Most of my lifts are pretty terrible, but I grew up on a farm so my back and grip or disproportionally strong. I pulled 405 the first time I tried it when I had previously only been working out with 225 for sets of 10-12. It was definitely a satisfying experience although I haven’t tried it since.

This is a little misleading in 2 respects:
- You initially have to cut your 1rm by 90% and you start out with lighter weights for a few cycles. So while it may be an 80 lb. increase, you initially cut like 30 pounds off. And just because your training max increases doesn’t mean your 1rm increases in-step. My DL regressed on 531 despite hitting above the prescribed reps for a number of cycles.
- But, with proper programming inside 531, you can increase your 1rm more than just the standard progression on the program. Working with only a 240 training max (aka, highest I went was 230), I hit 275 on bench.

What proper programming are you referring to?
Also, what other deadlift programs would you all recommend?

I agree with the 1rm max thing. Mine hasn’t gone up as much. What proper programming are you referring to?

edit: I’m gonna try the Coan/Phillipi routine.
I meant within 5/3/1, proper assistance lifts programming. Like, getting the right exercises and growth so you can continue to get stronger. For me, I wasn’t working the PC enough so I regressed.
OK Desmoove get a life this is for ppl trying to reach 405. If your going to try and “show off” with a higher PR at least give some helpful input that might help/encourage others. Tool.
I got to use chalk for the first time today. Its amazing how much chalk helps.
The most I’ve ever done was 315x5. But today I got 365x3! FUCK YES. My glutes have never had to contract so hard b4. It felt like the skin on my hand wanted to come off but I’ve never had a stronger grip. I dont know why I havent used chalk earlier.
My session today went like this:
Some calf work
Deads-135x8, 185x3, 225x3, 285x3(Switched to mix grip), 315x1(chalked up), 335x1, 355x1, 365x3, 315x3x3sets
Shrugs- worked up to 365
Decline abs- couple sets
I just recently started using mix grip and never used weights this heavy before so I felt like 365x3 was a good place to stop for this session. 405 will be mine.

Wow that’s a huge difference, congrats. I’m surprised chalk made that much of a difference when you were already using a mixed grip. Especially since it was for low reps where I would think your grip wouldn’t be affected too much.

I dont think it was the fact that my hands weren’t strong enough to hold the weight, but I think that the bar was just simply slipping out of my hand and the chalk finally allowed me to grip it as hard as I could.
Whatever it is, I’m very pleased with using chalk and I got to lift in my free EFS shirt that came with the chalk.

it was the shirt. EFS shirt will add 20lbs to any lift.

What style of deadlift is everyone using for their workouts? Does anyone change up their routine romanians standard overhand alternate? I am wondering if I am the only one changing it up like that
I do conventional for regular deads on my back day, but I’ll do rack pulls every other session. On leg days, I do 1-2 working sets of RDLs after squats.
On a similar note, how are you guys working deadlifts? As in, 5x5 all working sets, ramping up to a main set, or certain percentages, etc…
Conventional.
5/3/1.
I’ve recently started doing RDLs and I’m going to throw in deficit deads now because I can’t get the bar off the floor. blah
How are you liking 5/3/1 in general and for deadlifts? It seems a lot of people are doing it but then I see posts like “I got ___x2 and now 5 cycles later I nailed (same weight)x5”, that’s like 20 weeks though right? Doesn’t seem too great of progress unless they’re really advanced. I’ve actually heard that a few times about 5/3/1, being better for those who are more advanced.
With a 300lb lift and using a standard 1RM calculator each rep is equivalent to about 10lbs. It also depends on what your definition of what an advanced lifter is. In your example above that is about 75lbs a year so how new at lifting do you have to be to consider 75lbs bad progress in a year?

I just ordered one of every TMUSCLE shirt, I’m hoping they’ll do the same lol
Eat a large pizza an hour before your lift, 2 caffeine pills and some beta alanine and you’ll hit 405 like nothing. Oh and think of something disturbing and horrible to piss you off. Pm if you want ideas of what that can be…lol
Did the week 1 workout of the Coan/Phillipi routine. Worked up to a 275 double, which was easy. Then, did speed deadlifts for 8 sets of 3 with 225. That shit was tiring.
My right eye is red, so maybe I popped a vessel? lol idk.
I’ll join. Hope to get it within 3 months. I pulled 242 lbs for 3 sets of 4 yesterday.
I’m in also.
Pull conventional, ramped sets of 3 to max effort, then set of 10 at 83% of max.
Jan 10 was at 305x3 max, 283x10
last week 367.5x3 max, 307.5x10
405x3 by December.
I wish I could get my squat to move even close to this. I’m stuck at teen girl weights.
My last workout I pulled 320 x 6 for my last 5/3/1 set. Wasn’t particularly happy with that to be honest, but I was over tired and the guy that was supposed to just stand there and tell me if and when my back started to round kept shouting at me to breathe on the eccentric and breathe out on the concentric, which might be fine for him, but I know personally it is a sure fire way to lose stability in my midsection and consequently lose my arch. Anywho; the constant repetition of unwanted advice put me off somewhat…well that’s my excuse anyway :D.

The grip was the only thing holding me back. Chalk, you are my savior. 495 is definitly in me!
CONGRATS
Way to go KT!
I’m going for it today! Not going for it, but DOING IT
I’m entering my son Tom Jr. He’s fifteen, weighs app 134 and planning on his first meet in Septemeber. His current pr is 320 . He just missed 340 at my office last week. Yesterday he did 250 for 11, I think, or it might be ten.
After his 340 miss he asked me if not sleeping much the night before might have affected his lifting. I told him yes and gave him that your a dumbass look dads give. He’s doing Jim’s 5 3 1 btw.
Also, his twin sister, Katie did 135 for 7 in her second try at deadlifts. She did 150 the first time she tried them with a close miss at 170. She’s shooting for 300. She weighs around 115 at 5’2".
