It's true homies, eagles don't roam in flocks

Are you sure your great uncle’s name wasn’t really Duncan McLeod? and used to own a big sword? and that he really isn’t still alive???

Thursday work email went out from CFO saying we only made 45% of budget in 2012, had figured this would be the case on the fact that I had only a few customer pacing projects last year, my first year. Friday sure enough got the message that I was laid off. Immediate response from 3 directors and the CIO that I reported to that they fought tooth and nail, blah blah blah, but very heart felt. Fucking upstarts. Left office around noon and went home, talked to a few of my old recruiters to get shit rolling (it was a good year) and then went to the gym to do this (procrastinating any drinking):

treadmill, 60/30 intervals 30 minutes

then a variety of curls, abs, and calve raises, just to kill time and stuff I was negligent on

Saturday:

after doing more networking/linkedin crap went and did the following:

bench, close grip 135 x 20, 185 x 10, 225 x 10, 275 and 295 x 3, 315 x 1 (first time since injury)275 x 8, post injury PR. No spotter, in rack, kept hitting the side of the rack because of bad set up

dips 5 x 15-20
hs high rows 5 x 8-10

db bench 80s x 30

nose breakers 4 x 10-20
front raise 4 x 8-10 w/45s

cable rear delt 4 x 12

took sunday to have a mental and emotional break down off

Today, empty mid afternoon gym

roll, stretch

close stance, walked out, high bar, oly style squat RAWWWW 135 x 10, 225 x 5, 315 x 2, 365/405/455/495/545 x 1, all slow decent and paused at the bottom. Haven’t done these in like 4 years, just wanted to see how they felt. 545 I took slow down because I am an old man with bad knees, but it moved very fast up. Will do these occasionally just to build up my dl.

rack pulls from a few inches beneath knee worked up to 745 x 3, equal to the PR that started my elbow and tri issues a few months ago, no problem today, and some left in the tank

tomorrow, interviews. 2 to be exact.

plan to pull something in mid 700s in June

Unfortunately I am of the Clan Cameron, much less glorious,so I am told…

I’m sorry about the layoff. Keeping my fingers crossed for a quick and good replacement position.

If you decide you’re going to pull in the mid 700s in June, you probably will. Always impressive.

Hope you get something even better very soon, your work ethic is strong

You’ll get back up again and find something soon. My wife’s boss laid her off in her 7th month of pregnancy so she’s out of a job now and we’re about to have the baby. Damned corporate assholes have no soul. At least the company could give you another option besides the laying off. Sorry to hear your situation and I hope it gets better quickly.

Lots of moving snow around today, a couple of calls and one meeting with a recruiter, then off to the gym for this:

de bench, 185 + dbl minis 8 x 3

rev grip bench up to 275 x 8

jm presses 185/225 x 10, 275 x 6

rev grip pulldown 5 x 10- 250
lateral raise 5 x 15 - 40s

up rows 4 x 10
face pulls 4 x 12

rope down/ext 4 x 10

1 arm db overhead ext 17.5 x 35, right arm only

Good luck on the job situation Pete.

Haven’t done reverse grip benches forever- always good for lots of stares at commercial gyms.

today bunch of calls, meetings with recruiters, etc. trying not to stress too much, have severance pay, savings, etc.

last meeting ran long, and my heart wasn’t into doing too much cardio, so went time efficient:

prowler on astro turf, 50lb x 40yrd sprints x 20, done in under 25 minutes, made me feel sufficiently pukey

Got to hang with my 2.5 year old while wife and 6 year old went on a field trip. Had a blast. The kid insists on every day wearing a cool t shirt (super hero or sports), pull ups, spider man underwear over the pull up but backwards (so he can see the cool picture that is usually on the butt), jeans with a belt, and batman socks.

Managed to get some recruiter work done even with him, then off this evening to TCBB.

DE box squats 375 + green bands 8 x 2, with 30 sec rest between sets

slightly elevated pulls against chains 325/415/505/545 + 200 in chains, with thick squat bar

hlr 4 x 10
ghr 4 x 10

felt good, been skimping on the mobility stuff this week, need to correct that

Nice pulling and great work on the DE Squats, that’s fast lifting.

yesterday

prowler 90lb x 40yrd 10

treadmill, elliptical 20 min each

today

benching

warm ups then 2 board 315 x 3, 335 x 3, 355 x 0

tricep just died fast there

close grips 235 x 8, 285 x 5, 225 x 15

band pressdowns and extensions about 200 total reps

band face pull 4 x 15-20

getting my bench back very slowly. a little depressing to think a little over a year ago I was tripling 455 off the 2 board, and that wasn’t even at my best

Pete,

Sorry to hear about the layoff, I misread the post about your son and thought you were the one dressing in the spider man underwear checking out the cool pic and wearing a pull-up, for a minute it seemed like you weren’t taking this too well at all (or maybe the opposite) then re-read and decided “yeah, that makes a lot more sense”. Strong as usual, nice work.

diet has sucked for last ten days, I am choking food down a couple of times a day, and then at one point binge eating. yes, I am a stress eater. today puked up nearly everything I ate during the day, see how tonight goes

commercial gym, lower work. at least I had the second place finisher in the lighweight strongman at the Arnold to egg me on (he is currently called the second strongest little guy in the gym)

front squats bar x 20, 135 x 8, 225 x 5, 275 x 3, 315 x 3, 365 x 1, 405 x 6 + 3 rep PR

RDLs, no belt 245/335/425/535 x 5, + 20 over last time

cable abs 3 x 8

knew I was short on time going in so focused on two big ticket lifts to get my raw dl up to where it needs to be 12 weeks from now.

DE bench 165 + 110 in chains 8 x 3

foot ball bar bench 5 x 10 w/225

rolling tris 5 x 10 w/70s
fat rotator bar pulldown 5 x 8-12

hammer strength incline 4 x 15
csr 4 x 6-10

laterals 30s/40s/50s x 10, 25s x 32

machine overhead ext 5 x some
machine rear delt 5 x some

pressdowns 100 reps

I like that combo of front squat RDL-
they do seem a big part of the deadlift.

nice work

prowler 90lb x 40yrd x 10

ez curls 4 x 10 w/115

hammer curls 70s,80s,90s x 6

db preachers 2 x 20 w/50

alt cable curls 3 x 15-20

wrist curls 4 x 15-20

treadmill steep incline 25 minutes

never seem to have time to do any biceps on regular days, and since my becep tendinitis is flaring up thought I would move some blood in there today

Best wishes on the job hunt. Hope you land a good one.

so pretty locked in to doing the USPA MN state meet on June 1, like last year DL only, hoping to beat my own national record. I don’t see that as an issue. So training is shifting a little bit. This will give me some more time to to rebuild by bench strength from my torn tricep.

tonight’s speed work:

DE box squats, warm ups that 415+ 140 in chains, 30 sec rest, 6 x 2

DE pulls, 315 + quaded light band 6 x 3, 40 sec rest

dumbbell shrugs, hanging leg raise, glute ham raise 4 x 10 each in a continuous circuit

That’s good to hear Pete.
