Added deadlifts to my training about a month ago. First time out I barely cleared 315. 4 days ago I did 315x5 and 355x1. Today I hit 370. Haven’t recorded any vids yet. I probably should have waited longer, but I could have sworn I hadn’t deadlifted in a week.
I’m in for this. 165 at 5’10", sumo stance, best pull was 335 lbs RAW back in October. Pulled an easy 410 lbs in a Centurion last weekend, so I’m eager to re-test and see what my RAW DL is now. Only been training since this last September, started out back then with a 255 lb pull.
No gloves no belt nothin.
deadlifted 245 12 times
rack pulled 365
Im coming you 405 son of a bitch!
Took my first stab at 405 today. Got 385 up real easy after a ton of failed attempts on 405. My grip isn’t all that hot and I’m burning a 24hr fitness trial while I’m on vacation from school so I gotta deal with this smooth ass bar. I took one last stab at 405 and almost cleared it but the bar came out 3-4 inches from lockout. Went back and pulled 395, did some curls and some pullups and called it a day.
You all stay motivated in this thread, keep the videos coming, and keep working hard.
Sit back, head up, deep breath, grip n rip. Keep the hips low. Drive back and through the floor.
Dont get extravagant with all the bands and chains, and pin pulls. Keep Pulling. If anything try some plate pulls if your slow off the floor.

I always heard that you progress faster by lifting with stronger people - so I’d like to join in!
Did 305# in my first meet 2 weeks ago, and tonight did 250 x 4.
I’m doing the 5/3/1, but it’s going to be a lot of cycles before I get to #405![/quote]
Lifting with people stronger then you always helps. I always try to do the same.
Iced 405 clean and raw. Was gonna go for 425 but the school gym closes at 10 on sundays so I’ll have to wait until next time. Good luck to everyone still in the hunt.
Finally got around to re-testing my deadlift max today and got an easy 405 followed by an easy 425 with a trap bar. I feel like I could have hit 450 easily had I not done a bunch of snatch and push press beforehand and/or had more than 4 hours of sleep the night before. Last time I got a new max DL was something like a year and a half ago when I got a real ugly single at 385 with a normal barbell. Since then I’ve gone from ~220 at 15% to 234 at ~12-13% and had all my other lifts go up, but have not trained or focused on the deadlift much at all. I did try 405 once or twice during that period, but the bar didn’t budge (pretty sure it was all mental, since I could rack pull 495 from below the knee at the time) I realize that trap-bar is not the same as conventional, but pulling 405 and 425 today obliterated whatever mental block was in my head and I feel like a 405 conventional will be trivial (as it should be given my size and experience).
500 here I come! Damn today felt good!
Posting from Manila, Philippines ![]()
I wanna join the race was able to pull 355x3 last week. Hopefully I can get to that magic number in two months time since I’m gonna join my first PL meet here. Will Pull again this weekend! Can’t wait to get my hands on the bar!
PS Don’t be fooled by my location. I thought I was selecting Philippines but turns out it’s not part of the list… Why is that? PL is quite common here in our country and we have produced some top notch PL’s who have won in some international meets.
hit 405 last night and it went up nice and smooth, form felt good
pretty pumped, onwards to 5 plates
Last time I posted I barely cleared 275 for 1. Last week I knocked out 295 for 3 good reps.
Dam I am joining this quest!
Atm im knocking out 286 for 3 solid reps, the goal for the next 4 weeks?
308 for 3 solid reps.
Pulled 385 on Monday. It felt like I was straining pretty hard, but I don’t think my form broke down too much. I have been alternating pulls from the floor with heavy chain suspended GMs, usually with a cambered squat bar. Usually when I pull from the floor I work up with straight weight then I do a drop set with some chains on the bar. I’ll hopefully be hitting 405 within a few weeks. Lately I have been setting 5-10lb PRs every week.
Update:
Pulled 170kg in a meet today - 374 lbs.
Just 12.5kg left to go and that 405 is mine.
375 @ 135 bodyweight. I hit 385 but dont have a vid and failed at 395. Should be at 3x bodyweight soon

DAMN. Impressive. The back rounded slightly as you went up but your thoracic extension at the top was intense. Aim for that 3x’s bodyweight, that’s one of my goals as well(gotta a little ways though). I’m talking standard deadlift for me, though, my long legs aren’t too fond of sumo squats.
To everyone else, take strong consideration on mentally preparing yourself for the four-plate lift. When I was training with a gentleman much more experienced than me, he told me that he could tell I was scared of getting four plates up. He claims he could read my face(must have been pretty scared). Different for certain people, but I had to channel all my hate/rage/angst/pain and let the barbell be the representative of them and find the confidence that you can overcome it. Find that place and tear it from the floor. Shelby Starnes also recently posted a livespill on owning the weight as opposed to the weight owning you.

Thanks! I’ve been trying to do a lot of back work so that I can keep it locked in better and avoid rounding. How far are you from 3x bodyweight?
I have done 335 for 10 reps. Doing 531 and DL shooting up quick. First rep at 315+ is slow still of the floor. According to 1 RM calculator I am over 405 but I havn’t had the balls to attempt it yet.
Did 355X4 for the past two weeks. First four sets of yesterdays workout felt easy so I thought I was going to get 6 reps on 355. For some reasons, was only able to get 4. Hopefully I’d get 6 reps on the next workout so I can add 10 more pounds and finally hit 405X6.
I’ll join in. The most i have ever deadlifted was i belive 3 plates and a 25. Maybe a 35? I honestly dont keep track of pr stuff very much. I did 405 one time but i started form the top, so that was much easier obviously.
I will set a goal of 2 months and 1 week from now. I’m at 325 this week and i am upping the weight by 10bs a week until 405.
Edit: Oh and i will be using straps because i can’t comfortably do mixed grip anymore
