It's Log!

Here’s a bunch of snatches from yesterday. They go from 75lbs to 85lbs.

Deb, on da jerks…

  1. you are dipping too low.

  2. keep your weight on the heels throughout. imagine that when you dip and drive, you butt and back is sliding against a wall…

and please for the love of God on the snatches, stop bending your elbows!! i’m getting nervous, haha. you are almost Pendlay-rowing them and then doing a hip extension.

you have to learn to relax your arms. While you shouldn’t be thinking during the lift (don’t think, just do… this sport is a game of chess), keep these pointers in mind.

In the start position: Chest up, butt down.

Ask yourself… how does the bar get from the floor to your knee? By knee extension ONLY!!! Really focus on EXTENDING THE KNEES, your arms are just hooks along for the ride. The caveat is, you have to do this while keeping your back angle the same, and keeping your chest up.

Really? Gah I can’t even feel them bending. Grrrr it’s annoying that I’m still doing that. I seem to be blind to it to make things worse.

I think my jerks are a mess. Probably because I don’t do enough of them.

There was cake?! Yay! =D

I love that commercial too. That giraffe is so cute.
He played Doyle in Criminal Minds. That man is so hot, OMG.
I have to change the subject, it’s getting hot… <3

That was one smooth miss, nice.

Good info Andy! Thanks for that!

YAY for cake!

And that miss was awesome!! Good for you - don’t be stupid like me and hurt your shoulder.

Very keen observations! I was seeing similar things. You arms a bent when you start and only straiten when you begin to yank the bar off the floor. Again, I am also seeing the bent over row position once you pass the knees (and the arms are bent too - see the 28 second mark of the vid, not your weight is also out front on your toes causing you to jump forward and even receive one of the snatches on your toes).

Not a problem though, this is easily corrected - as stated really work on keeping the chest up (As stated: chest and hips rise together by simply bring the knees back out of the way).

Coach Pendlay recommends pauses at the knee. I believe these will help address what has been discussed. You are plenty strong to get the bar over head and plenty flexible to get under the bar. My feeling is work on getting the bar to the knees in a good position, pause and then continue the lift. I am certain you know if you can get the bar off the floor into the correct position the chances of a successful attempt go way up!

At the start focus on: big chest, take the slack out of the arms, and rise up by straitening the knees while maintaining the shoulder/hip position.

I think it is great that you post the videos. In the absence of real time coaching, this is the next best thing and it provides a great record of not only your progress but an objective evaluation of the areas that need emphasis. (It also helps me as a liter to watch others and learn to evaluate form - trains my eye and help me think about the lifts and apply what I am learning too!)

Onward and upward…

Nikki and Masch, glad you liked my miss =D

NewWorldMan, thanks for your awesome feedback! I’m always tempted to only put up videos of my best looking lifts but you guys make it so worthwhile to put the bad ones up. I keep the ones that are really bad and I know what went wrong though  I was thinking about doing those pause at the knee snatches.

I really appreciate the online feedback I’ve been getting.

I’m going to lift tonight after the hockey game.

cannot relate to anything in log except the general enjoyment of cake

moar bench press and bicep curls plz kthnx

I get tempted to put only the ones I think are best up, too, but I think it is important for people to get more of a general sense. I’ve found that sometimes the ones that felt the best to me aren’t the ones that others think are the best, too :-/ It really is interesting to see the vids, though, and listen to what people have to say about them. While I do for sure wish I had an in-person coach I love the internet because you get such a diversity of opinion. Can make things feel a bit confusing at times, but gives you a bunch of stuff to try and see what seems to work for you.

It will be cool to look back one day at your progress…

I cringe to think about my earlier videos I will probably cringe at the ones that are current now

Last night’s workout was a bust…too much KFC ugh! I think KFC is on my never again list. I love the stuff but makes me feel like crap.

I warmed up and did a bunch of snatches and then said bleh and quit.

I bet it was the potatoes :stuck_out_tongue:

But it was a crazy week with a lot of stress non training so I think I did pretty good.

Don’t sweat it - life gets in the way sometimes. We all have good and bad workouts. Maybe save the potatoes for post workout

I think having them in french fried with KFC probably doesn’t help either

cake and biceps…YUM!

Love the new avi, hawt.

Sorry the KFC ruined your workout. I just said yesterday that I wouldn’t mind their extra crispy chicken, but I think I’m gonna decide against it :stuck_out_tongue:
