That is neat. The first thing I ever noticed about my wife was her roundhouse kick.
Now that’s a helluva courting ritual![/quote]
Ahh, now I’ve got to tell the whole story …
I first met my wife while doing ne waza with a Ju Jitsu black belt. Dave Luth (I’m not sure how to spell his last name) was strong, 5’8" and about 180 lbs, probably 5% bodyfat.
I’m afraid I gave her only five seconds of attention before pretty much ignoring Wally’s attempt to introduce us. Gorgeous blond + Wally = no competition for ne waza (ne waza is another word for matwork, the “wrestling” part of Judo).
The next time someone tried to introduce us it was, again, in the context of Ju Jitsu, this time a Ju Jitsu instructor, Billy Joe Allgood, who got a karateka (Bob Smith) to help him. They threatened me with violence if I didn’t come to a party with them.
Since it was only a karate work out I was giving up, I went with them. I saw Win’s roundhouse kick and was entranced. These days I’m just infatuated. (Gorgeous blond and no Wally, obviously a different equation).
From a short clip about myself I posted at http://adrr.com/bengoshi/001.htm – a lot different from my main page at http://adrr.com/
It was a tough testing on Sensei. Only 4 of 7 passed their belt exam. My wife and I passed and two lower ranks passed but a kid testing for his brown and two others failed. Unusual - Sensei doesn’t ask anyone to test unless he believes they have the ability to pass.
Congrats to you and your wife Soldog!
You’ve worked very hard and your efforts are being rewarded.
I hope the weather is still holding and you can get outside for a few more weeks.
Thanks mday
Haven’t been able to get outside between the weather and work.

Hey! Congrats to you and your wife on passing!
As to the others - one may have the ability, but neglect to summon the will.

Thanks!
Loss of focus or maybe just a lesson for the younger ones…
Again, well done soldog!

Thanks streamline!
I’m looking forward to getting my blackbelt again 25 years after getting my first. My estimate is 2010.
Must be great having your partner involved as well. I have zero doubt you will be wearing the blackbelt within your time frame. Stay strong brother!

Congradulations to the both of you. Sounds like an excellent Sensei. Unfortunately, it’s rare to see schools actually fail people now days. Makes it more meaningful for those who do pass.

Glad you made it.
Hey, that’s cool Soldog! Nice job! I’ve found a karate studio in town recently and have considered joining.
Thanks guys!
Today I enter my 48th year, spending the day at work just like many other birthdays. We’ve got a couple more weeks of 7 days a week work before submitting our final revision. Then I hope to get back to some real training.
Happy b-day soldog. Hope you can have a good one inspite of work. I’m chasing you hard on those birthdays!
Happy Birthday! May each one be more than a progression of years.
48, a new belt…again, and the end in sight. Things are looking good. I would give you wonderful insights into what 48 is like, but I can’t seem to remember that far back.
Happy birthday, dog. Only 2 more years and all the secrets of life will be revealed to you. Have a good one.
Best wishes, Sdog.
Thanks guys! It occurs to me that I may have created a misunderstanding by phrasing things the way I did.
This was my 47th birthday and I think of it as starting my 48th year with no end in sight. I’d rather think of beginnings than endings. So, hel - I guess I have 3 more years until all secrets are revealed.
