So Ive been dieting for the past couple weeks and its been going pretty well. Currently I am doing CT’s Superhero program (givin it a shot) along with carb cycling. Currently I weigh about 220. I was around 230 when I started the program a couple weeks ago, but dieted down prior from 245 just cleaning up my diet and adding some cardio.
Although the diet is goin well, I found my social life getting pretty boring as I do not go out as often. Im 22, single, and kinda hate sitting at home playing Madden on my Friday and Saturday nights while all my friends are out partying, gettin chicks, and gettin down business…Dont get me wrong my diet and workouts are extremely important to me, but at the same time I want to have fun once in a while.
I limited myself to going out once every 2 weeks if that, but always feel guilty when I come home after a couple bacardi and diet cokes (I heard that was the lowest calories). I know regardless of how low the calories are they are still all empty calories.
My question to you is, if one wants a couple of drinks, which is the best to have? I apologize if this thread has been started a million times (I know how everyone hates answering the same questions over and over.Eeven though my post count is low Ive been lurking and reading on here since 2005) but nothing useful has turned up in the search engine and I do not trust the clowns at bodybuilding.com or any of those BS “fitness” websites. Thanks guys
Hey man, Staying Lean and getting bigger is really important to me but so is my social life ;-). I normally go out on weekends with my friends and GF and go to clubs regularly. I just drink Vodka and water and ice. I’l never have more than 2 or 3 unless I just get foolish and am having a guys night or something.
The thing with Alcohol tho is that your body makes it a priority to burn those calories first. So if you have a couple drinks don’t go eating anything heavy or you will really sabotage your fat loss.
^ fair point ^ if you want have a few drinks occasionally dont compound the negatives by eating shit too. I always drive so i can leave when i want & know i wont have too many drinks. That being said, i have a missus, i hate dance music, i hate crowds & i hate drunks + i spent 3 years bouncing, only seeing the ugly side of it all. there was a great analogy on here (by CT i think) about cheating - if you get a flat tyre, do you slash your other 3 tyres too?
I have it in my mind that if I am going to drink Im not gonna go for the diner or wherever my buddies go after. The only thing Id probably do is down a shake when I got home before bed. Believe me, I feel guilty enough having a couple drinks as it is, my diet right now is real important, but I dont want to become a hermit either. Eating shit after I drank for the past couple years is what caused me to blow up to 245…granted I got a lot stronger, but Id like to look better lol When I was 18 I dieted down to 199 from about 215, after my freshman year of college I left weighing about 240
Just go out and have fun, I drink 2-3 times a week just work that extra bit harder in the gym. Life’s too short to constantly worry about being lean. Once a week should be fine. When it starts hitting beach season cut down the drink.
I don’t know why rum and (diet) coke would be the best. Rum is made from sugar. They’re all made from crap I don’t eat on a daily bases (wheat, corn, rice or other cereal grain), but drinking sugar-alcohol strikes me as not the top #1 choice.
Red wine is the easy winner for a drink or two (I know the prices can be super-inflated at a bar/club, and you may get shit). At least it’s got some positives, and is made with relatively minimal processing (avoid sulfates if possible), and from a fruit rather than a cereal grain or sugar.
Other than that, I’d stick to Vodka and lime if your trying to get the most intoxication matched to the fewest calories.

So just order diet soda at the bar. Where’s the problem in this scenario?
Unfortunately I don’t have much game without a drink or two to loosen me up lol…believe me I’ve had my nights where I stuck to diet cokes or waters, but I feel kinda awkward…I see where ur comin from and it may sound like an excuse to have a few, but if I’m not gna drink I’d rather skip the bar scene and stay home 1. Cuz of the awkwardness and 2. Because I have asshole friends (guys and girls) who make a huge deal about me not havin at least one. So yeah, if I’m not gna have a couple drinks I’d rather not go, which in my OP said I don’t wanna be like a hermit…I guess vodka and club would be the smartest choice that does the least damage to the diet?

Your life would be easier if you became the alpha and stopped caring if your “friends” made fun of you for not drinking.

Right on the money. The old saying is “You are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with.”
So if you are spending the most time with people who make fun of you for not having a drink, maybe its time to either step up like BONEZ said, or find new friends.
These people, do they look like you want to look? Do they achieve milestones in their training that you want to achieve?
People like to make fun of things that arent normal. Unfortunately, look at society today and what is considered normal. No thanks, Id rather do my own thing.
1.) Volunteer to be the DD. And get a shirt that has “DESIGNATED DRIVER” printed up on it. You can usually get free diet sodas from the bar, and it makes a good icebreaker if any women catch your eye.
2.) If you feel like you need to appear to be drinking to have fun, just get a tonic water with a slice of lime. Looks like booze, and is tasty also.
3.) If you want to drink, whiskey/scotch/bourbon on the rocks. It’s a carb free drink, and you’ll sip it, instead of being tempted to chug. Plus it’s a manly drink and kind of fun to learn about.
Hope that helps. Personally, I think having some time out to relax is actually a health benefit - certainly better than sitting on your ass playing madden - but you need to find what works for you.
Just order your drinks straight with ice and either a lemon or a lime. I usually go with tequila and lime on the rocks. Keeps soda out of the equation entirely, lowers the calories, and helps you to spend less money at the bar.

Yea sure it might feel awkward talking to girls when you’re sober, but if you can get past that awkwardness and just let yourself go (while you’re sober) and not worry about looking like an idiot occasionally, that skill will go a long way.

I get very severe heartburn when I drink (aka gastro-esophageal reflux disease or GERD), for which i take a proton pump inhibitor (osemprazole). Alcohol is one of the primary precipitants of GERD in young people. If you’re too shit to tell your friends you don’t want to drink, make up a medical excuse, such as this one.
For the record, i’m on anti-biotics doesnt work, since metronidazole is the only anti-biotic in which you cannot consume alcohol with.
If you really wish to BS your friends, tell them you’re on methotrexate for some condition, such as psoriasis or juvenile rheumatoid (Still’s disease). ;p

You realize tonic water has TON of sugar, right?
You’re right, I meant to say club soda. Thanks for catching that.
