Is No Cardio Healthy?

i tried to search but didnt find anything on the first 2 pages and im lazy, im 6’3 i took the past 6 months off and i started currently bulking at 155 ive reached 180 in 2 months i gained very little fat and i do zero cardio and i do 5x5 i eat well about 200- 250g’s of protien about 3000-3500 calories i eat mostly chicken, rice, oatmeal, steak, met rx big 100 shakes, muli vitamans, fish oil, alot of water, and a shit load of whole milk about a half gallon a day.

i was wondering if it was ok health wise to continue doing this untill im ready to cut in a couple months. i want to burn as few calories as possible because i have a very difficult time gaining weight thats why i dont do cardio. sorry if this a stupid question im new to this site and nutrition

You’ll be fine. If you’re not putting on fat then other than sports specific training there’s no real need to do cardio.

by sports specific training you mean just lifting correct?

I meant that unless you’re training for a specific sport, i.e. one where you have to run, then you probably don’t NEED to do cardio.

It’s good to doo cardio for sports, and a little cardio just to keep your heart strong but it’s far from necessary.
If your main focus is bodybuilding you don’t need it maybe not even to cut depending on how good you are with a diet, how fast you want to cut and your bodytype.

You should be getting all the necessary life cardio from lifting if your lifting hard enough.

I haven’t done anything beyond walking in about 6mo. The most cardio I get is during sex and I don’t even have to do anything 1/2 the time lol

i definatly start to weez and get a little to sweaty after anything over 5 minutes in the bed

You’re a douche … you need to run 10 miles a day and eat lots of carrots … i hate you

It is definitely needed if you want optimum health. Sure, if you are “just bodybuilding,” it isn’t needed, but there are just too many health benefits that come from cardio for me to stop doing it. BUt I guess everyone has different goals.

Probably true. But for short periods of time, or even a couple months it ain’t that bad if you want to get the most out of your weight gain. 2-3 months isn’t enough to undo all the health benefits from cardio if you’ve done it regularly for a long while beforehand anyway.

But don’t you get very similar benefits from just lifting in general?

no as you can see i gained alot of wieght in two months if i was doing cardio i dont believe i would of gained half of the size that i did

agreed. If. you are trying to gain mass, and you stay relatively lean w/out cardio, then don’t do it. Not that you shouldn’t ever do it, just not during those times.

You can, (Supersets, GPP, circuit training,) but generally that’s not the point of anerobic exercises.

i just recently started to add cardio (boxing) into my routine, and ive seen nothing but great things. strength is going up and my abs are getting cut. i dont do crunches though… just a lot of footwork and thousands of punches to the heavy bag.

i say get in at least an hour a week. moderate to high intensity.

How “on topic” of you. Very “up to date” (in regards to T-Nation threads).

What can I say … when you’re good you’re good … and me, I’m good

i think if you do some cardio it will improve the way your body works all around! you will be able to pump more blood to the muscles you are exercising! all in all you will be more efficient!

I wouldn’t go as far to say this. Cardio is important for a cardiovascular health and to strengthen the most important muscle in the body - the heart.

Depending on how you look at it, its not ‘needed’ but its wise to do some regularly.
