There was a recent studie done at the University of Texas by Dr. John Ivy. The study showed if you included a 1 to 4 of protein to carbohydrate in a sports drink, the endurance of the athletes improved 24%! I read this out of a sporting magazine figuring the guy had something to sell, so I am a bit skeptical. Do you think there is anything to this? Anyone??
Ive seen these data. The study used the product Endurox R4 vs regular carbs. Again, it speaks to the need for protein and carbs during recovery, nothing more. It doesnt say the 1 to 4 ratio is the absolute BEST ratio for recovery. All it says is that 1:4 is better than all carb. Of course I think my ratios are better (especially for weight lifters - that study was done in endurance athletes), especially since my recommendations include hydrolysates, glutamine, and BCAA while that product only has carbs and whey protein.
John Ivy has also published work a few years back comparing carb alone, carb + protein, protein alone on indices of exercise performance and recovery. The end result, a 2:1 ratio of car/protein taken/ingested after exercise was best for promoting athletic recovery and positive impact on anabolic hormones. I believe this study was done with Chandler and believe it or not used a Shaklee product.
