Muscles are poppin’. You look great deb.

Congrats on the progress with the 200 Gawgeous!

I love the idea of squatting everyday.
I <3 squats

I actually had the urge to squat today, but a) did upper body and b) planning on doing it tomorrow.
But I really want to incorporate that. If anyone tells me anything, I’ll just say “But the lovely DebraD is doing it!” <3

well…you always have feedback from us, but unfortunately for you, you’re like the best, so it probably doesnt help much! Even though I constantly bitch about my gym, I think it is motivating to go there for me rather than be alone myself. I have some comraderie with a few people, so it always is nice to get an extra boost, idea, bit of feedback, etc. Good luck finding a suitable place. And I know if I were a teen, i’d definitly appreciate someone like you as a mentor (you can convert them all to oly lifters)…maybe you’d find teaching what you know also helps you develop yourself. this was a super long cheesy rant, but I meant it! good luck!

looking nice Deb
and the 200lbs back squat looked easy… just sayin

I will be interested to follow along if you decide to do the RSR. I think a couple Oly lifters at my gym are doing that… I don’t know anything about it. Also interested to hear how squatting every day works out. I used to do that… But since I’m rehabbing joint recovery was an issue… Maybe I’ll get back to it once the movement feels more comfortable. Looks like you are progressing really well with your squats with what you are doing now.

that 200 was a really nice looking squat Deb.
I’ve tried squatting as much as 3 times a week but I can’t recover enough to do any other lifts.
Once again I have to say that you would be great in competition. Twice a month with a club to supplement your training at home would go a long way…not just for technique but to be around like-minded athletes.

Woot wot! Awesome training in here my dear! You made that 200 squat looked so easy. Good shit!

Now that I’m on the reg training, I’m also starting to squat 3x a week. I don’t think i’ll have a problem with recovery since i normally do a lot of output throughout the week, but i do need to come up with a good plan, esp since i’m still in season and what not. If you get a good training plan, let me know!

And of course, looking stellar! Muscles are poppin’!

I am really surprised how good it actually feels. I thought it would be killing me. The lifting has gotten so much easier too. But I’m afraid to take a rest day and feel all the doms now lol.
I think if you keep the reps low (per Coach Broz) you don’t get the lactic acid build up that leads to the soreness.
Though Coach Broz also advises IF you take a day off from squatting then don’t go to an absolute max the next day. But I’ve only squatted Sat/Mon/Tue/Thur with no ill effects from no squats on Sun. or Wed. - I suppose this ‘squat everyday’ thing is easier when you have a rack and barbell in you own house (no trip to the gym) - I suspect you can probably get a good squat workout in under 25/30 minutes.

This made me think I may pose this question to Coach Pendlay and see what he thinks of daily squats.

/onward and upward…
A couple of times I was feeling too tired to workout but then later decided to just do squats and so just going downstairs for half and hour and they’re done makes it easier for sure.

I’d be interested in hearing what he has to say too!

teehee

Nikki =) Training this much, especially all the squatting really does feel like I’m doing something naughtee but that’s part of why I was never big on keeping a log since in the past I was running 40 miles a week plus training 5-6-7 days a week and you’re just not supposed to do that.

(I’m only running 3-4 days a week now and for only 5k at a time…)

I can feel my legs but not in a doms kinda way but in a I know I’ve been squatting a lot way. My skin is really tight and a bit tender around the side of the top/middle of my quads and don’t know what the hell that is all about.

TPD, there are no teenage girls at my gym outside of the cardio machine section! There are a few female trainers that are competitive athletes though so it’s not all that bad. It’s kind of cute to see one of the female throwers showing a really little guy who’s at eye level with her chest how to squat. But from what I’ve seen there isn’t much interest in the oly lifts here, sadly.

Frenchie thank you. I think I could go heavier but I seem to lack the guts to push really hard. I’m working on my grunting!

Alexus, I would like to but I also think I should put more effort into snatching and c&j. Maybe I’m putting too much into squatting right now, but my confidence in the other lifts grows when my squat does.

Diana, I do hope to get into some sort of club. I’ve sent a message to the head of the BC weightlifting association and I hope he has some suggestions. I’m looking at a lot of travel! I hope at least I can get to some workshops or clinics. It bums me out when I see training sessions online how much better it would be to be in that environment.

