I had an interesting encounter today at the gym and it made me wonder. How many people have seen somebody they didn’t know and right off the bat for no reasonable explanation didn’t like them??
I saw somebody at the gym today that I immediately for whatever reason didn’t like him, he just LOOKED like an asshole. I really didn’t think nothing of it, he’s just some stranger, what do I give a shit. Anyways while lifting I could see him staring at me, but once again I didn’t really give a shit and kept lifting and assumed he must be looking at something near me or right past me, but I couldn’t help but feel like he was staring right at me. Later when leaving the gym he was leaving at the same time as me and we happened to make eye contact. As soon as we made eye contact he just turns and faces me and tries to stare me down. We were staring at eachother for what felt like hours (probably 5-10 secs at most), but the whole time he was clenching his jaw and mean mugging me.
I wanted to fkn launch on the guy and beat the shit out of him, not that I have such a short temper that if anybody looks at me the wrong way I get mad, but this guys just was really bothering me and now he was staring me down. I just stared right back at him and kinda squared up so he can see that I was looking directly at him with a “wtf are you looking at” look on my face. He then just shook his head and walked away. The funny thing is he kind of resembled me. About the same height, muscular/ lean physique, short hair, hispanic. He even appeared to be a fighter.
I’ve been a boxer for most of my life and normally have absolutely no desire to prove how tough I am to anybody and have actually walked away from a couple confrontations if I don’t feel like the person is a real threat. But for whatever reason, as soon as I saw this guy I didn’t like him and he appeared to have the same feelings towards me, he was obviously a bit bolder with his feelings tho.
But what makes you not like somebody from the get go like that?? This doesn’t happen to me very often, but does anyone else have experiences like this?
He’s probably you from an alternate universe…trying to replace you in this universe! You should call the X-Files people.
But seriously, yea, I’ve had experiences like that. Just something about certain people, whether chemical (pheromones) or just behavioral, will make me hate someone before I ever get to know them.

I thought it was my dream version of me coming to my reality to take over! It’s a good thing it wasn’t, cuz my dream version of me could kick my ass!

So he had on a Tapout shirt? And you looked into his eyes?! Shit, more of a man than I am, that’s for sure…[/quote]
lol, no tapout shirt…
It’s hard to explain but I can usually tell if someone’s a fighter at first glance. Small hints, the cool confidence they carry themselves with, appear to have good situational awareness, athletic physique, knuckles a bit darker and larger than normal, light on their feet, even the way they move. It may be one of a combination of these or some other hints I subconciously pick up on, but I’ve approached a few guys kind of randomly and asked them if they box and I’m usually on the money. On the flip side tho, a buddy of mine who was a timid, shy, dorky looking guy started telling me about his wrestling glory days of when he was a state champion wrestler. I didn’t believe him, (he just looked soft and was extremely nonconfrontational), he then shot at my legs and had me on my ass faster then anyone I’ve ever seen. So I guess I can’t always tell, but I’m usually pretty good at picking up on it. lol
Next time you guys lock eyes just say “what’s up” or “how’s it goin”. Breaks the silent glares and usually dispells any hostility. He’s probably just another aggressive young guy who would describe the situation exactly the same way you did.

^ oh no doubt, and that is exactly how I would normally handle any type of situation like this. I haven’t actually been in a street fight in years and don’t like getting into it with strangers, it’s pointless and life is way too short.
The unique thing about this situation was the fact that I already didn’t like him without even knowing him and my feelings were so much so that I let him get under my skin, which is out of character for me. I know this happens to other people and it just makes me wonder. What is it that causes you to instantly not like someone, and I wonder if it’s the same part of the brain that tells you when you’re attracted to a female without knowing anything about her, I don’t mean you just think she’s hot, I mean that sense that tells you whether or not you find someone attractive for more then just their looks despite knowing very little about them. Any psychology majors here?
