If I had to accept Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth, then you fuckers have to accept Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher
HAVE TO.

No

Sorry to say it like this, but you just don’t get it. I haven’t read all of the books, like 4 or 5 of them. In each novel Jack Reacher’s size is a major part of the story. in the book the movie is based on, his size is (being able to kill the victim with one punch by breaking the neck with one punch) a major part of the story. It’s not dumb at all for fans of the novels to be upset to have the character, Jack Reacher (6’4" 250), be cast as fucking Tom Cruise. It is fucking sell out bullshit. But, I kinda still want to see it. A good movie, is a good movie.
Yeah if he’s supposed to be the modern-day Conan then Tom Cruise doesn’t work at all.

2/10 and 3/10 from people who read the Reacher books.
Yeah but what did their reviews say?
“OH He’s not 6’4 and 250!! The movie sucked!!”
There’s nothing itself on the movie. Some of the reviews that were 7/10 and above said “yeah ok he’s supposed to be this height and this weight, but on its own, the movie is great”.
So if you want to not enjoy a movie because the main character is not a towering figure, then I guess that’s your prerogative. I think that’s pretty dumb, but whatever.
Otherwise, the story, dialogue, acting, action and everything is top notch.

Saiyan’s point is that there’s a scarcity of good reviews from people who’ve read the book. If you haven’t read the books, you won’t get that it isn’t about just casting a big guy and getting the stats right.
Lee Child said he wrote Reacher as a goliath in part because the character embodied the man he wanted to be (he’s big on reinvention: Lee Child is his pen name). The stuff he wrote about “size being a metaphor” is just an attempt to spin doctor the negative reaction to Cruise’s casting from the very people who made the movie rights such a potentially lucrative prospect in the first place.

Still waiting for that ham, I bet.
Tom Cruise would’ve delivered that ham in NO time. Running, of course.
You wound me! I’ve got hams flying all over the country, I’ll have you know.

Man, I’m ALWAYS puzzled when producers cast Tom Cruise in movies. He’s got such a weird off-camera vibe (and rep), that I can’t imagine people see his movies because he’s in them.
As far as Reacher specifically, you’re always asking for trouble with a book/comic book franchise’s fans when you cast someone who’s so incongruous with the author’s description. Truth be told, though, I haven’t seen the movie.
Ahhhh
Seeing TC here makes me long for the days when he was a prodigious writer/dispenser of wisdom and humor, instead of a business executive…

He produces a lot of his own movies (like this one), so there’s that. I also don’t see how his off-camera persona matters at all when it comes to his work on-camera, unless you’re saying you don’t know why anyone would want to work with him because he’s such a quack. I get that completely. I do like most of his movies though.
I think The Rock would have been a great Jack Reacher. I think people could get over the fact that he’s not an Aryan-looking dude a lot more easily than they could get over the size discrepancy. Reacher sounds very similar to The Rock’s character in Faster, except for the running/driving part.
But then, I think The Rock should be cast in just about every action movie made because he’s fucking awesome, so I am biased.
Read thread, got book, read 1/4 of “killing floor” last night and am pleased.

I got mine. It was as big as a toilet seat. Thank you. I personally hate ham (I think they smell like a toilet seat smells, were I to smell one, a toilet seat that is), but the family said it was delicious (I guess they enjoy eating meat that smells like toilet seats).
Saw it yesterday, was really solid action film, definitely one of Maverick’s better efforts
I think the real tragedy here is all the classic Chevelles getting trashed to make this flick.

Well fuck if Tom Cruise didn’t have to wear blocks on his feet to reach the fucking pedals the cars might have a better chance!

She looks taller than him, in the background.
I won’t bother with the movie because it’s so badly cast.