Masch! I am terrible at following plans  I always just make it up on the fly. Probably not the best I admit! I’m liking my muscles lately. (Except my fave button up shirts from last year aren’t fitting around my back anymore.)

Last night was a fairly light workout. I started waaay too late and then I had to contend with hunger.

Today I haven`t worked out yet but I did a run longer than I should have. I was enjoying it too much and kept going.

my confidence in cleans goes up when my squat goes up, hear you on that. but, yeah, squats can be hard to recover from. right now i’m enjoying training the Oly lifts so often and had to cut back on upper body vertical / horizontal / push / pull because i couldn’t recover well enough doing them with the Oly lifting. so just Oly lifting and squatting for me. rediscovering squatting, too, rather than going balls to the wall with them. though… think there will be a time in the not so distant future where i’ll need to suck it up and proritize them. i hear you on the thinking too much, too. sometimes best not to think about it. 80 is pretty darned good, though, and you got it for 1!

I think I’m having more wins with the squats and that’s why I’m liking them but I suppose I should be working on the things that I’m lacking!

Yeah the thinking thing totally messes with me. Once I miss badly I have a hard time getting the groove back.

Here’s a couple at 75lbs and one at 80lbs, this time from a front angle. I might be getting carried away coming off the floor. Hopefully with more weight that will go power the bar?

looking really good, girl!

i think different people have different notions…

Somebody (forget who, sorry) says ‘slow from the floor’ is wrong and you should aim for fast off the floor. that it only becomes slow when the weights get really heavy but the person is still using a lot of force to get it to move at all.

On the other hand, i’ve heard that the first portion of the lift is never limiting (because you always can deadlift more than your max squat or clean) so the pull portion is only about maneuvering it into the power position and so you do indeed want to ease it up slowly from the floor so it starts to gain momentum then really explodes from the power position. I’m not successfully doing this - but this is what i’m aiming to do.

bacon and snatches.
perfect log

People here love unorthodox people… look at me!
It’s not like we’ll gather up the town with pitchforks and chase you for running and training a lot

I’m clueless about Oly but I can still enjoy the vids heehee

@ Lex, “think there will be a time in the not so distant future where i’ll need to suck it up and proritize them.” it makes perfect sense to me to capitalize off any gains you’re currently having, so if your squats and cleans are getting stronger, you should totally roll with it - clearly you’re doing something right! I’ll go over to your log in a bit and opine there. I hope I remember what my point is! HAH!

Deb your snatch looks great! giggles Seriously. And I agree, if you can pull with speed from the ground, that’s awesome! As the weight gets heavier it will inevitably slow down, so the ability to pull fast from the get go is good.

Im fact, i think you should really put some weight on the bar (not that you don’t! but for you it looks light) and see just how high you can get that bar up from the floor. I think that might also teach you how to drop under the bar better, which you do it great as is! But i think the weight is light enough for you to muscle it up. I wish I could see the vid in slow mo, but to my completely newb eye (lol!), it looks like the bar gets away from you at the top. Remember to keep your arms loose and let that bar travel up your body. Once it gets just over your breasts, beat it!

Anyways, you rock! Keep up the great work!

Had an awesome breakfast I had to share…

I also had 4 hard boiled eggs that I ate while I was cooking.

haha Nikki

I read this quote from Donny Shankle this morning:

“The word recovery is an evil word used by individuals who have no confidence in themselves. It is a word that has no place in a weightlifters vocabulary…”

This is good because it validates my inability to show moderation

Thanks Masch! =)

I’m going to try some heavier weights and see what happens. I have a HUGE psychological barrier when it comes to the weight. It’s silly. I have to trick myself sometime by using the little plates and not adding it up but as soon as I figure it out I can’t do it. It’s maddening! I had to trick my deadlift way back when I was doing those the same way lol.

I need a recording of Koing’s lifting sessions where his brother is yelling “HEELS! COME OAN! YES! DO IT! HEEEEELS! YEEEES!” to play while I’m lifting

I heard back from the head of BC Weightlifting and apparently there used to be a weightlifting club at the school down the street and one of the teachers ran it and he still teaches there. I’ll have to try and contact him and see what he says. Also, he (the guy I spoke to from BC Weightlifting) puts on sessions most Saturdays at a Crossfit about 90 minutes away that I can attend any time. So not the most ideal but not entirely hopeless either. I’m going to have to move if I want more involvement than that with a club unfortunately, at least for now.
