Just popping in again to say that I made 215kg today. Conv. style, double overhand hookgrip, no belt. If it was not for this thread, I’d probably not be doing much DL this autumn. So thanks to the topic starter. I just found this to be a worthy challenge. Don’t feel that 225 is too far off now…
Got conventional deadlift of 475x2 last Wednesday, even when my lower back was sore from squats ![]()
I’m doing Ortmayer/Magnusson Routine. Week 8, i think. I usually do 3 weeks of deads from the floor and deload with deficit deads. Current PR of 425x2 on deficits. Good luck everyone!
I have been finding this thread very motivation and finally decided to stop lurking.
I would love to get up to 495 and hit 480 last Saturday with sumo style. I am currently on a cutting program to get down to the 198 category and this cut should last 8 more weeks. (Lyle’s Ultimate Diet 2.0)
I would like to give the Coan/Philipi routine a shot after my cut.
Some great videos in here!
Cheers fellows and good luck reaching 495 and beyond.
I really like this. I am 165 and pulled 425 w/no belt for 1. My geared pull to date is 475.
I know I suck but I am an ok bencher, so this is really good for me.
I will keep you up to date.

Crappy DL session for me today, if it goes like this next time I will blame it on my new program change but hopefully just a bad day. I don’t usually have bad DL days otherwise I would have thought nothing of it.
4 months ago my best pull was 365/1, last week I pulled 435/1 – I’m definitely in!
Should be able to get 495 at least early next year, perhaps before. I can make a compilation video of everyone making it, but should need at least 10 clips to make it worthwhile.
Keep it up everyone!
Had to use an aerobics platform doohicky instead of 2 25 plates stacked on each other on both sides (I’m at home and now use metal un-rubber-coated plates that don’t stack well). It’s slightly higher by maybe 1/2 in to a smidge more. Anyway, I nearly got 425, I got stuck about mid shin for a long grind and had to drop it. Regardless, I’m sure that struggle and strain well help get me stronger.
i’m in. i’ll try in the next couple days =)
im at 460 right now. has been moving up a lot since i stopped going heav a lot and focused on speed pulls and squating. shooting for 495 around late feb to mid march. will keep you guys posted.

Well, I pulled 495 today, but I’m embarrassed to show it
Form was absolutely terrible. Maybe not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but I try to keep lower back in check always. I won’t be maxing for at least another 6 weeks now though, so it’s ok.

It is perfectly fine to have a rounded upper back.

Yep looks fine for a 1RM, if each rep on your 10RM looked like that then maybe you’d have a problem.
Is the upper back rounding thing different for sumo? I’ve always tried to pull my upper back as far back as I can to get a good arch in the lower back and to keep the weight from getting in front of me.
Hit 500 2 weeks ago but hitched it like crazy. I foresee myself hitting it within a month with good from. Count me in on this race

Watch Konstantinovs deadlift, it seems like tall people with long torsos tend to round their upper backs in a lot of cases on conventional deadlifts. Sumo, no.
Anybody else who’s weak off the floor notice that they’re even weaker at pulling from mid shin?
Did 305 50chain x 3 and 345 50cx1 yesterday compared to 455x1 from the floor.
I’m in, current is 440lbs/200kg conventional. Do we need a video when we make the magical 5 plate pull?
