General Update

Wrapping up another 6 months of training. Not going to lie, it hasn’t been easy. I’m down to 68kg after a month of field training including a week of food and sleep deprivation at the end. I’ve been back at the barracks for a couple weeks and I am still so weak. Weak as in a weight I was squatting for 20 reps I can only squat 3 reps now. Very frustrating. The college is a difficult place to maintain fitness for someone who is used to having a lot more time to work on their physical disposition.

Moving on to the last 6months of training in a month which is very exciting, the last 6 months took nearly 40% of the class out of the running. Difficult but achievable.

I haven’t been able to catch up on anyone’s log so wishing you all well and I hope all your goals are getting conquered.

Great to hear from you Irish and glad you are still enjoying the military. No need to apologise for your absence we all know where you’ve been and it’s a pretty good excuse :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

General Update

I’ve now been in the army for 1 year. A year full of learning, meeting and loving good people and a year of seeing what people can accomplish if they are so inclined.

I personally have never pushed myself as much as I have been pushed in the past year and I can safely assume this for most of my workmates. A lot of us are fit, motivated, young people but it really does bring out the ‘grit’ that deep down, I know most people possess but may never express.

At times (perhaps most times) it has been frustrating in regards to the politics of the college and my personal fitness degradation, however I would not trade the past year for anything I have done in my entire life. It’s been challenging but fulfilling and for the 1st time in my adult life I can envision what my future may hold.

I wish all of you the very best and lament not being such an active contributor on the forum as I once was but you all encourage and motivate me to strive for the best.

Thanks guys

Wow 1 year. Sounds like you made the right decision and are really enjoying the new life. No need to apologise for not neigh on TN. This is after all not the most important thing. What does the next year hold for you Irish ?

Well the next 6 months are tied up in just finishing RMC (hopefully, nothing is guaranteed at the college) than I will hopefully get into Infantry specific training and do another 6 months in Singleton. After that potentially move to Townsville or Darwin and start my real army life.

A lot of hopefully’s and maybes and it really does come down to my performance and everyone else’s performance as to wether I get what I want. But I really want Infantry so fingers crossed!

Proud of you man!

Thanks for the update and I’m happy to hear you’re doing well!

The army life sounds different in your part of the world. We have Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force over here. I’m pretty sure they all start with basic training or boot camp. No college type stuff.

And one doesn’t have to strive to be infantry. I think that’s kind of the first step and people strive to get into more specialized positions (and my lack of understanding of what you’re doing).

And I hope you take this as it is - just information. I’m not trying to downgrade your desired spot - just sharing differences in terminology and military structures.

Good luck with the next six months!

Thanks for chiming in Irish, really happy to hear you’re at the right place.
Get the head down you’re almost at the finishing stretch

That’s standard for non commissioned ranks @Frank_C

Our boy Irish is at the Australian version of West Point.
