Is This Whey Protein Any Good?

I was at GNC last week buying some vitamins, and I picked up a 1 pound bag of whey protein from there to try it out. It has 14 scoops in it, and the manager gave me a good price on it, so I thought I would at least try it to see how it was.

Has anyone used GNC Whey and if so, how did you like it compared to others? Also, would it be worth buying the bigger containers (6 pounds) if it’s good. I bought the chocolate and it tastes pretty good. I generally use Optimum Nutrition.

Some Nutrition Information (per serving)

Serving Size: 1 scoop (31g)
Cals: 130 (25 from fat)
Fat: 2.5g
Protein: 20g
Carbs: 5g
BCAA: less than 2g

Looks like you know how to read the label, so you can make the call if it meets your needs.

Quality whey can’t be that different from one company to the next IMO (milk is milk, whey is just part of milk). That said, I personally avoid the ultra-cheap stuff.

I personally only use Biotest Proteins.

I get a lot out of this site so I try to support it!

From my experience the quality here is the best!

Not only is the quality great, and they put out great articles, and give forums for us to talk on, and then let us talk about other products on said forums without censoring out praise for other companies products (atleast to the best of my knowledge)…

Its not expensive here. Shit $25 or so for 5lbs of quality whey, thats a damn good price, and I would gladly pay that to get it from a company I trust and to support a site I have learned so much from.

But if you got a deal, ya whey is whey is whey as long as you dont get your whey from a company who buys cheap from china, then your whey is plastic and carboard

ON Chocolate Whey tastes damn good for the price and quality. I’ll probably try some Biotest Grow! Whey once I run out of my current stuff.

GNC’s chocolate whey tastes like a grave, I still have some from 2 years ago. It is that bad.

Cool, thanks for the answers so far everyone, much appreciated.

I had a question on the Grow! Whey. I was reading the label, and it said a serving size is 1 rounded scoop (26.5g), and there are 46 servings in a 5 pound container. I was reading Optimum Nutrition’s label and there are 77 servings in a 5 pound container, at 30.4g per rounded scoop.

The numbers seem pretty far off from each other with the same amount of protein. Is there something I’m missing or not understanding as to why the numbers are so far off?

I apologize for my ignorance on this matter, I just want to make sure I understand it correctly.

You get what you pay for when shopping for good quality protein powder imo.

I only use all the delicious flavors of Biotest Metabolic Drive protein.

A lot of company’s get their whey from the same place. An important part to look at is the type of whey…concentrate, isolate, etc…

I use to use a lot of optimum nutrition, I’ve used the GNC brand, I’m currently on Champion Nutrition. The chocolate Champion Nutrition tastes great. I have yet to try the Biotest Whey, although I’m sure it’s great.

I do support this site a lot. I love Flameout, Metabolic Drive, Surge, I’m sure Biotest whey is next on my list.

Money isn’t everything. This site has done much for my training and general health, and I’ll do a lot to support it.

There is a misprint on the Grow! Whey. It should be about 75 servings or so.

That’s what I thought. I’m sure it means to read 76 instead of 46.

Thanks for clearing that up Madman2.

I found this post by Mod Brian in the Grow! Whey thread:

I just recieved my GROW Whey protein, and I was curious about the servings. In the label you can pop up in the store it says there should be 72 (or 76) I forget and if you do the math and divide the serving size of a scoop into the total grams on the tub it comes out at right about that.

However, on the nutrition label, its says total servings 46, and I really just can’t see getting 70+ servings out of that tub with the size the scoop is.

Anyways, thanks for any help you can provided.

There are approximately 75 servings per bottle of Grow! Premium Quality Whey.

The current label has a misprint which will corrected on the next printing.

Hope that helps!

Yes, this helps very much Laurie, thank you for clearing that up. I will definitely give Grow! a try when it’s time to purchase more whey.

I think ON may be worthless unless your on sever calorie restriction. I use to drink tones of ON, eventually I ran out of money, so I just drank milk, and more other foods. Made better gains ON free. I don’t think ON was making me not gain, but it was making me not want to eat.

I use champion whey which have worked out pretty good for me. However, starting this month I have started switching over to Biotest as far protein is concerned. I’m actually going to rely heavily on their protein and their other line of supplements, since where i’m going I don’t have the liberty of planning my nutrition.

It will be interesting to see where i’m at strength and physique wise 6 months from now relying heavily on Biotest supplements.

That’s a pretty awesome value. For some reason I always thought it was more expensive, but 30 bucks for 75 servings is pretty sweet.

Consider me converted to Grow!
