Is Working Out Every Day Bad for You?

I am feeling a bit sore all the time, and not enjoying my workouts. Have also noticed decreased strength vs when I have a rest day, my performance is much better. Which is better?

It is possible to train every day, it just depends how you approach it.

There are a lot of people that train every day and I did it myself for 28 days straight. I think it’s definitely doable, but adjust your volume and intensity according to your recovery and how beat down or good you’re feeling that day.

Understandable. It can be harsh on the body especially while adjusting.

Hi mate
To be fair - I think you’ve answered your own question, at least for now.
You are performing better and you’re enjoying your sessions more when you include rest days. So for now, for you, including rest days is better. That’s the quick and short answer.

The longer answer is that training every day can be great however it needs a relatively sophisticated setup. You need at adjust training volume and likely your nutrition to facilitate. Taking rest days doesn’t mean the above doesn’t need looking at but the rest days do give you a little more wiggle room. For example, overreaching on the day before your rest day isn’t quite as big a deal as doing it when you have to also train the following day.

Going off your question - it sounds as though you’re new to training every day so my advice would be to look into it a bit more before continuing. Speak to some experienced guys/girls when it comes to programming to have a session every day. When I was younger I loved training that much that it took massive amounts of discipline to actually rest and more often than not I bailed and ended up driving to the gym. It only ended in me under recovering and probably missing out on loads of progress looking back knowing what I do now. I didn’t programme to take the number of sessions into account and ended up running myself into the ground over the span of about a year. Now, I could easily train every day as I know how to better programme it to my weekly workload is the same as with rest days.

Hope this helps bud

People are different.

Some dudes can only train a few times a week, other guys can handle more days. It’s not “good” to lift every day, or “bad” to only lift 3 days a week. You just have to figure out what works for you.

That said, working out too frequently is really, really bad for you.

So if you feel like shit training many days, and you feel awesome training fewer days, Listen to your body and work out as often as Feels Good.

I workout every day. Some days are simply harder effort than others.
