Is The Anabolic Diet Still Sound?

The article for the Anabolic Diet is from '99. Is there something similar that takes into account PWO shakes and some of the other things learned in the past 8 years?

I responded well to the T-dawg diet which is very similar. I like the discipline of the low carb aspect during the week and the carb frenzy cheat day is pychologically very helpful (and lot of times I would only carb up one meal). I’d like to go on the anabolic diet but if I couldn’t use Surge PWO without sabotaging it, I’d have to consider some alternatives.

I’m sure the answer is in the thread
it has a lot of ‘alternatives’ for PWO …

All 189 pages of it.

So start reading.

But it seems like you answered your own question. You want to do to the AD and have a postworkout shake. So do that.

As long as you’re not haven’t carbs at other meals, you’re still following the AD and you’ll be fine.

I was hoping some helpful soul could answer my question and save me the hours that it would take to read that thread. That’s the point of a discussion forum.

Also, I’m concerned that using a PWO shake will defeat the purpose of going low carb on those 5 days. That’s why I’m asking if there is an updated version of it or if I should just eat something low carb PWO even if it isn’t ideal.

as long as the PWO shake does not make you go above the 30g carb limit, you’ll be fine.

Agreed, thats the exact same thing I said. However, that 30 gram limit isn’t set in stone. There is kind of a range, it’ individual.

That’s why I was suggesting you read the thread, I wasn’t trying to be a dick. There is a shitload of info in there along with a ton of people’s experiences on it, I go back to that thread often and reference it.

But it seems like you want to be spoonfed. To each his own.

What is your question? Many people forgo the PWO shakes on very strict cuts and feel they have better results-get leaner faster and are ultimately able to get leaner then they do keeping it.

Personally I like to keep PWO shakes when dieting except if it’s an extremely strict diet. Then I swap it for whey protein and BCAAs.
Maybe some taurine. The Anabolic Diet is not magically inferior because it’s older. It’s just another way of doing things. And some have very good results on it.

I went from 200 to 220 over the last 3 months and put on a very minimal amount of fat, if any. Also during that time my back and legs shot up in strength, everything else didn’t shoot up nearly as much… and I love the AD and will probably never come off it. But I know for a fact that I am severely carb insensitive cuz I have had lovehandles since I was 4. So I think my body was made for eating AD style…

It’s all up to your body whether it will work for u.

i would say try the AD without your normal carb shake, I got fine results using just protein and glutamine during the week for shakes, then once youve been on you can try it and see if you can more muscle with carb shakes or you gain too much fat with the carb shakes and big weekend carb ups, but you should have something to compare it too.

Of course age does not magically make it not work anymore, but as we learn more, things evolve.

I don’t want to be spoonfed either, it’s just pointless to spend hours reading that thread if someone can help me out in 30 seconds. I would do the same if I knew the answer to a question posted here. There is a hell of a lot of info on this site, and it wouldn’t surprise me to find out there was an updated Anabolic Diet that I missed. That’s why I asked.

I will probably try the diet without PWO for a month or so then mix in some Surge to see what happens.

I think this is a good call. Good luck.

I would recommend that you pick up the anabolic solution for powerlifting.

It goes into detail about how and when you should include a pwo shake and the such, i have more info if you want some? I myself read almost all of the thread, but it got old hearing the same stuff over and over,

but i am a bit hesitant to try a diet pretty much about eating a lot of fats, when i myself am not very educated on the good and bad fats and what foods should carry a lot of them you know?

so let me know if i can help you out with anything?
