Hit 170kg (374lbs) today, then failed at 180kg twice and 175kg once, Should’ve gone for 175kg first, cos i think I would’ve nailed it.
Hips rise a bit early, anyone know how to fix that?

In. I’ve done 315x11 before and that’s when I used the best technique which I have learned very recently hope to rep out 405 in a few months

your hips are probably too low
Hi guys,
I’m a complete beginner
I’ll join
Just pulled a 231x4 earlier this morning, my back was aweful, my legs were strong tho, but my grip just went dead of the 3rd set, straps kept the barbell hanging. I’ll have to deaload 20 Lbs to correct all the problems above.

x2
Before the bar breaks on a heavy pull, your body defaults to the optimal pulling position. This is why a lot of people’s hips shoot up while breaking it and they wonder what’s wrong. In reality, they simply don’t have their hips set right.
Play around with the starting position. Best of luck.
325 for one currently. hopefully 405 by march
In! I’ve yet to max out completely to the point of grinding. I pulled 315x1 recently after a workset of 285x5. In a few weeks I’m going to try for 340x1 and see what happens.
Whoops forgot about this thread.
Hit the 405 on christmas eve.
Critique of video, and form is appreciated.
Hopefully I wanna get 500 by the time I turn 19 (may)

First of all, congratulations on pulling 405.
In the video of your 405 DL, I can see that your hips rose and you ended up stiff-legging the bar to lockout. Try to push your hips through and pull the bar back. Don’t worry too much, though - most people’s form breaks down a bit when they attempt a max.

I have an addendum to this…
As a sumo puller myself, I would suggest a wider stance. I say this because I’ve been there, done that with a modified sumo stance (which is what it looks like you’re using), and I was never really able to rock back onto my heels and get my hips into the movement. As a result, I used a lot more back than anything else. A wider stance, if you have the mobility sorted out for it (never had that problem personally), should enable you to use more hips, which ought to sort out the stiff-legging. And again, remember that having the weight on the heels is particularly critical for sumo.
Good job on the PR. Keep it up.

Thanks to you both. Really appreciate it!
I’ll keep that in mind; to try and be wider. My mobility is getting there; not bad but not great. The only real cue I ever had someone tell me was to bang the bar like it was a girl lol, so this really helps.
Thanks again!
I hit 170kg on Monday conventional, and it feels a lot stronger than sumo. I haven’t pulled conventional in ages, and theres some form issues to iron out, but I was very happy with how strong it felt. I reckon sumo pulling for several months has had some carry over.
Hopefully in a couple of weeks I’ll have a 180kg pull, maybe even 185
Failed 180kg conventional. Should’ve tried to grind it out instead of giving up as soon as it got shaky.
Block pulls from below the knee are going to get hammered next cycle
Ahh man, I hit 394 today. I thought it was over 400, but I didn’t add it up until after, damn…well I’ll hit it in a few weeks!
Well. Im in .my best is 315 x3. From a deficit. Have failed about 6 inches off the floor with heavier weight . Starting coan cycle this week.

You definitely have 405 in the bag. I got 385 last week and it’s been tempting to go for 405 now, but I’m just going to up the weight again and blow past 405 at the end of next cycle.
nice home gym btw!
I hit 365 standard deadlift last semester, raw (never have used straps/belt) with my eye on the 4 plate mark but never quite made it there. Been on a less power-driven program this semester, which has been fun and rewarding, but I do miss the satisfaction of lifting 2x+ bodyweight off the floor.
