Inverted Plank

The general consensus these days seems to be that the role of the core is to provide stability. Front and side planks seem to be popular and effective ways of training in this way.

I was wondering what people think of inverted planks like the one pictured here. I’m especially interested because I’ve hurt my lower back several times because I was unable to maintain a neutral spine on heavy squats and deadlifts. I tried a few sets of these today and they felt very good. Opinions?

If you like 'em, do em. If they don’t seem to be doing anything to strengthen or at least feel like they are, stop. What do you have to lose?

I have a herniated disc as well, it was really bad, but now I never have any pain (deadlifting up to 430lbs so far at 180).

Planks definitely are one of the main things I attribute my recovery too.

Sortve recently, I added weighted front planks. Best hold so far is 225lbs on my back for 1 minute.

Inverted it seems like it might be kindve awkward to stop/dump the weight, so be careful.

And I wouldn’t recommend it if you still have any pain. Good luck.
