Then go tell JDS.
Apart from a few lifters, who do you think has ever heard of “5/3/1” (which may be good but is also, btw, fucking complicated) ?
You mean apart from most Sherdog?
And it can’t be THAT complicated: I use it.
Yes- you REALLY should write a mail to JDS and tell him to visit the Sherdog forum for training tips!
Also tell him how much you really admire his buff physique and that those lightweight pansies are not half the man he is.

Congratulations on coming out of the closet - I know it can’t be easy for you macho Crocodile Dundee-types!

I would not presume to tell JDS how to train. Anymore than I would offer you tips on how to act like a douche…
“He has added weight and power, something Lyoto Machida credits with helping him move away from the decision-fighter stigma in 2009. When Machida began lifting weights, his technique found the fuel it needed to hurt people.” http://espn.go.com/extra/mma/blog/_/name/mma/id/4859425
"‘I’m not satisfied about my ratio of knockouts. I have knockouts, but I want to bring my ratio up,’ he (GSP) told Tapology.com. 'I’m more powerful than I was, and by being more powerful, I’m faster as well. Power is strength and speed together.'"
I think Machida and GSP are two of the worlds premier experts on knockouts…

Neither have many KO’s.
Machida didn’t have many prior to this article. Since, he’s fought 5 times, won three, 2 of which are by knockout. That’s a very good improvement over his previous ratio. Not many fighters knockout their opponent 2 out of 3 wins.
glentract-except they werent power shots he knocked people out with…a good counter puncher with proper technique will usually knock someone out too.(lyoto is all counter punch fighter) if you want an example of just pure power carwin and IGOR are the references I would try making a point with.

I bet he lifts from time to time. And I’m sorry, sardines, but strength does play quite a role in punching power. Heavyweights knock each other out left and right, but lightweights rarely get a knockout, even though they usually have as good or better technique.
i guess u havent seen pacquiao vs hatton

if you can understand the concept of percent you can understand 531… people looking at a program seeing they have to do math and saying its to complicated

And if that’s too hard for you, buy the damn ebook and use the tables in there. It’s only $20.
I learned to lift using a % of my 1rm, so 5/3/1 wasn’t a big adjustment for me.
ill chip in too. I started using 5/3/1 due to its incredible simplicity. It takes virtually no thought to program month to month which lets me spend a little more time focusing on things like mobility, power and conditioning. I would be curious as to what is simple and effective in comparison.
