It Vexes Me. I'm Terribly Vexed

Good benching, but I’m most impressed with you taking the time to put 270 on the bar, and not being to lazy/eager and just going for 275.
Lol, there’s only one weight I will not do, and that’s 310. Anything else I’ll be exact with.

Yo csulli, What is CAT Benching?
“Compensatory acceleration training”

It’s like speed work without any accommodating resistance. Josh Bryant (youngest person to bench 600 raw, trains Vincent Dizenzo, Jeremy Hoornstra, and Big Al Davis) swears by it. So I will give it a shot. I’ve never really liked any kind of speed work though to be honest.

Thanks. So after reading the article on elitefts I kind of understand what it is. I guess I can see how it helps with squats but I fail to see the carry over in the bench. It seems like it gets rid of the “coasting” part of the lift but when is that for the bench?

dem iso’s are rough. I tried them out after bryants presentation this weekend, and they kicked my ass somethin fierce.

Ready for Vinny analysis!

Your form started to get better as the set went on. Think about pushing your chest through (like you did on the fourth, and especially fifth rep). That’s a really good thing to do if you don’t want me to start beating the shit out of your overhead press numbers any time soon.

Oh, and you never get tight for it. What do you do for your squat, bench, and deadlift? Get a really fucking huge breath through your stomach, push out your abs, and brace them, right? You do that on the bench from unracking the bar to locking the first rep out, right? Try to doing that for your overhead press, and tell me how you like it.

Jim wendler also recommends getting tight for the overhead press, and to squeeze your glutes too to help getting tight… I think he mentioned people who are hard asses as an analogy… I’ll get the article later if I can find it again.

There’s really not a whole lot to be said about your pressing. You have a totally different body type than me, and one that is still quite suitable for pressing. Reason is because you get some good back bend and have some upper chest to help shoot the bar off the chest. It’s not the technique I use, but you look strong as hell like that. You can totally get a 200lb strict press with some time of training it more consistently.

Lucky you! One of my favorite online PLers.

Your pissing me off with that deadlift, i’m cathing you on all the other lifts, but your deads just keep going up. Starting to hate you, haha, Good work bro. What assistance exercise do you think helps your deadlift the most. i don’t do alot of assistance work, just alot of lift specific volume, but I’m thinking of throwing in a move on the day I do cleans, Goodmornings’ or RDL’s Thoughts

Dude, that bicep pic you had as your AVI, didn’t do you justice. You’re quite big!

Haha thank you! I love TNation. One of the few places in the world where a back pic goes way farther than a bicep pic.

Thanks man! Just gotta keep pressing the bar like Big Z says.

Thanks! The only two assistance lifts I’ve done very consistently for deadlifts have been stiff legs/RDL’s and hyperextensions. Especially hyperextensions. Sometimes with a bar behind my head, but most of the time just with bodyweight. I do a pretty high number of reps and sets. As you know, the lower back doesn’t get that much blood flow, so I always try to force as much blood to the area as I can and get a bit of a lower back pump. Gives my lower back a more “bulletproof” feeling.

Also my training partner and I went to the Record Breakers SPF meet in Gatlinburg yesterday and saw some incredible lifters. We mainly went to see one of the guys from our gym. He totaled 1475 at 198, going 9 for 9, setting a PR on every lift culminating in a 100lb total PR, and totaling elite to boot! Can’t do any better than that. It was an awesome time.

Also my friend Keith hit his goal of totaling 1200 at 165 which was great to see as well. And we met Brandon Lilly, and I got a picture with him (sorry lilpower haha)! Sam Byrd was there too, but I didn’t get a pic with him. Although I did stare at him creepily like the entire time.

Also I met Reed from TNation and his wife Kristi aka SquattinMachine from over in the Powerful Women section. Great lifting from both of them!

Also I saw this big huge fat guy bench 630 raw. He was as wide as he was tall.

Also I started every paragraph of this post with the same word.

I definitely agree with this! Not to take away from the arm pic, but the back one really made me appreciate how big you are.

Have you got any goals physique wise, or is strength your only focus? I don’t mean if you have a goal to compete or anything, but do you have say arm or thigh measurements you’d like to hit? I know you’re keen to stay around the 200lb mark.

I don’t know why but I’d love to see you do a block of GVT or something similar, I think you’d explode.

Glad you had a great time at the meet, and it’s awesome you met Reed. Seems like an awesome guy.
