Upon reviewing this video – and maybe I am just worrying too much, but – it looks like your hip action is basically shifting from a kyphotic to lordotic spine position, all while under a heavy load. I wonder if this will be a sustainable technique in the long run. Perhaps we need to reconstruct your form a bit after this meet.
I was actually thinking the exact same thing. It would be better if I had a sustained back arch throughout with the same hip action.
Yeah, that was fugly. I get the impression that you got the right mentality to become a good PLer, but will waste precious time by training hard with crappy technique, making slower than needed progress and/or getting injured. That approach seems to work only for chemically assisted 350+ strongman. You remind me of myself a bit in that regard.

My advice, learn proper form on the big 3 (minus bench) before training them hard. If you can’t figure it out by yourself (likely), seek people IRL who are technical sound lifters and can teach (perhaps even Olympic WLing coaches).

I’m pretty sure you won’t listen, but yeah…

Paused Squat:
45 10x
135 5x
185 5x
225 5x
275 3x
315 5x
315 5x
315 5x
315 5x I did all the sets up to this point in chucks.
315 5x Went back to my oly shoes that I usually use. I think I still like those better. Flat shoes didn’t feel any harder, and it actually didn’t feel any harder to hit depth either. It did bend me over a bit more though, and I could feel the extra strain on my lower back. So oly shoes it is.

Squats:
225 6x
275 5x Just feeling my form and checking depth and everything. Felt like I coulda jumped through the roof with this so that’s a good sign.

Anyway, I got my 5x5 goal of 315 paused. Chia mentioned the other day that the meet I wanna do is only like 5 weeks away, and I was like “Oh shit lol, I need to stop fucking around and squat something heavy.” So we’re gonna throw on some wraps soon and make sure I feel out weights over 4.

Unilateral Leg Press:
5 sets of 10

Walking Lunges:
bar for a couple long walks
135 for 3 shorter walks

Do you still like the wider stance that you were using a few months back?
No lol, funny you should ask that. I’ve gone back to a regular stance, but now I am turning my feet out instead of having them straight ahead. This is achieving pretty much the same goal of helping my lockout a little bit.
I have heard that turning your feet out a bit allows for greater glute activation which may aid lockout. If I hear it from one more person, I am going to try it out haha.

As for the form stuff, I am not sure what to make of that form. Let me have more thoughts on it tomorrow, and I will see if I can track down some good JL Holdsworth and Mark Bell stuff that comes to mind. (I have to double check before I say anything too, I don’t want to misquote them. I will post the videos if I find them and they are relevant.)

Watching that deadlift video really illustrates how different two people of similar size (you and I) can be.
I cringed at the roundness of your back but, only as it applies to me. If I were to round like that I’d be on the amtrak to snap city.
I’ll have to make a deadlift vid (even though my weights are embarrassing) to display the difference. You can see it in my dip video.

I’m 190 lbs at 5’8", pretty damn stiff with a tiny frame, long torso and short limbs. You look to be about the same size (albeit leaner), have a large frame, be rather flexible, have long limbs, and a short torso. It’s really quite fascinating!

Oh, and good luck at the meet!

Csulli, how is that overhead press of yours doing? Go check out my log in a few hours if you want to see how mine is doing.

What? Is it the title, the Paul Carter inspired assistance/accessory work, or that I’m still out pressing you guys?

Also nice work on training, I see you finally did some farmer walks.

Not quite yet youngling! Although I must redouble my efforts; I fear I am yet losing the precious little remaining ground.

Youngling sounds alot like Yuengling
walks towards fridge

Not sure if you are necessarily in a bad spot with form on DL. Your form may just be exaggerated when your hips fire.

Thanks for the vid; that’s a great channel.
