Iron in the Blood

Good idea Kimba - I’ll check my gym out for them - if not I’ll go shop around and find a youtube vid to show me how to do them.

my neck and traps are pretty sore this morning, I’m guessing I’m holding the bar to high on my back during good mornings and squats… I’ll have to check that out.

my guess is that its the c&ps that you did!

if by c&ps you mean dips mom-in-MD you might be right. I haven’t been so tight in the neck for a long time and it was the first time that I was attacking the dips like that. I even skipped the gym tonight in order to prevent a total neck lockout. Hopefully tommorow should be better. Anybody read an article saying wine was a good muscle relaxant?? - lol

no I meant the cleans and presses!

I like the clean & presses. I think I’ll try these. There’s another forumer (DebraD) who can do a bodyweight C&J; I don’t know if that’s even possible for mere mortals, but I’m curious to see how we do.

I bet the sore neck and traps is because of the clean and presses, as well. but, dunno how high the bar is on your neck, either.

Care to expand on that Ms. Bear?

Traps I would say for sure are cleans at any rate. I did power cleans tonight and my traps are barking at me. I also get small bruises on my breast bone just below my neck sometimes where the bar hits it. I’m not a qualified O lifter because I’m too spastic. Also, watch your teeth.

I’ll admit that i have the audacity to assume.

you meant the wtf?

not disbelief, thats for sure.

more like, “oh my golly gee whiz thats so neato that deb can do bodyweight clean and jerks. shucks, im even a little jealous!”

better?

lol

Okay, here’s what I was looking for. Did you mean a sarcastic tongue in cheek ‘wow, that’s so cool, but really who gives a crap, yay for her?’ or did you mean ‘seriously that is cool’? I have to admit, when I see neato in a sentence, I assume the former.

first fight on my log - yeah! in the mud ring - lol.

As for the clean and jerk and lifting heavy a lot of it has to do with technic. Bringing your legs down low enough for the press and then using those legs to push that bar over your head (rather than pulling and pushing only with shoulders and arms) - sounds easy doesn’t it? (enter sarcastiic sound here) My PR was 95 lbs I beleive a few years ago.

Again having a good gym where you can throw those weights around makes a huge difference. I need to be extra careful in my gym - there’s always some idiot who’ll pass right behind me to get to somewhere. When I see someone handling heavy I always give them some room out of respect. Unfortunatly I don’t see others at my gym doing that very often.

neck an trap update this morning: still very tight but better and moving. I’m thinking of hitting the gym for a legs day tonight and keep the weight of the back.

cheers

they make you feel super strong plus they are a full body movement - a few of those in a row and your hitting many major muscle groups. The issue for me is getting those hips low during the clean. If you watch a couple vids of good clean and presses you’ll see they practically front squat the bar and “explode” into the press…

lol- too much wine, here I thought you were having a bad case of typo dyslexia - I get those often

They do make you feel pretty powerful don’t they. I can clean my body weight but I’m pretty certain I can’t press it. I did sets of push press last night at 95lbs. I find it a bit unnerving because people will pass very close to you and the area is small.

There are a variety of clean movements. The only one I typically do is the power clean. I pull it from the floor straight up to my shoulders. I never really could do a regular clean. I fall on my ass at the bottom (front squat). I have a video on youtube.

Tonight’s workout was good but rather than feeling euphoric once I was done, I was feeling tired with a bit of a headache. I think the shorter daylight hours are really screwing with my energy.

BB bicep curl 50 lbs - increased weight
1 x6 - decreased reps, added 1 set
3 x 5

lever leg extension 70 lbs - added weight
3 x 8

squats 95 lbs
3 x 8 - added reps
115 lbs - added weight
2 x 5
95 lbs 1 x 12 - added reps

leg press 185 lbs - added weight
3 x 8

calf raises 115 lbs (in cage, on step)- added weight
1 x 10
2 x 8

grip work:
plate flip 5 lbs
1 x 25 each hand
10 lbs 2 x 12 each hand
powerholds 40 lbs DB in each hand
2 x 30 secs.
1 x 60 secs.

cardio: 20 mins of EFX

sound track: sick puppies

supper: lean beef burger on multigrain bread smothered with ripe avocado topped with baby spinach. - tasty

If you aren’t already taking Vitamin D3, you might consider it.

Thanks for the advice but D3 is already in my daily routine at a pretty high dossage.

current supps for:
Multi Vitamin
Vitamin C
Calcium (which I take only if not enough calcium in meals)
Vitamin D3

protein shake plus pre-work on gym days.

I found you. I should have looked up all your posts before posting in your old log. Nonetheless, welcome and good luck!

Ya needs some fish oils. You might also consider some ZMA before bed as these minerals are usually deficient in women and ZMA also helps you sleep better.
