Is Alcohol Counterproductive?

I just don’t know if i can trust someone who wouldn’t drink a beer with me… it seems so unamerican

Some of the posters on this thread are those guys in the gym on Sat night at 9pm looking around thinking…

“I am so HARD CORE…I am gonna get all the chicks.”

News flash - girls like guys that can unwind and have fun…and maybe /shudder/ a cocktail or three.

What a boring life it would have been. Believe me, I had fun when I wasn’t drinking, but the stories and experiences that I had at parties, I wouldn’t trade for the world.

You can be disiplined, but still enjoy drinking as long as it’s in moderation. You’re only young once.[/quote]

I’m young twice…am i weird?

yes. its bad

it raises fat storage possibilities and increases estrogen…

hence guys who drink massive amounts of beer and other alcohol having “beer bellies” and other man boobs and whatnot

Oh, no. Not at all.

You’re super!!

I have been drinking a lot since i turned 21(i turned 22 last dec). I am the biggest, strongest and leanest I have ever been. It just depends on the person I guess? My nutrition prof said that you store fat much more easily after even one drink, but I haven’t been having any problems with it…

Nah I’m more the guys having a cocktail or 10 and leaning up against the bar thinking I’m so drunk I’m gonna get all the chicks (doesn’t work- except on the fugly ones). I know that my Saturday evenings hold me back to some extent in the gym but quite simply I wouldn’t trade them for any amount of muscle and strength.

I’m wondering about a beer over dinner on tuesday after squats. Is this a 5% difference in recovery or a 20% difference…

Anyone know anything? (other than fat storage which has been covered)

So, how many units of alcohol to significantly affect: protein synthesis, test/est levels and muscle gycogen uptake?

I feel like this could have been a one post, one word answer reply and we could be done with it.

and the answer wasn’t is it worth it, it was is it counterproductive?

Yes.

If it is worth it is a personal choice. But it will slow progress no question, for quite a few reasons.

I’ve started a new thread over in the Nutrition forum if anyone has any solid knowledge on my questions (which are very different to the OP here).

And I feel like the above statement is full of shit.

Is it counterproductive? I have never felt like it was, I have hit all of my goals and weights over the years.

A better answer might have been how do you know that it slows down progress no question?.. just because studies on untrained individuals indicated such?

Have any studies been done on people that have great diets/supplements/exercise programs?

Okay kids, how about this one: of course you’ll get better results if you quit drinking. The less the better. You already knew that. On the other hand, this is just one of countless variables that determine your success at reaching your athletic/bodybuilding goals.

So the question is, are you satisfied with the progress you are making and the rate at which that progress is occurring? If so, why would you need to change your behavior? If not, then you need to start tweaking variables to see what works better.

But again, you already knew that.

Your post is too mature, well thought out, and absolutely true. It made me uncomfortable.

Please don’t post shit like this again. Thank you.

er, what I meant to say is - what, no strawberry?

Alcoholic protein shakes sound delicious. Like baileys or some shit in a chocolate protein shake.

For the lean drunk.

Great Idea.
