Julius Maddox 800lb Bench?

Saw this. I was leaning to it being real when I first started seeing the posts weeks ago but the bar speed doesn’t seem to slow down. Now starting to feel like it’s heavy but not totally legit. Any thoughts.

I dunno, the way the spotter unracks it and the way he doesn’t just crush it but it moves too smoothly… Wouldn’t say it fails the sniff test but doesn’t feel really fresh either.

Would like to see him compete.

He really needs to do a contest to silence any doubt. Otherwise, it’s just a questionable gym lift.

From an article about the lift:

“The Iranian powerlifter has been steadily increasing his raw bench press presumably to challenge current bench press world record holder Julius Maddox to be the first human ever to score a 362.9-kilogram (800-pound) bench press. In April 2021, Zamani pressed 330 kilograms (727 pounds); two months after that, he pressed 337.5 kilograms (744 pounds), and now this 347.5-kilogram (766.1-pound) PR. That means in just three months, he added 17.5 kilograms (38.9 pounds) to his bench press

So yeah - make that increase of 39 lbs to 48 lbs.

Then, if we look on openpowerlifting, you can see his best lift:

760, in single-ply. Huge bench, very strong, don’t know what single-ply adds to your lift, but it must be pretty tough to bench 15 lbs over your single ply PR. I guess we’ll just have to see.

This.

Nothing to say its not real and he can clearly bench massive weights but the lift just looks smooth that it makes you wonder…

Apparently C.T. Fletcher has arranged a bench showdown between the two of them at Iron Wars V on Jan. 24, 2022. Should be good.

I believe but could be wrong the someone at a bench world record in single ply that beat out multi ply and a bench shirt can add hundreds on lbs to a lift. Example is the shirted bench record over 1,000 lbs and the heaviest raw closing in on 800 and they aren’t the same person

Jimmy Kolb in singly ply beat out both multi and band shirt records. He’s a meatball bench god.

I get about 200lbs out of my single ply.

Can’t find footage but Julius missed the 800lbs. That last heavy attempt in training looked tough so probably not surprising.

Here. Tried two attempts, misgrooved the first, the second wasn’t even close.

Looking at the spotter on the 352.5kg bench. Questionable is the best way to put it. But then I always think gym lifts are questionable.

As for Maddox - it looked good for a while. A real shame. I really want to see him do it.

Missing the 800 sucks, but did Maddox break his own ATWR (again) with his first attempt?

Thomas Davis putting down a 716.5 gym lift:

Matching this in a meet would give him 4th all time, another 6lbs would put him 3rd. Would give him the biggest bench in a full meet.

Long way off 800 but impressive AF.

I reckon TD’s total is just as impressive as his bench. ATWR total in sleeves is within range for him

Something about the plates on the bar looks off. Notice the plates on the floor are duller and have scuff marks. The plates on the bar are very smooth and shiny with no discoloration or scuffing.

I think that’s cause people were giving him shit about the plates he was using, saying they were fake.

Just wanted to revive this thread and remind everyone about the Eric Spoto saga right here on TNation.

Eric Spoto: hey guys, I’m Eric! I’ve never competed in powerlifting before, but I’m crazy strong, here are a bunch of videos of some of my lifts, Probably not gonna compete until I can set a world record!

TNation: LIAR! FAKE PLATES! NOT LEGIT! PHOTOSHOP! DO IT IN A MEET OR IT DOESN’T COUNT! THAT LOOKED TOO EZ, BAR DIDNT BEND!

Eric: Cool bye.

Just saying. I have no idea if this Zamanis dude is legit or not, but I’m inclined to believe it. I wanted to remind (or inform) you guys that we’ve been here before. Just because a gym lift seems bonkers doesn’t mean it’s not legit.
