Wado-Kai

Great deadlifting and good luck getting your brown belt.[/quote]

Thanks eco!

Wado-Kai, I’d heard of Wado Ryu before.

Neat, what kata are you doing?

Knock 'em dead.

Basai is the brown belt Kata in this style. What is really interesting/confusing, I learned an americanized version of Shotokan in the 80’s and am now re-learning the kata in Wado style after a 20 year hiatus.

Basai was my favorite tournament kata.

Knock 'em dead!

You are a Soldog of many talents. I don’t recall your ever commenting on any relation between lifting and your martial arts: anything worth noting?

Not directly, but being 50 pounds lighter has helped me regain much of the speed I had 20 years ago.

On that note, I’d better get off my chair and off to the gym.

A little late but great deadlift PR soldog. Always nice to put your weights to full use.

Thanks mday - I’m looking forward reaching 390+ since that will mean I need another set of big wheels…

Been busy and haven’t kept up on all the threads. Great lifting and nail it on your belt test.

Thanks hel! I’ve been busy as well. The lifting is being sidelined for a while right now. I’ll be doing enough to maintain (hopefully) and hitting the stationary bike enough to keep some endurance, like today’s session.

The belt test should be nailed, sensei told me to slow down last night 'cause I was going to hurt myself (he probably saw me grimace on one of the faster snap kicks that always hurt the back of knee) and then went to tell the class that I always give the max and that I’m over achieving when he tells the class to speed up and kick/punch harder.

A bit of an ego boost - must stop now before I break my arm patting myself on the back. (I’m also the oldest one in the class). Starting over in the art has been fun esp. since the importance of the actual belt is minimized 'cause I’ve been there before.

Your doing a great job. Nothing wrong with a little self pat on the back. Looking forward to reading your post this coming monday.

Thanks eco! We won’t find out the results of the test until class Monday evening. And I realized that I hadn’t mentioned that my wife is also testing for brown. 20 years ago she had just achieved brown in our old dojo went we moved out here to Colorado.

A little after work stuff:

40 minutes of hills on the stationary bike, level 10. No sprints just maintaining cadence between 90-100 rpm.

This is one of the company facilities I haven’t used much and hadn’t noticed the ceiling height until I almost put my head through the overhead lights in the drop ceiling on my first pull-up trying as usual to touch my upper chest to the bar.

Pull-up 2x5 BW

Went to work for the morning, then testing which went well. Had a hell of a workout as the intensity always goes up. Took it easy sparring and went more defensive since I didn’t want to risk a black eye 10 days before our customer face-to-face Orals. We’ll hear the results on Monday.

Working from home the rest of the day and back down the hill tomorrow. No breaks until after Halloween.

I’m sure you tested great. Awesome accomplishment, way to go soldog!

That is neat. The first thing I ever noticed about my wife was her roundhouse kick.
