Ah this is fucking bullshit.I have read most of the series and it is jack reachers character and persona that makes the books worth reading. His stature/size plays into how other characters in the plot react in relation to him. They couldn’t even get someone who is six foot dead? This is going to be butchered.
You have a good point there. In the books his size does make a difference in some ways. Sure you can change that for a movie, but it’s even more work than you’ve done already if you know what I mean.

Yep if they have Reacher running like Cruise always does ( and I saw The Firm a couple of months ago and Cruise runs like some goofy junior high kid) it’ll be weird. Like having James Bond say he doesn’t drink, or that he want to have sex with another man…which Cruise as Reacher may very well do.
Well his mother was European so maybe Reacher has a less provincial view on man sex than most of the marines I have ever known.
Its not even his look that bothers me its more the attitude. And for me this is for more figures than just Reacher. Bond for example I loved Connery and I liked Brosnan.
If this film could have been made years ago …heh before it was written…I would have loved a Clint Eastwood.
I hope the new book takes a turn though. Beating up Cornhusker football players just didn’t do it for me like international drug dealers trying to get old air force smack.
Reacher was an Army MP. Not a Marine.
Heh you are correct sir…its his father that was a marine I think? However I think my point though made mainly in jest is still the same.
On another note anyone that likes these should give the Robert Crais books a try. Couple of main series. Elvis Cole the world’s greatest detective who used to be a ranger. And the Joe Pike series who is a character in the other series an ex recon marine and military contractor.
Also James Lee Burke is very strong, but a lot more societal issues(racism, sexism, power and violence) in his work. He started as and I don’t mean this is perjorative because I mostly read genre fiction anymore a serious writer and it carries over into his mysteries.

This is just a bastardized version of Mission Impossible and running dont forget the running. Cruise has to run fucking somewhere in a scene.
No worries. Just my knee-jerk reaction. And I’m just getting into the Cole/Pike series. Especially after reading The Sentry. Good read.

For those of you who are Jack Reacher fans, I bring you sad, sad news…Tom Cruise has been cast as Jack Reacher in the film adaptation of One Shot.
I have no words to describe my dismay at this stupidity.

Un-fucking-believable.
Seriously. You have to be effing kidding me!
Yep and next they are going to redo The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, staring Tom Hanks as the steely eyed curly haired goof Angel Eyes, Seth Rogan as The Bad, and the Ugly Cameron Diaz cause you have to have a female lead in a Hollywood movie.

But seriously, Kevin Durand is the obvious choice to play the Reacher.
Agreed! He’s tall, about 250 and mean looking. He could also speak French, which I think Reacher can.
Kevin Durand is a damned versatile actor to boot. I knew you’d agree - we’ve had this conversation before. I remember 'cause you’re the only other person on this site who has given Kevin Durand his due…

Agreed . I’ve been trading the books about that long also . If I had to pick a “popular” actor I wouldn’t mind Jason Statham. To me it seems it could pull off Reacher’s stoicism . Or maybe even Hugh Jackman a little bulked up.
I could handle an app six foot guy.
To me the height was never the main focus for wolverine and Jackman was okay as him. He’d be better than Cruise, haha!
I introduced my mom to this series and she loves it, as does her friends. She was excited briefly when I said they were making a movie about the character. That feeling went away when I mentioned Tom Cruise would play Jack Reacher.

You know what, Tom?? I don’t like you. Nope. Not at all. Tom Cruise is a GOD!!! Stop hatin on Cruise!!!
And Kevin Durand is the first person I initially thought of for the role.

Couldnt remember this guys name but I agree he has the acting ability and look, BUT this guy has yet to play the lead in a big movie. Fucking Crazywood was just going with name recognition, so this movie will be rebooted 4-5 years after Cruise fucks it up.
I have that affect on people. Haha! I don’t know who Durand is, but many here thinks he would be fine. I’ll check him out.
I remember when the Anne rice weirdos were up in arms over his casting as Lestat. I thought he did ok. But I hate Anne rice and her starting the genre of the therapy fag wuss vampire story.
It’s not like it’s anywhere near the same thing, playing a wussie touchy geeky vampire . And a man’s man genius investigator and A1 ass kicker .
