They were calling depth really strict on squats. My 2nd attempt got 2 reds at 452, but it went up really easy. Third attempt I went super deep and it was really hard, but I got three whites.
Bench was awesome. It was basically two warmups and one real attempt since I had hit 315 easy in the gym. Opened with 303, then 315, then 331. 331 went up a little slow, but it didn’t feel heavy.
DL was not so good. My back has been a problem lately and it didn’t hurt yesterday, but the poor training the last month has messed with my form and I’ve got a lot of work to do.
All in all, not a bad meet, but I did not get the 1300 total I was shooting for.
I did, however, win the 198 weight class by a wide margin.

Decent workout. I’m trying to get a lot of pulling done to balance out my bench work. I was reading an article about imbalance and the author suggested if you can’t do one pullup with BW+X=Bench max, then you need to work on your pulling strength. Why not?
I think pulling strength should be close to pushing strength, but I don’t see why the author would compare pullups with bench press since they are in two different planes of motion…not that I’m discouraging pullups!
Row vs Bench & OHP vs Pullups would be more appropriate IMO
My guess is the bench press is probably the strongest pushing you can do and the pullup is the strongest pulling you can do (other than DL). Funny thing, I was just talking to my buddy Tim and he was telling me he did 5 pullups with 100 lbs on him. He weighs 260, so that’s 360 pulling whereas he benched 265 in the competition last weekend. So we’re complete opposites on that (as we are in most comparative studies 5’7 195 vs 6’5 260).
hahah I’m 6’5 275 and there’s no way in hell I could do 5 pullups with 100 pounds…I can’t do much more than 5 pullups with BW! But my bench is close to 400 haha

Yeah, I mean I guess it’s technically not BS but it just seems dumb. It definitely backfires more times than not. Look at 2007 that Monday night game when the Ravens had the Pats undefeated streak in jeopardy. They did that and the Pats missed the kick and then the second time around they hit it.
The Redskins didn’t get screwed. They blew a 17 point lead. If they deserved to win, they would have won.
My only solace is that my boy Matt Schaub (we went to school together and he and I would critique our respective QB performances - mine being in flag football) put up 497 yards with 3 TD’s.
I forgot to set my alarm on Monday night, so I blew it on Tuesday. Today I wanted to work out at UVA, but the lacrosse team was in the old gym I used to use and I didn’t want to impose. Tomorrow I’m going to do OHP and DL.
Yeah man Schaub has really blown up on the scene…you know what’s funny though is that I don’t remember him at all from UVA, even though I suppose we played him 4 times in college…I actually didn’t even realize he went there until I saw somebody had up on facebook last weekend that a UVA grad bombed them for 500 yards…

Yeah, not bad for a guy who looks stoned all the time. We used to give him a hard time about that, but now he makes $8M/year and gets to go to work in shorts. He was the only QB in the Groh era to beat Tech and he has most of the significant passing records. He was only the full time starter for 2002 and 2003. 2001 he split time with Bryson Spinner and I don’t think he played any against Tech that year.

Writing this down, I feel like I didn’t do much, but my heart rate was elevated for much of the time and I was sweating more than usual.
I have eaten very little the past few days. I’m starting a hard cut, but yesterday was a disaster. I ate two protein bars, a cup of fruit, a small bag of peanuts, and a protein shake. Not good.
So, 197 Monday, 195 today. We’ll see how this cut works out.
Now back to pulling for UVA, the Redskins, AND the Texans (all of them this time, not just Matt, especially since they’re playing Dallas).
And of course, whoever is playing TECH (J/K Balla, train’s back on the track, now just get it moving. UNC is the only team I really hate…well, Maryland, West Virginia, Duke, too).
Got some GPP in tonight. Went to help a lady from church move at 5:30…just got home. Tomorrow morning is going to be interesting.
