.
Couldn’t bench 4 plates without help from the spotter. Just jumped to 725. Then after miserably being pinned by the weight tried to do it again.
I admire this guys sense of his capabilities (being this delusional must be nice until you get a reality check).
Awesome that this video is making its way around the internet again, haha. It’s a classic. It’s gotta be at least 10 years old, eh?
EDIT: found the original, looks like it’s only 7.
Close, I think it occurred in 2014.
The record at the time of this attempt was 722 by Eric Spoto, who could do 405 for 26 reps. The guy in the video barely ground out a double with 400.
Muscle beats mindset, I guess?
Ya’ll are putting WAY too much thought into a publicity stunt here guys
And spoto used to post here.
Look at those Guns!
Cool info from the man himself. I was most surprised by Spoto’s chins. Bodyweight (285) + 90 pounds x 8! Also real strong at dips, hammer curls and rows, which were increasingly less surprising. Serious about shoulder health! 3 x 20 on three different rotator cuff moves on light days.
Does anyone here think Zamani’s 800 bench press is legit? I do not anymore. I gave him the benefit of the doubt while he was chasing it, and then when he hit it. But afterwards, the fact that he was cool with just hitting it for instagram and then moving onto deadlift or whatever, just makes me think it’s bullshit. Which is super disappointing.
If he had never competed previously, I’d be more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt, because you could just argue that he doesn’t care about powerlifting competitions in general. But the fact that he has several meets under his belt takes that argument away. I can’t buy the idea that when he was benching in the 600’s, he cared about competing and making his numbers official, but then he hits an all time world record and won’t do it in competition? Nah. Miss me with that.
I’ve thought it was suspect from the beginning. Not enough to say it isn’t legit, but I am not going to make any claims that he did it legit either.
Spoto came into the Golds/EOS i used to lift at a few times 8 or so years ago, he was an absolute monster. He loaded up the isolateral lat pulldown with more weight per side than I used total and just casually repped it out, hit me right in the confidence.
The guy is huge, so maybe? But if he doesn’t do a contest, then it’s just another dubious instagram lift.
He got it off his chest well.
