IPF Jr Worlds 2012

EDIT:
Update August 2012:
Have moved up to 93kg class and am a full 95kg now. Down from 98kg at nationals.
Nationals 2012 in april hit 300/200/267.5 = 767.5kg total.
Since, have hit 227.5kg in the bench and training weights up for both squat and pull. Looking to be hitting up to 320/235/290 = 845kg at worlds. Though will likely be in the 820-830kg range. Either way, will have a shot at the bench medal for sure.

Well, being world champion is still a long ways away, but I still am planning to go to IPF junior worlds in Warsaw next year. I am an 83kg lifter in Canada who has been powerlifting for about 1.5 years seriously. Current weight it around 81.5kg in the morning.

Best lifts:
Sq: 245kg (272.5kg in training (November 2011), both in a 40 super centurion. Will be working a 38 soon and will take in the hips to 36 as I have small hips.)
BP: 160kg (165kg in training - in a loose old 44 fury, planning on working a 44 SK (got 205kg to a 1bd, 180kg to chest))
DL: 227.5kg (240kg in training - need to work on DL. Always hated it so I need to focus more on it. This is also in my 40 super centurion. Might try getting something tighter but already having trouble getting to the bar)

So I train one way - Sheiko. Thus far I have ran one and half sheiko 29 cycles (broke my toe mid cycle). 2 cycles of 37, 1 cycle of CMS comp prep (intended to do 32 but misstimed it by a week lol) and am currently finishing my 4th week of CMS 1. I have followed it closely, ignoring most of the supplemental - only ever do big three, chest flyes very light, GM very light, neutral grip pullups, military press and chest supported rows. My working weights have been:
Sq - 70% in loose wraps with 335, 80% been doing 435 in suit bottoms, 85% in suit bottoms 475 and with straps up 495.
BP - set raw max to 320. Been shirting once a week. 80% 305 and 85% 325.
DL - been doing 405 fo 80% in bottoms, 385 in belt and 85% 440 in bottoms, 455 straps up.

Been doing military press about once a week. Chinups following recon rons rep scheme and doing the workout like 3 times a week. Chest flyes after every bench and GM whenever I feel like it. I do 40 mins of walking (130 heart rate) +foam rolling like 5 times a week. This cycle has been fantastic!

For week 4:
Monday:
Sq - 205x5, 235x4 belt, 275x4, loose wraps, 315x3, 335x3, tighter wraps, 355,360,365,370,375,380,385 x3

Evening: active recovery 30 mins with 4x10 pushups, 4 sets abs and recon ron

Soooo was feeling very sluggish today. Didnt put on suit bottoms cause I didn’t feel like doing 7 sets in bottoms… would be soooo tired. I did the light weights as a ~ 2% deload. This actually makes a big difference if you have ever done sheiko

Tuesday:
BP: 165x5, 195x4, 225x3 44 fury, 275x3 (wayyy off chest), 305x3 (1-2 inches off), 315x3 (about 2cm off chest), 335 3x2 (first and third set got to chest, good speed), take shirt off and do 255 2x3
Military press:really light, like 95 for 2x10, triceps felt funny
Recon ron
Chest flys 5x10 with 22.5

So, my shirt was ripping 2 weeks ago so last week no shirt work and now I have the chest panel super tightened… Like, I tightened it way too much! I used to be able to touch with 275 and now getting it to my chest hurt like a @&#@#@^&. Whatever, doubles with 335 makes me quite happy. Touch was borderline low, but w/e. I am waiting on a 44 SK, so will do my next cycle with that. I am feeling still fresh, but resting HR is a bit up so I am not sure what my next cycle will be. Depending on how last week goes I will do 29 or 37 or 30 or CMS 1. lol… Will see! Probably 37 will be the plan. Then I will take 1 week off, run CMS 3 then 32 for a competition I hope that will be hosted mid January (Viking open). Then 2 cycles and 1 peak for nationals in Calgary on april 9-14th in calgary. Then I have 20 weeks until worlds. This is a real tough amount of time for me. Depending on how my experimentation with 30, CMS 1,2,3 goes i will pick cycles. Probably 1 cycle, week off, 2 cycles and 1 peak.

Anyways, know this is a super long first post. Hope some people follow along.

Wednesday Morning:

Deadlift:
235x4
285x4
335x3
belt
355x3
bottoms
385x3
405 2x3
*straps
435 3x2

Bleh. I am starting to think that I don’t like the deadlifting in sheiko. Not sure what to do. First off, I need straps because my hands have been hurting a lot while deadlifting for some unknown reason lately. Next, I think I need to set my maxes lower and focus more on form and add in some supplemental work.

Lack of assistance/remedial work was always a draw back for me (when I used Sheiko). Remember it’s just a template so that stuff can be added as long as it doesn’t hamper recovery for the rest of the weeks main lifts; so just make sure you structure it properly.

I use straps for pulls off blocks, I’d recommend Ironmind straps if you want a good pair. Jackals Gym sells all three models.

WEdnesday afternoon did 30 mins of walking active recovery.

Wednesday evening:

Deficit deadlifts:
235x3
285x3
295x3
belt
350x2
Hands hurting like hell so I said F this and for the first time… Used straps!
350 4x3

Needless to say, I am glad I tried straps… Went from hands hurting like hell and 2 reps being hard to a 4x3 being well… very easy! Did the 4 sets in like 14 minutes! I intend to keep using straps and just doing some miscelaneous grip work.

Then as cooldown did: 4x6+6 for 95lb GM/front squat quickly as gym was closing.

Ok so Thursday:
BP:
165x5, 195x5, 225 2x5, 245 5x4
Easy as pie!
Rear delt flyes SS with chest flyes 22.5 4x12+10 or something like that

Kroc rows:
110lb 3x10 each hand… These are fun!

