I’m starting to train AM compounds PM Isolations but if I train like this how many compounds AM would you do and how many Isolations PM??
What successful bodybuilder ever trained like this?
14.5
.greg.
What? Aww man, I need to see this split!!!
ALSO 14.5
Why not just train the left side of your body during months with 30 days and the right side of your body in months with 31 days. And in February just run a marathon everyday to get your cardio in.
im a big fan of volume id go for a minimum of 39 per workout, plus a midday workout just for calves and abs
These are funny guys.
to answer your question, I would not do this AM/PM thing you mentioned, and I don’t see why you are, but if you are, good luck with it. As far as twice-daily sessions, there are articles here by Christian Thibaudeau, Charles Poliquin and Chad Waterbury, if i remember rightly, which suggest whole twice-daily routines. If you are going to follow a program, why not spend a few minutes with the search function finding these programs and then pick one?
But as far as isolations and compounds go, for me, I do more isolation-type movements for muscles I don’t have a good mind-mucle control over. E.g. I can flex biceps lovely, but triceps aren’t so good. Therefore, on a normal sort of split, on back/tris day I will do an isolation move with light weight and extreme focus on the muscle i’m targeting to start off the triceps, such as cable pressdown or tricep kickback, before moving onto heavier, more compound stuff.
There’s no mathematical amount of compounds/isolations you have to do, but i’d say that bricknyce covered this well in his ‘bodybuilding bible’ thread where I think he suggested 3-4 compound movements and 2-3 isolations per muscle group.

yeah go read the Bible
It’s 1 to 2 compounds and 1 to 2 isolation for a muscle group.

Stop making lifting so complicated. Just go in there and do it all at once. Like everyone else.
