It's a Dog's life

I’m finding that you have to do it over and over again too. You can’t go max weight all the time. Sometimes you gotta back off a bit and work reps to fill in the holes and build up the strength from the bottom, rather than the top. Bit of an ego-buster.

Great advice…nice going doggie.

Yeah, getting over the desire to skip filling in the holes and building from the bottom is one of the things I learned with age.

One of the good things about some commercial gyms too. Everyone is using the little weights.

Going snow boarding for the first time in my life tomorrow, wish me luck…

30 November 2008
First time snow boarding. Boarding went better than I expected, I had the expected falls and face plants (one even got an “awesome crash!” comment from a college age girl), but I also was able to put together some long runs and glides with some success at maneuvering the board to go where I wanted it to go.

Today, I’m feeling the multiple crashes and all of the up and down (ever tried to standup with your feet strapped to a five by 1 foot board?) Taking extra fish oil today but have avoided the OTC pain meds. Wado class tonight might be interesting…

The trip up and back from Keystone yesterday is a story in and of itself: going up took twice as long as it should have due to blowing snow, slick roads and the alternate route via Loveland pass being closed. Coming home was worse, two hours to go the six miles between Keystone and I-70 only to find out that I-70 was closed. So we turned around to go the long route thru Breckenridge, over to Fairplay/Southpark and over Kenosha pass.

This turned into 4 more hours of torturous driving through ground blizzards going from a dead stop because you couldn’t see the road or the car 10 feet in front of you, to driving 20 mph tops because the road is covered with black ice. Once over the pass, the snow and wind stopped and it turned into a regular drive. 6 hours to drive 90 miles going the back way. I found out this morning that the road between Fairplay and Kenosha was closed for the night and morning just after we made it through.

That brings back memories. Not about snowboarding, I’ve never done that, but the wonderful fun driving in the Colorado mountains in the winter.

Solid looking workouts.

Heard it was bad, but didn’t know your snowboarding had done that much damage.

Yep - the snow was flying everywhere and the wind… let’s just say I had red bean chili for lunch!

LOL

My body is rebelling in more ways than I can count tonight and on top of the aches and pains, I’m coming down with some kind of crud my daughter brought home from college over Thanksgiving. I’m not going to inflict it on Wado class tonight. Time for a rest and early bedtime.

Damn, and I just was talking about our little flurries down here. Hope you have a quick recovery.

Had a late running meeting today, just got home too late to train. Just as well since I’ve catching the crud my daughter brought home from college, dizzy, feverish, swollen/sore throat… I think I’ll work frm home tomorrow, should have today.

Hope you get better. Sounds like you’ve got what I am hoping to get rid of if I can just cough it all out.

Get well quickly.

On the bright side, you get a day off from work…

Just getting over mine… been 6 days, still hacking up a lung but my energy seems to be returning.

Damned kids, always brining home the latest and greatest bugs. Snowboarding sounded like fun, always wanted to try that. Get better soon Dog.

Thanks skid, but no day off I’ll just work from home at least part of the day.

Yep - from kindergarden on. Snowboarding was much fun and we’re looking forward to the next time after we’re both over this crud.

The snow board trip: You are INSANE!!!

The creeping crud: Kick it fast!

D’oh!

I’ve thought about learning to snowboard next time we visit my in-laws (the ski resort just up the hill from where they live offers three days of lessons, equipment and lift tickets for under a hundred dollars – we tried it for skiing and it was fun, but I was looking at snow boarding next).

Thanks for the example.

As for the crud, seems like everyone has it. Wife just slept twelve hours last night. I woke up this morning and realized I had poured myself some Nyquil and then fallen asleep before I could take it.

I went from sleeping 12 hours to being wide awake last night. So I went to work this morning and was exhausted after the first hour. Came home and have been cycling between freezing and sweating with occasional dizzy spells but not able to lie down and sleep. I hate this crud!

OK ok I’ll stop whining now (although every dog has to whine now and then…)