Friday morning:
Squat:
205x5
235x4
belt
275x4
wraps
335x3
365x3
bottoms
405x3
435 2x3
475 2x2
straps up
495x2

Felt similar to last weeks squats. Last set felt maybe a bit slower and my first set with 475 I was lazy and rounded my back at the bottom. Other than that all good.

Friday Afternoon:
~20 minutes of walking for 130 heart rate
Chinups: 8,7,6,6,5 - Slightly messed up my recon ron numbers… meh
Military press: 65x15, 85x15, 135 x3,3,5 - some guy needed the rack so I just did a harder third set and skipped the last 2 i planned on.
Face pulls: 60lb? 5x12 or something
Supersetting hammer and regular DB curls for like 2x5 each just for stretching.
Myofascial release on the old foam roller.

Nice relaxing afternoon session. Planning on doing my second round of squats tomorrow. Then saturdays deadlift on monday. Then doing a couple easy sessions next week, before getting going with another cycle the following monday!

PS thanks for chiming in GnP… I think I was mostly having trouble with hands. Gonna run another cycle with same maxes on DL and see how it moves.

Saturday Morning:
Squat:
225x4
belt
275x4
new THP knee wraps
355 5x3
Easiest squats of the cycle. These knee wraps feel weird to me. But as APT are not illegal… They will do. If you wrap them loosely they just feel like pieces of carbboard sliding over each other. Meanwhile, if you wrap them tight they seem awesome!

Bench:
165x5
195x4
2252x3
255 4x3
Sets all medium grip except 1 of the top was wide and 1 was narrow. Felt slow today. Decided to stop after four sets.

So sunday:
30 mins of active recovery

Monday:
Rack pulls:
225x5
285x3
325x3
375x3
395x3
425x2,3,3,3
Axle rows:
50lb per side for 3x10-12

So I am starting up sheiko 30 today (tuesday). Planning on running it and taking my time a bit so it takes 4weeks and 4 extra days to finish on saturday. Then the following monday I start CMS 3 then do a prep

Not doing Westerns I take it?

No not planning on it. Hoping to do the Viking Open in January, then Nationals in April. Can I ask who this is btw? I was at provincials, my name is Adam.

I’ll be following, as a recent fan/follower of Sheiko myself. I’ve also noticed my hands hurting like hell on the DL sessions. What the hell is up with that?

Maybe I’ll give in and use straps too…

Yah the high volume DL has been killing my hands. I can usually get first top set, then it hurts sooo much. So now I will use straps because I am way ‘stronger’ with them on… Anyways…
Tuesday:
Bench:
165x5
205x4
235x3
*shirt - 44 fury with tightened chest plate (too tightened lol)
295x3
315 2x3
Was just too easy so
325 3x3

Felt great. Reps were practically speed reps. Very happy. Got 2nd and 3rd reps of all sets to chest for a decent pause.

Then did some prehad stuff:
Chest flyes, rear delt flys, hammer curls and tricep extensions for like 4x8 supersetted.

Shoulda got in a 2nd round of bench but had no time. So I think I will chuck it in tomorrow with the 2nd round of squats.

Have a big burst blood vessel in my eye. Not sure what to do. I think I will just take today off and resume training tomorrow.

Ok so Thursday at noon:
Squat:
205x5
235x4
belt
285x4
wraps
345x3
375x3
bottoms
415x3
445 4x3

Mostly pretty solid with good speed. Last rep of second set at 445 I totally lost my balance so I rounded my back and froze at the bottom, but muscled it up. Back feels a little bit funny now an hour later. Will see how I feel tonight. I need to not get lazy! This has happened once before and I don’t like it! I think I will start filming myself in order to really be able to evaluate my form.

I PM’ed you.

Yah I got your message. Glad you are following along here! Hope to see you at a meet soon.

Ok so thursday PM:
Close grips (ring finger on inner ring of ivanko bar)
165x5
195x5
230 5x5
Solid work. Good speed.

Squat:
205x5
*belt
275x4
*wraps
365 4x3
*ditch wraps
315x4

Sigh… Miss my convicts :*{

Good in all. Will be sore tomorrow!

PS Popped blood vessel in eye isn’t growing so I am good to go!

So friday:
Nice little conditioning workout in sub 30minutes or so:

Supersetted:
DB bench: 65lb 4x15
Leg press: 300lb ish 4x15
Cable rowing: 130lb 4x15
Military press: 45lb 4x15
Lunges: 45lb 4x10 per leg
Chinups: 4x5
Standing EZ bar curls: 70lb 4x8

Then did a bit of stretching and prehab because my right elbow feels a touch sore… probably from double squat day.

This evening I am helping out my gf with some DL so I will prob do some stretching and foam rolling… Maybe even might exert myself and do some incline walking…lol

Life got busy so didn’t get in until today (sunday):

I did all of this in 1hr even… Had to super set the DL and bench:

DL:
245x4, 295x4, 345 2x3
belt
405x3
straps - hands hurt like hell
405 4x3

Bench:
165x5,195x5,230 2x4, 245 2x3, 260 2x2, 280 2x1, 260 2x2, 245 2x3, 230 2x4, 205x8, 165x12
All paused.

Good session. DL felt good… A bit slow off the floor but lockout was doing good. Bench was all fast. No doubt had a paused triple at 280.

THen in the evening:
Trap bar deadlifts with the bar on 2 foam pads so the grips were 3 inches below knee cap… bit low:
240x4
290x4
340 2x3
straps
390x3
belt
410 4x3
Not bad. Getting annoyed with the dependence on straps.

Then did some axel dimmel deadlifts… Not any strain other than forearms… like 135 for 5x15 or so.
