Iron in the Blood

Monster clean & press. That’s really cool that you were able to overcome the initial no-go.

I seriously recommend trying the weight with smaller plates when your blocked. Seeing the smaller weights makes the bar look approachable. And once you’ve proven to yourself you could do it you can graduate to using the bigger plates. - I just realized I’m talking about 5 lbs and 2.5 lbs plates -how hardcore of me lol. But the same can be applied to benching or any other move.

I TOTALLY AGREE! When I pulled 341 at my powerlifting meet… it looked like about 195. There were 100 lb plates on each side… but they were SO SKINNY… the honestly could have been 10 kg plates for all I knew… anyway, 341 didn’t even begin to look intimidating… totally doable… and it FLEW UP! It was awesome! Definitely recommend tricking yourself into thinking it’s less weight! =D

Nice progress nlmain! =D Looks like everything is going up up up!

I haven’t been buried in the first snow storm of the year, but I’ve been fighting a flu bug for the past couple of days: fever, coughing, sore ithcy throught, body aches. So I’m skipping the gym until I kick this off but reading about your workouts and keeping myself in good company. This thing started Monday night- I’m guessing this weekend I should be up at it again. Hopefully this forced rest will generate some great results.

I love the 90 lb clean and press.
Hope you get better.

the hot blonde isnt lying. IT FLEW UP.

Get well soon!

Hot Blonde Pulls 341!!! That’s great video, right there.

Got up this morning feeling not too bad but ran out of energy really quickly. Seems like I’m fighting something a little different than my usual colds.
got a few things done today:
hung my x-mas decorations
bought a couple of Dr.Seuss for my neice online as her x-mas gift
wrote, stamped and sealed about 25 x-mas cards for family and friends

and now I need a nap.

Good news: I won a trip to Mexico (a company draw amongst those who reached target) and my name came out of that hat. 4 nights at a 5 star resort. Man I am salivating just thinking about all that sun.

and with that nice thought I am off to dreamland thinking of pinacolada’s. Napping at 3pm makes me feel old and week…agrh.

OMG nice prize - that’s so awesome!

90lb clean and press…wha…? That’s a lot!

bar plus a bunch of little 5 lbs and 2.5 plates to screw with my head. - Couldn’t really do any reps with the press but happy that I got it up though. Now if I can push myself to 95 lbs I would actually be using the 25lbs plates - that would look so hardcore! I bet you I would need to do quite a few reps with the little plates just to convince my brain that I’m doing it.

seriously with the clean and press (and many other moves) form is key for added weight. Really drop down low when cleaning so that you are using your legs to move the bar up not just your back and arms. Sit back (as though squating) for stability.

N, that was a GREAT video. It just really speaks to me personally to see small women lift a ton of weight in competition like that.

True enough. I’ve push-pressed 99lbs but no way am I even close to that with a military press. Are you doing a push press or jerk, or a strict overhead press?

That’s how I do it except with a lot less weight.

Update:

Was sick last week with something nasty - constantly sleepy, fever, body aches.

Better now except that I had my H1N1 shot on Monday and that has put my left arm totally unusable since - I can hardly move it and it’s still painfull today - stupid crap. Honestly I wasn’t going to get it done but my brother just had a baby girl two months ago and I didn’t want to be a risk for her. Now with my arm this sore I can’t help but wonder what kind of shit I accepted to inject. Hell the deed’s done. I’ll probably do a leg day tommorow just to get my butt back in the gym.

take it easy there… hope you get back to 100% real quick!

Definitely do a leg day. But I hope your arm is better already!

Made my way to the gym but felt as weak as a worm.

BB bicep curl 50lbs - same as last time
1 x 8
2 x 6

Squat
95lbs
3 x 8 - went for form rather then weight since I didn’t feel to great.

leg press
205lbs
3 x 8 - same as last time

calf raises
135lbs - same as last time
3 x 8

leg extensions - same as last time
75 lbs
3 x 8

25 mins of easy treadmill cardio - 3 mph easy.

was yawning through it all, eyes glazing over. Hopefully I will shake this off soon.

anyways they can’t all be great days.

I do this too when I’m feeling weak. Sometimes I’ll persuade myself to throw more weight on the bar despite feeling crappy.
anyways they can’t all be great days.

N
Nope, they can’t. But good on you for showing up. I hope you feel 100% very soon.

I was a little worried that my forced rest of practically 2 weeks would have negative effects on my numbers but it turns out that I had a good one at the gym this evening.

Bench
100 lbs - yeah! triple digit numbers - Merry X-Mas to me. Added 5 lbs from last time
2 x 8
1 x 5
95 lbs
1 x 5

Lunge with BB
60 lbs
3 x 10 - added reps

seated machine row
70 lbs - added 10 lbs from last time
4 x 5

Military shoulder press
25 lbs
3 x 10 - added reps

superset with biceo curls
3 x 5 - same as last time.

20 mins of 3 mph treadmill for calming.

postworkout: protein bar

supper: onion, spinach and parmesean cheese omelet with 4 whole eggs - yum:)

plus it’s Charlie Browns x-mas tonight  got to be happy for the little things.
