Interval training-Berardi, Joel?

Quick question about interval training. In Don Alessi’s meltdown training article he mentions you can use a rowing machine or even jumprope as a form of interval training. John and Joel, what are your opinions as far as using a jumprope???

I mentioned this on the HIIT thread. Although it’s not as demanding as sprinting, you can get an effective workout with one (provided that you have some skill). In my opinion, it’s a good for “once in a while” use to add some variety to your cardio workouts, but I certainly wouldn’t make it my primary mode of interval training.

I love jump rope training. It trains the upper and lower body together. It improves footwork and concentration. You also have an endless amount of variety that you can do with jump rope. You can do longer steady work, interval work, fartlek training, etc. An all out jump rope interval is definately as demanding as running, rowing, biking, etc. The jump rope should be an item in everyone’s training arsenal.

Coach Davies’ Renegade Rope Training is pretty intense. Really good workout.
