It's a Dog's life

Happy birthday and a late congratrs on the belt! There was a 47 year old guy at the meet late week who deadlifted over 600lbs raw.

Ah, well 47 is even better. 47 is a prime number you see.

Had a chance to get any training or riding in, Soldog?

Stay prime Soldog, stay prime

Come back and I’ll tell you a few of the secrets.

Sorry guys…

I don’t have much time to call my own until the final proposal revision is submitted. The current due date is Nov 7 but that may slip again because of the lingering effects of hurricane Ike on the Houston people doing the evaluation side of things.

Still been doing 12-16 hour days and trying to help around the house as much as possible since my wife is going through mid-terms and a bunch of other stuff right now.

I did get to Wado class last night but that didn’t turn out so well. I overreached on a kick and came off my support foot. Landed on my right hip and shook up my system pretty good. So my back is out of kilter a bit now and I’m not moving so well.

I’m still trying to keep up with what all of you are doing - even if I don’t chime in as much as I used to…

Oooh…sounds painful. Happy belated B-Day Doggie

Time to rescue this thread from the bottom of page 2…

Finished up the proposal work with 34 days straight work. The last two weeks were brutal and there was nothing left in the tank for any training. The best I did was take the stairs all the time, even going so far as to use the bathroom three floors down.

I spent the day yesterday drinking beer and today revovering. This evening I’ll go to karate class for the first time in about two weeks. Tomorrow I’ll figure out how to start back with the iron.

Couple of things I’ve been thinking about because of the posts I’ve been reading but not taking the time to comment on.

Weight set points: I believe that I’ve found mine. Everytime (well at least twice now) I drop the exercise and strict eating patterns, my weight jumps to 190. Now if I can just get it there without my waist getting bigger.

Cholesterol: exercise and fish oil have brought mine from a total of 250+ (hdl=29) down to 170 (hdl=90). That hdl number seems unrealistically high. I’ll need to check it again in a few months. Triglycerides went from over 300 to 120. I’m taking 6 grams of Costco fish oil a day now and for awhile there I was taking 18 grams.

Soldog,

If you have good insurance ask your doc to put you on Lovaza. This is prescription grade fish oil. It runs retail at $170/month but if your insurance has copays it’s the best stuff.

You take 4 capsules a day. It lowers triglyecerides, plus we all know about the other benefits of fish oil.

Now that my triglycerides are 120 (if I’m remembering correctly) they are well in the good range.

That Costco stuff is good news.

Glad your triglycerides are under control.

Welcome back, dog. Glad to see, er, read you again.

Good to have you back Soldog. I hope the work project was a success.

How much snow do you guys have already? What I heard last week, the mountains and the plains got hit pretty hard with snow/wind. Did you guys get any of that?

Thanks all

mday - we had about six inches of snow mid-October but not much since. The central mountains seem to be doing OK but the Front Range is dry. That last storm went well north and missed us.

Good to see ya back Dog!

Cholesterol is a bummer. I was prescribed Lipitor at age 34 and it pissed me off to no end-- that’s when I decided to start training again (and reduce stress). I was on for a few months and the numbers came down, and then quit taking it (to my doctor’s dismay). He told me he couldn’t make me take it but he wished I would. I brought the numbers down further with diet/exercise. I’d rather spend the money on gym memberships and whey than pills.

Best of luck to you.
