I was pleasantly surprised to find the latest Lee Child novel 61 Hours at my bookstore here in Taipei.
The new mass market paperback usually comes out in March or April, but I guess Mr. Child is working a bit faster (the next one comes out soon)
If you don’t know who the character Jack reacher is: Jack Reacher - Wikipedia
The guy is 6’5" and weighs 250 and his capacity for violence is enormous, although those he harms are nearly always villains worthy of what they receive.
So, have you read them?
I’m happy to find an author I like who shows no signs of getting tired of writing about their pet character. It’s comforting to know that basically every year he’ll write an enjoyable Reacher book for the foreseeable future.
Inevitably many people discuss who could play Reacher if they make a movie.
I usually have an ambiguous image in my head when I read novels…I may not really put a face on the character…they are the size they should be, with a hairstyle, but the facial features may never solidify for me.

I’ve read a few of them, would have to look up the names. I really like Reacher, but I think the plots are pretty damn ridiculous. Really fun and quick reads though.
I have all but two of the early ones. I like the books. Reacher starts out at 6’5 220, other than tall, is not that big. Even at 6’5 250, sure he’s larger than most, but not all that big. Consider the 5 pounds per inch estimation for figuring differences in height in body building. It is his height, not weight, that is impressive. (I think he is smaller than LankyMofo on this site.)
There is at least one instance of a body builder in the books and the author paints the ‘steroid ridden beast’ in all the best lights possible (sarcasm for the hard of reading). Often, Reacher talks about how his arms are bigger than people’s legs but that they are naturally that size, you never read about him exercising. I mean, the occasional push up and pull up would fit in the story lines just fine.
I like the books but Reacher is not much of a hero for the weight lifting crowd. Now, if you like violence, he’s your man.
As far as who might play him in a movie, they just need a tall athletic-ish looking guy.
Outside of the time he got so swole digging pools that his pecs stopped a bullet (Tripwire), I like those books just fine (except for Nothing to Lose, which got a little too preachy for my pallet).
I agree that a lot of the plots are pretty ridiculous and that the dialogue/prose can be borderline comical, but at least you know what to expect from book to book.
Plus, a greasy, dirty drifter who cleans up well enough to bang every female agent/accomplice he invariably works with is a hero in my book.

I know what you mean about Reacher not being that big, but I think that the author intends for him look impressive but just didn’t know enough that he should make him about 280 to 300lbs if he wants him to come across as looking like a thick beast.

Read the first couple of chapters, I picture Dolph Lundgren from the Punisher movie. [/quote]
When I first read the books I saw Thr Rock as he looked in “The Rundown”
The thing about the books is they’re not that great in terms of the mystery involved, but it’s just fun to have Reacher doing his thing.
Sometimes the author will go a few chapters with Reacher basically being like any other crime-solver in current mass market fiction…I need Reacher to drink coffee, eat bacon and eggs with a slice of pie and then punch through a door. Oh, then he has to buy new clothes at the oulet and throw the old ones away.
Love these books, I think I may have read them all. After seeing Taken I’ve always pictured Reacher as Liam Neeson but bigger, so I’d have to go with Liam Neeson in a movie version.
I like the Lee Child / Reacher series. You do have to suspend reality quite a bit, and there are a number of technical inaccuracies regarding the Army, but Child still pulls it off. Not sure how, but he does.
I’m a big fan of Vince Flynn also. Anybody else into thise?
