Spent the better part of the day flipping pages doing book check of our proposal weakness response submittal today. Got home starving and too late to do any lifting. But the good news is that we’ll get a 3 day weekend coming up before having to prepare our final proposal revision and get ready for Orals (face-to-face meeting) with the customer in late October. I the weather is nice I’ll get at least one ride in on Friday and maybe a second on Sunday. Then it’ll be back to long hours and no breaks…
Soldog, with the type of engineering you do, how long does the sales process take? I can expect it really varies with the scope and size of the project.

Mostly government contracts and you are right - it depends on the size. This current one had a Request for Information in August 2007, a draft Request for Proposal released in Feburary 2008, Proposal submit 30 June and anticipated award the end of November. The award may slip because of the hurricane impacts in the Houston area. Of course the total value of the award could have 3 commas in the number. Other ones I’ve worked could be complete in 60-90 days, those would only have one comma in the value number.

Good info. Here I am fretting over an order with someone in Shanghai, that only has a sales time of a matter of days… Maybe I’ll not fret as much.
Of course in this economy we fret over the 1 comma orders.

Sorry for the hijack.

NP on the hijack, and any order is a good order. All of them keep people employed.

Still biking a lot? Hows the shld feeling? Your squats are looking good.
Haven’t biked since the big ride September 5th because this proposal work hit. I’ll get out on Friday and maybe Sunday since I actually get a weekend off.
So far, so good on the shoulder. I can bench and am slowly working up in weight. Push-ups are still a problem as are OHPs with a bar. Day-to-day pain and irritation in the joint while working on the computer is gone.
Thanks for the comment on the squats. The weight does keep going up and I believe that I maintain form (as long as I focus). My goal is to continue to add 5# a week thru the end of the year.

And there it was, the “f**k it deadlifted 325” phrase I was looking for ! Great job SD, you’re really stepping it up these days, surprising yourself like you said. That’s always a great feeling, keep it going.
Changed the rep scheme around and went for heavy singles.
Dead-lifts
135#2x5
225#x5
275#x1
295#x1
315#x1 335#x1 PR
335x0 Got it off the ground, felt my legs get ahead of my lower back which then rounded, so I called that one off. Stood up and everything went grey and spun around. So, I said ‘enough is enough’ I’m riding tomorrow…

Now THAT’s a good DL attempt!
Or an indication of over-reaching, which is a technical term for “time to take it a bit easier.” I used to get that toward the end of a 'Rock,Iron,Steel" cycle when doing cleans and presses. I’d get the bar to my shoulders and grey out for a sec. That’s when I’d do a light week and then go back to it.
You’ve been working long high-stress hours. Your adrenals are probably cooked. Might be a good idea to dial back for a short while before it gets done for you.

I’m slowly going through these forums, trying to catch up on where everbody is coming from. Today I read this one. You’ve come a long way in just a little over a year. I do hear “but I don’t lift as much as you do” too much.
We could all be saying to you “but we can’t ride that long uphill, much less at those elevations”. Athletic accomplishments are all relative, and the best yardstick to measure yourself against is yourself.
(This is of course why I spend endless hours going over the weightlifting and track and field national rankings.) I love the elevation charts and topo maps of the rides you take, as well as the pictures.
I used to live not too far north of you at about 8900 ft. Ever been to the Wondervu cafe? Its suprisingly enough in Wondervu, about halfway between Golden and Nederland. That’s where I met my wife.
I had been thinking that my training needed some pullups and rows to balance all the pressing, and reading about the progress you have made, I am inspired and motivated. They are going in next week in one form or another. Intersting reading. Keep working hard.

Thanks Carl
I haven’t been up to Wondervu most of my excursions have been south of I-70.
I hear you on the “It’s all relative” and “measure yourself against is yourself” but 'tis all to human to measure against others and in this forum weights are the yardstick.
To me it’s more about a spur to continue making gains rather than a downer, so I use the yardstick to beat myself… (oh, sorry - wrong forum, he he he he)
Spent some time on the bike taking it easy per Skidmarks suggestion.
2h 10m time out
1h 50m ride time
11.5 miles
6.4 mph avg
1h 50m ride time
I was really sucking wind today, but I did hit a new high mark on the heart rate: 181 Beats per minute. According to that stupid formula (Max HR = 220 - age) my max heart rate is 173, which means I died out on the trail today 'cause my heart burst.
I took the camera hoping to get some shots of the Aspen fall colors but there weren’t any good views and the skies clouded up making everything grey and dim.

Okay, If thats how you motivate yourself, I’ll take it as such and otherwise ignore it. Damn I miss Colorado.
Slow and steady. You’re like a locomotive slowly gathering speed and determination as you move along. Keep it going strong Bro, you’re really going to surprise yourself. Stay strong, live long and ride hard! That’s ride the bike hard by the way.
Spent all weekend trying to take care of all the stuff that went by the wayside over the last three weeks and attempting to look forward over the next three weeks.
Gonna be busy. Sensei told me on last Wednesday that I’m testing for Brown belt on this coming Saturday. Not a problem but I’ll have to fit in work around that and I can’t afford to miss class this week like I’ve done the past few.
So I guess I’m taking an enforced break but I’ll still make time to train once or twice a week. Will probably go to a full body type session and stick with higher reps.
