I’d suggest keeping the sprints but do them on days when no other workout is planned. Or possibly, can you swap and do your workout AM and sprints PM?
Re: your brother - was it down to stress/lifestyle or was there a congenital issue? Likelihood is that with your healthy lifestyle and oestrogen (which protects against heart issues) you’ll be just fine, but if there’s a history of defects in the family then get it checked out.
hopefully they mean no dropping the weights off the platform but it is okay to drop them on the platforms. i mean… there isn’t much point in platforms otherwise. still, some gyms do have some strange policies, indeed.
i agree with Cal about the congenital vs lifestyle thing. Might be worth checking in with a doc for some peace of mind.
sorry to hear about your brother. can be hard. i lost a brother, too, but a few years back, now.
Props for sneaking away to lift while entertaining guests (right out of my playbook - a kindred spirit!)
Don’t fret the b’day thing - though they are good opportunities to look at all the progress you have made that has brought you to this point. Oh, and again, don’t fret this one. You’ll have a whole year to worry about turning 40 I turned 40 last fall and it’s no so bad.
Gah, I have a great club to workout at but between you and Carl Darby - I am REALLY jealous of having a view of mountains for a lifting backdrop!
Cal, his lifestyle was probably a major factor but it’s a family thing too–but then we tend to share bad lifestyles as families. Scottish diet ftw!
Alexus It’s okay, he survived, thankfully! I think it was lucky he got a warning and an opportunity to improve his health. I sure as hell did! I’m really sorry you lost a brother, I haven’t yet but I fear the day I do.
It does trouble me a bit though. Then I get to the breast cancer milestone soon after this. Sheesh damn my family tree! I haven’t had a cholesterol test in a long time. My blood pressure is usually about 85/55 and my RHR is usually less than 50 bpm so that makes me feel better. Can’t let that conditioning go EVER!
Thanks NewWorldMan! This is the first age I’ve ever fretted about and I think it’s because of my brother’s heart attack. I even turned 30 twice because I mistakenly thought I turned 30 on my 29th bday that’s how much attention I paid.
snatch
95x1,0 -spent too much time on snatches already so I moved on to clean & jerks
jerks (from clean)
95x3
100x3,3,3
110x3
115x3
125x1
135x0,1 -nice miss from behind ha, first time I did that, maybe I’ll post the video
just attempting clean
145x0,0,0 <–the first attempt was really close. I’m still not sure why I missed. Probably not getting under the bar quick enough. The rest were hopeless but E for effort
Went for a 5k jog. Probably too much work for one night but I’m really stressed about a presentation thing I have to do tomorrow in front of CEO and VPs and more and I’m trying to calm down.
Tonight I really got the sense I’m getting stronger. Those 5 second pause snatches are tough but I managed a triple at 90lbs. After missing the first 135lb jerk, the second attempt felt soooo light on the clean and the jerk. That’s why I went ahead and tried 145lbs. I will get that very soon I feel!!! All of the cleans up to the 145 attempt were really easy. I think my jerks are getting better slowly. I just need to do lots of them.
yay for feeling stronger you really are making some terrific progress. congrats on a good miss behind, too. i was so freaked out about those… mostly because i was scared of my arms ripping out of their sockets… helped me a lot to realize that that almost certainly isn’t going to happen.
Alexus, my presentation went better than I could have hoped so my stress was for nothing.
I got my 145lb clean! I didn’t even try to jerk it though. My arms were pretty tired from yesterday so I only did a couple of jerks. My snatches weren’t so great because I hit my damn pubic bone again and they always seem to go to hell after that. I really need to figure that out.
But anyhow, woo! (vid)
It wasn’t all that hard either but I gave 150 a try but not even close.
The miss video is actually really helpful—I was > < this close to biting it on an OH squat the other day and realized I had no idea how to fall out of it. So thanks! Hope your birthday was fab!

Happy Birthday and Congrats on the clean!
I think I’m too immature for oly lifting. This paragraph made me giggle a little.
