It Is An Oly Lift Platform Not A Mirror!

A quick story, that you might find amusing.

Me and my friend were set on doing C & P yesterday, and made some great effort on the platform. We do long C & P training on the Oly Lift platform at our University.

Anyways, this half Asian kid or maybe he was just a really European looking Korean or something, I don’t really know. But he kept on staring at us on the C & P, in between like he wanted to work in.

It didn’t seem realistic, as he looked he never done C and P a day in his life. So I didn’t really interface with him as I was busy.

In between sets when I was wasted, I’d sit down. He comes up to me, and says 'Hey are you guys done over there?," I say “No, we’ve got a while left to go, u can work in if you want tho.”

He nods and walks away. We do some more sets and his friend enters, his friend, a more bold visor wearing frat white guy looks annoyed.

He comes up to us in between an interval, and is like “Hey man, you’ve been on this thing for like 30 minutes, you think you can let someone else use it for a little?”

I was nice, “I told your friend he could work in, what are you guys trying to do? You can deadlift or C & P in between I don’t care.”

“Man just tell us when you’re done hogging the mirror.”

I look over and his friend is sitting on the benchpress curling.

“The mirror? You mean the Olympic Lifting Platform?”

“We usally do curls on over there in front of it, thats what we do today.”

“What the fuck do you need the platform to do curls for? It’s not really a difficult movement, you don’t need to check your form.”

“O well, just tell us when you’re done…”

What a dumbass… What do you guys think?

Makes sense. Why curl in the squat rack, when you can curl on the platform? After all, you’re elevated an extra 4 inches so people on the far side of the gym can see your killer pumpd 'n swole biceptz.

I like the story, but there’s at least 4 MASSIVE threads already around about this kinda stuff. I would post this in the “Curling in the Squat Rack” thread.

Hahahahahahahha that happened to me. but this guy was str8 up and said “can we share the rack (power rack sorry not oly platform).”

SO i said “uh okay. what are you doing?”

He looks at the 225 pounds i was doing for warmups for my 5x6 squats and then goes “can you help me unload we’ll share”.

He thus gets me to unload all 90 pounds to stick on 15 pounds instead, and then Curls 3 reps. (making me spot the other 2 reps).

lol
i didn’t know people spot for curls

y and how do u spot for curls?

that like spoting for a deadlift… WTF?

Scott

well you know how u prep som1 up for a big negative? lol. i dont spot for curls that much so i was as much confused as you. he said “use your arms and curl it up with me”…

and i just felt like crying and laughing… It was a 2 man curl team. 15+15+45… thats… 75 lbs for 2 guys. woaw.

I wonder what difference it makes what ethnicity he may (or may not) have been.

Ive got something worse, I saw a guy doing Dead lifts and squats in my gym for the first time ever, the squat racks are usually a proud stage for curlers…he comes up to my brother and myself and asks to work in. I say sure…assuming he would be doing something…not gay BUT YET! he gets into the rack and starts doing Leg raises, he was really nice so I couldnt bring myself to say anything.

I was wondering the same thing.

I think we describe things like ethnicity when they are different than us or different than the majority of people you see around you.

A lot of people do that and I really don’t think it has any racist over/undertones. I believe we see what we are as default settings in our own brains and mention if it is different.

Just a thought.

^^ Maybe like when I point out which actor’s Canadian. I 'm from Canada so of course have no problem with Canadians, but it’s always a conversation piece. Same goes for gay. I see a guy somewhere and I can see that he’s gay, I tell that to whoever’s with me. I really don’t mean anything bad by that. You just have to show that you know.

I was just kinda describing what he looked like, because it adds detail to the story. Also kind of explains why I even drew any attention to him, as he was one of those brown haired light skinned korean people you sometimes see. Either that or half Asian. This detail probably stuck out in my head, because my friend said ‘who said that to you?’ After I told him about it, and I’m like that ‘white asian guy.’ Then I thought for a while about why that dude looked so white, but also so Asian after my workout.

Funny noone noticed this one, and my latent bias against people who wear visors, and people who are ‘white guys.’

I did notice that but didn’t comment any more than the Asian comment although I hate you 'cause I love my visor.

God forbid you describe the way somebody looks and you’re a racist.

He’s not racist. he just hates everyone equally.

hahahah.

i guess the logic is gravitate towards the thing that is least used for biceps and can ONLY be used for other things. so obviously if there is an Oly platform the sensical thing to do is curl on it because theres on where else to do that.

im amazed at the patience though, i probaly wouldnt have said anything and just stared back and maybe told him to go stand in the corner for what he just said.

correct. everyone sterotypes its an inborn survival mechanism. while its not the same scenario its the same function as to understand that a lion will kill you as it to think “all asians are good at math”.

i dont know why everyone trys so hard to be PC on this site, its actually quite pathetic.

btw, what difference does it make that the other guy wore a visor? what difference does it make that it was a guy? what difference does any detail in a story make? well it adds to the intrigue and visualization. so i guess for the people who found it offensive or what, in addition to taking a Psych 101 class you will need a basic writing course as well.

lol
